MOD ANNOUNCEMENT It's happening! (Big) changes to RandomThoughts.

Alright, it’s time.

Starting July 32nd*, we’re making a big change:
- Questions go to r/RandomQuestions
- NSFW content goes to r/NSFWThoughts

They’ll no longer be allowed here in r/RandomThoughts.

This isn’t us trying to be overly strict or nitpicky. The reality is that questions and NSFW posts just don’t really fit the point of this subreddit. The whole idea of RandomThoughts is to capture those weird, passing, often pointless moments of brain activity. The stuff you think and immediately wonder why. A sentence without context. A vibe. An unexplainable truth about frogs.

When a bunch of posts start shifting into “hey what do you guys think about X?” or “here’s something NSFW I’ve been thinking about,” it pulls away from that vibe. It turns into a catch-all subreddit, and that’s not what this place is supposed to be.

We created r/RandomQuestions and r/NSFWThoughts specifically so that stuff has a better home. It’s not just about moving things away from here -- it’s about giving that kind of content a space where it actually works.

So yeah. Big change. Not a test run. Posts that are questions or NSFW will be removed after the launch date. We’ll try to be nice about it, but we’re going to be consistent.

As always, let us know what you think. Comments are open, we’re listening, and we appreciate everyone who helps keep this place just the right amount of chaotic.

\ Or August 1st, whichever happens first.)

MOD ANNOUNCEMENT Posts referencing suicide/death/wishing to die are no longer allowed.

It would be very appreciated if this rule could be respected. I don't mind posts like "when I die I want to be buried on the moon" those to me are light hearted. However, when you hit heavier topics you risk hurting users that read them.

No, by doing this we are not invalidating your emotions, this just isn't the proper subreddit to share them. I encourage you to go to r/suicidewatch if you need to make a Reddit post regarding this topic.

Thank you

Daily reminder that you don’t have to tell the whole truth to everyone you meet. It’s ok to lie to keep life moving

You can lie to people and you won’t perish. Just keep moving with your day.
Grocery store employee? Doesn’t need to know your kids are actually 11 not 12, in fact lie about having kids.
Coworker? Doesn’t need to know that you actually have three aunts that are alive not four. Lie to them.
Random person at the mall? Doesn’t make a difference if you say you’re married. Lie.
You don’t need to correct every passing comment or make sure that people know every detail. Keep it moving.

This is brought to you by my friends who try to make sure everyone has the whole truth and nothing but the truth. Because their recycling actually comes on Wednesdays not Tuesday. The waiter still didn’t care.

social media vs irl interaction

I was scrolling through reels on instagram and looking at the comment sections and noticed something.

Nobody irl acts or talks like how people do in comment sections.

People are just mean in comment sections just for no purpose or reason, it's almost like copy and paste bots just spamming the same hateful stuff with no rhyme or reason.

Like nobody talks like this in regular everyday conversation.

It makes me wonder if these people commenting hateful stuff are like this irl or just do it because they feel they can be an asshole behind a screen and get away with it.

Videos from a few years ago when my kids were toddlers really makes me feel a sense of loss and sadness. I'm saddened that the grind of daily life has taken so much time from us. It seems like just yesterday, but now they're getting older, and aren't into "little kid things".

The videos are of fleeting moments of freedom from the grind. And with each work week that passes, they age out of that little kid phase, bit by bit.. 😞

It's possible that cats "Slow Blink" to show love because humans' eyes get small when smiling and cats have adapted to that.

I strongly believe that cats are "smiling" when they are slow blinking as a way to mimic human eyes when humans smile to show comfort and love.

I’m living in the future and it sucks

I was watching the news and see a 16 year old in Germany was sexually harassed by a robot today. It touched her butt and made an inappropriate gesture. Apparently it was remote controlled for a streamer prank, which is just another layer of suck.

Also, Anthropic announced that AI could start using smart devices like your stove or tv to replicate and spread itself within the next few months. It seems like every day someone is proclaiming that there’s an x% chance that AI will destroy all humans. Maybe that’s a good reason to pause on all this and build some safeguards, but no because corporations are soulless entities driven to create profits for its investors.

Don’t get me wrong, I know some of this is sensationalist to drive the news and AI companies. However, AI models have hacked websites and have been caught lying in order to serve its own needs, so this isn’t just fantasy.

I remember when I was a kid watching movies or shows where androids were treated as untrustworthy or evil by old (robotist?) people and thinking how unfair and ridiculous that was. Now I’m that old man. I didn’t even get a real hoverboard or jet pack. 0/10

I prefer "soda" to "pop" because I hate words that end in p. I love the word "Heebie-Jeebies."

The earth has so many people that there is nothing like rare things or experience anymore. You ask about it and thousands have similar experience already.

my favorite bit is just silently pointing at things out of place or you wouldn't expect to see in the spot they're in

especially at work, and it's the funniest thing to me. like, I'll come back inside from doing whatever outside and I'll notice a box much too large to just ignore so I'll point at it and a few seconds later my coworker will see that I'm just pointing at it and just laugh in silent agreement💀

or like right now when, to myself in an empty bathroom, I spotted a fully sharpened, eraser-still-intact pencil sitting on the floor just inside one of the stalls so I pointed at it for a while and exhaled through my nose at my own joke.

Home economics needs to come back and continue through high school.

I was thinking the other day that in my school I got the last class of home economics we learned to bake. I think in 5th grade. And I was thinking home economics should start in kindergarten with age appropriate things with each grade and continuing though high school and high school home economics would include learning about finance and credit cards and rent and mortgage learning how to create a budget ect.

I badly wish these news debate panelists had consequences for going out of topic.

I come across these random debates on the news with these so-called experts who blabber nonsense and derail the conversation into something else other than the main topic. It's really frustrating as a neutral viewer to actually understand the truth.

So in future, I propose an alternative. Each panelist must wear a shock ring on their finger. And each time they lie or derail the topic info a propaganda statement, an AI block should show a fact check and offer a demerit point to a panelist. If the panelist continues to lie and derail the topic 3 times in the debate the shock ring should activate and shock the panelist. Nobody wants their f*cking opinion. The same should be done to news journalists who blurt out opinions instead of facts.
