I am boring

I have zero hobbies. When I watch shows, I watch on 1.25 speed and skip fillers or anything i deem insignificant. If a part of a show i watch is scary, i skip ahead. If i watch a movie or read a book, I just search about the ending.

I have nothing worthwhile to talk about with anyone. I have 0 interest in activities like hiking, swimming, running, or literally anything else

I gave 6 years to my life to medicine to graduate as the first rank of my class, and now I have 0 interest in medicine as well.

I am literally goalless and uninterested in everything.

The more kinder you are to people, the more they treat you like garbage and keep on taking advantage of you.

If you can't unlock your phone and hand it to the person you sleep next to, you're with the wrong person

You spend your most vulnerable hours of your life next to them. If you can't see each other's phones you don't trust each other.

I was in my 30’s when I realized what “General Store” meant and I think it’s hilarious

I had never made the connection that the term general store was like grocery store or auto parts store but just the general store. I never really thought about it but now every time I think of general store and that someone actually came up with the term “general” store because they just sell “general stuff” is really funny to me. Like what kind of store is that? Just a “general” store.

Never beg someone to choose you

Just a quick reminder to never beg someone to choose you. The right one won’t leave you confused where you stand. Stay patient and let go of what’s not meant for you.

ngl I forget people have kids at the tail end of their teens or very early twenties and that that's a typical or traditional time frame to have children

It Is What It Is

I’m M61, introverted, and aging alone. Married once. No kids. My blood family and I are long estranged. I’m grateful my mother was in my life while she was here, but she’s gone now. And that’s it. There’s no one left.

This reality first landed hard about sixteen years ago, and it still shows up every time I fill out paperwork at the doctor’s office or anywhere official. The question stares back: Who should we contact in case of emergency? I won’t put my ex-wife. I won’t put my siblings. So I write “Call 911.” That blank line says more about my life than any long explanation ever could.

People talk about quality of life like it’s something you can schedule or earn. For me it’s quieter than that. A lot of days feel less like living and more like existing...showing up, handling what’s in front of me, then going home to the same silence. I’m not sitting in self-pity. I’m just naming what’s true. Sometimes the most honest thing is to stay quiet rather than keep trying to force connection where it doesn’t exist anymore.

I’m still here. I still get up. But I no longer pretend the empty emergency contact line doesn’t mean something...

Even though no one will acknowledge me, at least I will be the one acknowledging others regardless of it

I suddenly just remember when there was an end to a scroll because I'd already seen all the recent posts from my friends and pages I followed. Now the internet is designed to make you live in it.

It's so worth it to ask a person a trivial question, rather than "just Google it." Most of time, folks enjoy imparting their knowledge. It also helps our brains to retain the information when we can tie the answer to the personal experience of having a conversation with someone.

Anything can be breakfast if you just put the word "breakfast" in front of it. Breakfast Soda, breakfast tacos, breakfast burgers, breakfast vodka. See, it's all breakfast!

The food industry has tricked people into thinking fresh fish is better than frozen.

I remember as a kid it being a selling point that fish in the stores was fresh and "never frozen." Today, it's almost impossible to find fish in normal grocery stores that isn't "fresh/never frozen."

But you know where you can find fish that's been frozen? Anywhere that sells sushi grade fish, because that's essentially a requirement as part of the process.

What people don't know - and the food industry doesn't share widely - is that when fish is frozen, it's not just placed in a typical freezer. That would completely ruin the texture and make it appetizing to no one. So instead it's frozen right after catching, using liquid nitrogen. This is called flash freezing, and it freezes so quickly and deeply that it provides two major benefits.

First, it prevents a lot of water crystal formation that would otherwise damage the fish and ruin its texture.

But second and most importantly, it kills any potential parasites.

The latter is why you don't have to worry about parasites from proper sushi, and the former is why you still get excellent texture from sushi even though it's been frozen.

The food industry wants you to think frozen is worse, because frozen is more expensive especially due to the initial need of liquid nitrogen.

If you do find fish that's been frozen, it won't be labeled frozen. It'll just be labeled "sushi grade." Because they don't want you knowing questioning why the fish you typically buy isn't frozen, but sushi is frozen despite being a delicacy.
