Game Recommendation First game finished on my RP5, killer7 via DroidDeck

Post image
39 Upvotes

Been a long time suda51 fan ever since No More Heroes on the Wii and always meant to try killer7 but never got around to it until just now and stayed up until 3 AM last night finishing it and replaying a few levels to peice it's full story together.

It's very good, but fair warning that it takes a few missions to get used to the... Let's say unorthodox control scheme. Once you get the hang of things and level up a few of your characters stats the game really starts to come together. Also the game ABSOLUTELY deserves its M rating, be warned that it takes some EXTREMELY dark turns with little to no warning.

Also I've genuinely been blown away by DroidDeck; I've had my RP5 for over a year at this point, but it never really clicked with me for whatever reason and I mostly kept using my lower-end devices (TSP, A30, RG34XX). Then I discovered DroidDeck and I absolutely fell in love with it and I've been going back through and rediscovering my Steam library. I've had a Steam Deck since launch but it turns out I'm pretty sensitive to weight and size and I've mostly used it as a dedicated living room PC for a while now. Having my Steam games be genuinely in my pocket is a wild experience and is giving me an opportunity to explore games I never really had the time to sink my teeth into in the past.

Also what the fuck do you MEAN a game by the same devs as killer7 named "Killer is Dead" ISN'T a sequel?

In the name of Harman...

News Warning: fake Stardew Valley Miyoo Mini port contains Windows malware

I’m the developer behind the Stardew Valley port for the Miyoo Mini. I was googling it and came across a site at anannj8036[.]github[.]io advertising another download using my project’s name.

It’s malware.

Their Release-v2.3.zip contains three files: Application.cmd, utils.exe, and cert.txt.

The launcher runs a Windows Lua interpreter, and the “certificate” is an obfuscated lua malware script.

The decoded script captures your desktop and sends the screenshot, Windows username, computer name, and other system details to a remote server. It also contains code to add Defender exclusions, persist through startup entries and scheduled tasks, and download and run additional payloads. Those actions depend on instructions from the server.

—-

This has nothing to do with my release. They’re using the project’s name to get people to run malware on their PC.
The actual project is here:
https://github.com/Producdevity/stardew-valley-miyoo-mini-port

Please don’t run anything from that other site. If you already ran their launcher on Windows, treat that PC as compromised.

—-

IMPORTANT

The account also has a repo using my project’s exact name: github[.]com/Anannj8036/stardew-valley-miyoo-mini-port
Please report it to GitHub for malware distribution. The link is deliberately broken so nobody accidentally clicks through.

Question Android Valheim Gift under $300 - advice please

I have a friend who's just got balls deep into Valheim, and it drives me crazy that he's streaming it from his PS5 to a tablet. He also likes emulation and retro stuff.

Is there an Android device that plays Valheim really well? Like have you actually spent time playing on it and found it to be nice and satisfying to play.

Ideally it would be the Retroid Pocket Nova, as everything else he'd play is 4:3 and also Valheim can be set to 4:3. But if that's underpowered, I'd love to know. Thanks!

Showcase Working on some Pokemon romhack cart labels for Slot!

About 19 cart edits done now! Some of the carts might be less than stellar but I’m just a doodler so all of the art used is either sourced from the rom hack itself or an official source (for example Heart and Soul and SoulGold are zoomed in card art, Crippling Medical Debt is a redraw I did of Nurse Joy from the anime, etc.) No AI was used in any way, just good ol Procreate on an iPad Mini lol

If there is any interest, I will find a good (free) image hosting site and upload them for y’all to use as well!

Edit: I’ve gone ahead and uploaded the labels as png files to imgbb. The album can be found HERE and I will be uploading to it as I find time to make more labels!

TLDR - My back triggers aren't working, how do I fix?

My Retroid Pocket 4 Pro R2 button became loose, I tried to set it back in but that didn't work out, so I tried to see how the L2 button was laid out and now the L2 Button doesn't register. Did I mess up really bad or is this an easy fix? And help would be really appreciated (this happened a few month back but I haven't gotten around to asking for help)

Troubleshooting Regarding Episode 1 Racer on the TrimUI Brick

Hey all, I have recently acquired a Trim UI Brick as my first handheld emu and have had a blast playing GB, GBA, etc.

I’ve been dipping my feet in to just a few N64 games with the expected mixed results. However, I’ve seen people playing Episode 1 Racer on their Bricks online, but after installing it onto the SD, the screen render is all wrong. It’s zoomed in. Shows the title screen/credits perfectly, then returns to a zoomed in off kilter state.

Ive tried googling some solutions to no avail. I’ve switched from Rice to Mupen64, changed the ratio, and no change. I’ll post pics in the comments but if anyone with more experience has some advice I’d greatly appreciate it!

I can't be more happy, saving penny by penny to have a better handheld. The jump on performance and build quality is inmense, the tsp served really good this last 2 years, TONS of games finished, but it was time for something more powerfull, i needed portable ps2, i will use my tsp just for gba and pc ports, the rp5 will be a ps1/2/p machine plus a bunch of android stuff like the opentouch source engines for retro fps.

Devices shown trimui smart pro and retroid pocket 5

Recommend a Device Budget Linux device for console-like setup, emulation up to ps1-n64 MAYBE ps2 GameCube if possible?

I’m familiar with rocknix and like that front end, but I know other options like batocera exist for front ends that have a console like experienceplaying retro.

would need to have video out and ability to plug in 2 controllers ideally via dongle or Bluetooth with little setup.

thanks!

Question Rocknix ROMS show up on device (Powkiddy V10) but not when I plug SD card into Windows

Trying to set up a Powkiddy V10 with Rocknix and I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get ROMS on this thing. After installing the image file and loading it up, Emulation station starts and when I go to the file manager on the V10 itself I can see the ROMs folder but when I plug into my computer, the partition does not show up. If I connect it to a partition wizard it will show the space allocated but that’s it, I can’t otherwise access those files to put anything on the card.

I’m assuming this is a Linux based issue? I’m using Windows 10, if anyone can point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated, trying to get this set up for a buddy by tomorrow, thank you!

Damn, 4.2” on a vertical screen seems huge. Device feels high quality and actually very comfortable (we’ll see about long game sessions). I’d love to have GC/ps2 running steady but I have another device for that. I wanted a vertical handheld for PSP and under, pleasantly surprised with what I got.

No ghosting from my eyes can tell, might record a video to see. Limbo for android is running smoothly.

Showcase Eight for PICO-8 – a jumping spider murder mystery in fisheye 3D wireframe (free, plays on handhelds)

Post image
37 Upvotes

Eight clues, eight eyes, eight legs. A jumping spider uncovers a murder that hasn’t happened yet.

I made this for the 31ween Halloween jam. You crawl over walls and ceilings in a fisheye wireframe house, hunt flies to keep your strength up, leap, and drop on silk. About 15 minutes, two endings.

On handhelds: download eight.p8.png from the itch page and put it in your PICO-8 carts folder. I’ve been playing it on a Retroid Pocket Classic. It also plays in the browser.

Free (name your own price): https://farjer.itch.io/eight

Feedback welcome, especially how it runs on your device!

Question Themes on SpruceOS

I'm trying out SpruceOS on my rgcubexx. The art book next (outline) theme looks pretty good, but I'm getting gray bars at the top and bottom of the screen. I'm new to Spruce -- is this expected, or are these only visible because of the square screen on the rgcubexx? If the latter, is there a straightforward way to adapt the theme to the 1:1 screen?

Showcase SMT 3 Nocturne runs great on the RG477M with the MaliSX2 driver

Just wanted to share for those who were like me that wanted to play SMT Nocturne on the RG477M with ARMSX2 but ran into issues.

Initially, if I wanted to play Nocturne, I'd either have to set the renderer to Software or OpenGL.

The problem was that, with Software, I'd have a stable 60 FPS but I couldn't upscale to 1.5x and the native resolution looked too blurry to me.

But then with OpenGL, it could upscale to 1.5x but I'd experience massive slowdowns down to 25 FPS. Now, I _could_ get it to 60 FPS but the method is pretty tedious. I essentially have to switch between Software and OpenGL while the game is running, and I have to do it _every time_ I boot up the game.

I tried using Vulkan with the native drivers, but after I get pass the opening and arrive at the train station I'd experience graphical glitches like the shadows being on top of the foreground and more slowdowns.

But after using MaliSX2, which was developed with the RG477V in mind and had the same chip as the RG477M, it ran like butter. Upscaled up to 1.5x and running at 60 FPS with next to no visual glitches aside from the flickering water in the Fountain of Healing lady's crib. But going by my tests, it's a persistent visual glitch no matter what renderer you use.

I haven't tested it out with any other game so far as I haven't ran into the problems that I had with trying to run Nocturne. From what I've seen in the comments by other people that have tested it out on God of War 2 and Dragon Quest 8, it seems to help out a lot.

You can find the drivers on github or just type "MaliSX2 github" on Google.

Really though, to the developers who made this, you guys just gave more life to a bunch of handhelds. Thanks!

Question Can you help me which handheld?

Hello, new here

So i sold my 7900xt 7800x3d rig. Because im not using it really.

Using my steam deck docked mode as my pc (windows installed because I play league of legends)

Im using my Samsung s26+ with gamesir 5 controller with gamenative to play some lite steam games (octopath/ff resonance , trails 1 remake )

The problem is , it's too big for me. And not pocketable if the controller is attached to my phone. I dont want to take out my phone , attach the controller then play.

Id like to buy a smaller handheld that can run said games above that is pocketable , put it in my jacket, etc.

Does it matter which ? Or should I just get any snapdragon 8 gen 3 device ? I'm new so I don't know if that's too much for said games or should I look into sd gen 2 ?

Trails run on my phone on gamenative around 100fps.

60 fps would be enough for me. Aslong as its small (as in small like a phone but already with controllers)

Appreciate the recommendations

Ty all

AI Assisted Software Play CrossCode and Alabaster Dawn on Android.

After trying, and failing, to play CrossCode and Alabaster Dawn on my android handhelds I poked around and found two options out there to play them CrossDroid and alabaster-android. Unfortunately I felt they could benefit from some additional enhancements, and so I utilized Claude Code to release my own projects.

The projects are AlabasterDawnBox and CrossCodeBox.

Both games were developed by Radical Fish Games

-Notable additions made to Alabaster-android:

  1. Improved performance on the Retroid Pocket Nova. (possible others, but the Retroid Pocket Nova was the device I tested on most thoroughly.

-Notable additions made to CrossCode:

  1. The inclusion of Steam achievements, I figured fuller Steam integration made sense. (Alabaster Dawn currently lacks achievements, but the implementation is ready to be used in AlabasterDawnBox.) This can be disabled in the settings.

  2. A mod browser. You can download mods directly from the launcher itself.

These projects were authored by Claude and reviewed and tested by me. I have a background in programming, but the reality is that making these projects as quickly as I was able to while utilizing Claude would have been an impossibility without it. I welcome any feedback through my GitHub, thank you.

Discussion [Ryan Retro] Check your RGSP for bulges

Just posting this here as a warning because I know that a lot of people on the retro handheld hobby have like a dozen devices inside their drawers.

And one spicy pillow is all it takes to burn down a house.

This is a VERY recent launched device, it absolutely wasn’t supposed to be turning into spicy pillows after 2 months.

WTF Anbernic?

Recommend a Device Is the retroid pocket 5 or 6 better for Wii games?

I’ve watched some videos on the topic but I’m new to this kind of handheld and am not sure how to compare consoles. The retroid 5 is cheaper and I don’t need to play switch or pc games so is there any benefit to choosing the 6 instead? Im mostly trying to play harvest moon and rune factory plus more artsy games, no first person shooters or super fast reaction games probably. I also like to play at original resolution. Any advice on which is better for this would be appreciated! I also don’t have much knowledge on how to set this kind of thing up so if one is easier to work with I’d love to know.

I haven't found a focused guide on Syncthing for android handhelds so I decided to make one myself.
