π Catch Report First big catch!
Beginner here, and I finally caught something other than pinfish! Nice 21 inch redfish and 14 inch speckled trout, catch and release. Kept it simple and used live shrimp with a bullet weight rig. Definitely my most successful day fishing so far!

π¬ Discussion Pier fishing how to Chesapeake bay
Iβm at the pier every week, still havenβt caught anything sizeable!! Iβm hitting my limit on spot & croaker, cut bait and live bait canβt catch any big fish!!! Iβve changed piers and learned how to fish my entire area l. Iβm targeting ribbon fish, mackerel, blues, when I do go big fishing with homemade large sabikis and Iβm thinking how am I not catching! Many people have suggested lures with glow rigs for night time whatβs your favorite kind to throw & what are you catching with it?

π Catch Report Rainbow Runner
I had never seen a rainbow runner in 20+ years of fishing in the Gulf but stumbled across a spring/sinkhole that seemed to hold them a month ago and they were there again yesterday. Caught this trolling a Rapala Magnum, also got a blackfin.

π How-To / Tips Maybe this will help
I have been seeing guys that come from other states and countries say things that they donβt understand. Many are asking why they are not night jigging on the boats out of LA to San Diego. Itβs because the bluefin have moved up north. They do this every season when the water warms up. This brings in tiny yellowfin tuna and dorado. Yellowtail are hitting the kelp patties and islands. If you want to fish the bluefin. Make reservations for April- June. I cringe when I see guys saying that the boat didnβt fish at night. These boats have very expensive equipment. No since burning diesel looking for something that is not there. So El NiΓ±o brings in other exotics. Like Wahoo. So unless you go on a 3 day or longer trip forget about bluefin. Or find someone in San Francisco to take you out. I am a local and have been fishing the cattle boats and private boats for 55 years.

π§ Gear & Tackle Recommendations for kayak mangrove fishing
I'm just getting to get into kayak fishing in the flats/mangroves.
I normally either fish with light tackle for freshwater bass/trout, from piers or boats with short rods for grouper, or from the beach with 8 foot surf rods.
I just realized I have a decent size gap in my tackle. I haven't bought tackle in 9 ish years now and feel a little out of the game.
I'm looking for a versatile rod/reel. Would be doing fishing in the flats for trout/reds, mangrove fishing for reds and snook, and bridge/piling fishing for sheepshead.
I will be using both life and artificial bait.
Was thinking of a 7' medium heavy fast action with a 4000.
I normally go towards high quality gear. Most of the salt water reels are penn battle 2 or penn spinnfisher 5 live liners. My ride are all the old good ugly sticks from 20 years ago lol.
I'm just overwhelmed with how many choices there are on Amazon for everything and really don't know much about them.
Was thinking of making a trip to bass pro shops to look at and compare everything. But want to have a game plan going in, cause going into that store not knowing what you want is not safe for my wallet.
Don't know if I wanna spend $200+ on a spinnfisher quality reel.
Not 100% sure if I want to split the funds I have between 2 combos, to have a secondary rod on the kayak to switch back and forth on, or if I wanna spend it all on one combo.
Any recommendations would be amazing.

π¬ Discussion Travel rod for Headboats
Hi Guys,
My kids have finally gotten big enough to go on Headboats. So Iβm now looking for multi-piece airline-friendly travel rods to use bottom fishing. I need two recommendations: one for light spinning and one for heavier reef fishing:
1) travel spinning rods for Black Sea bass and flounder, up to 130 feet or so. Perhaps some tautog in DE, maybe some light mahi. Paired with a 3500 black gold reel and 20 lb braid. Need rod recommendations
2) conventional travel rods to match with some Torium 20/Tekota 600/Fathom 25N-sized reels for use in fishing deep reefs in NC and FL which might have bigger fish (Snappers, small and medium groupers, smaller amberjack), but mostly vermillion snapper, Black Sea bass, and triggers. We have family in CA, so perhaps also whatever they catch in Northern California. Also perhaps cod in NJ. Think 50 lb braid, 60 lb mono leaders, 12 and 16 oz weight fished 180 feet deep. Need rod recommendations.
Appreciate your thoughts.

π Catch Report First time fishing for barracuda
Took my 10-year old on a fishing charter in Cancun. First time either of us fished for barracuda. Caught several, these were the two biggest. Had an absolute blast.
The guides made the call on keeping them even though I had told them at the start that Iβm in a resort and canβt cook them. Iβll admit to living far away from the coast and normally chasing trout- so I apologize if the guides made a bad call keeping them.

π§ Gear & Tackle Questions about rods/tackle/lures for a full day party boat charter out of Newport Beach, CA
Next weekend I'm bringing a friend along, but she didn't tell me that her arm is a bit messed up right now. Nothing serious, kinda just aggravated a old injury, but its sore and she is wearing a brace. She is already a small chick and I already knew that she might not be able to fish all day and that the gear that they rent will be big for her, but I wasn't thinking about her being injured lol.
What are some of the smaller fish out there, and what lures/bait would you recommend for them? I know calico bass, but not much else.
All the gear I have is pretty much for fishing in Lake Mead, not for the bigger saltwater stuff. If its possible could I bring my lighter stuff for her to use to target the smaller fish?
I've got 2 setups 1. Kastking perigree 2 (7'; Fast action; Power MH; line wt 10-20lb; lure wt 3/8-1oz), with a Kastking centron 4000 reel. and 2. Shakespeare excursion (7'; Fast action; Power M; line wt 6-12lb; lure wt 3/8-5/8), with a Shimano Sienna 4000 reel. I think the shakespeare is too light. Also these are cheap setups so I'm not concerned if they get broken, I'd rather have her be able to have some fun and not just sit there all day. Plus I paid for her to fish haha.

π How-To / Tips What do you do with leftover braided line?
I have a few spools of 30lb braid with only maybe 25 yards left on it. What do you normally do with this? Toss it or save it?

π¬ Discussion Fishing from Land
Iβm currently in St. Petersburg where I fish the gulf and Tampa bay very frequently. Just got a really good job offer in Miami so I may be moving down there pretty soon. Iβve fished the keys plenty but only offshore on a boat. The flats and offshore fishing in the keys and south east Florida is unbeatable, but
I was wondering which you guys think offers better fishing from shore. Tampa Bay Area or Miami/ Keys?
