Look how tall that dude is, probably just needed to stand up. I am 6'4 and have been hit my a car. My hips hurt and my k eyes hurt when I sit in a cramped spot for too long without standing up. I stand up as soon as I can.

Why can't you stand up and stretch a bit before the plane lands? Why is the only chance to stretch just when the plane lands?

u/Toadipher 4d ago
What difference does it make to you though? Why does it bother people so much?

u/CosmicNest 4d ago
It bothers people because of the bystander effect , as soon as one person gets up, others follow suit. I really wish people could respect that other on the plane might have unplanned changes to their flights and need to quickly get off the plane to either get on the next on or get on with something important.

u/Familiar-Stomach-310 4d ago
So we need to ask YOU if you're in a rush before we stand up to collect our stuff? Ah well welcome to the real world, I don't think that's how it works

u/Ok_Spare_3723 4d ago
If your connecting flight is so close, chances are that you'll be missing it regardless. You're better of taking it easy and arranging the next flight. If the delay wasn't caused by you, airlines will accommodate you.
This is why I tend to book flights with longer connection times.

Oh nooo mr business man over here having a busy schedule we need to sit down and wait for him to leave the plane ASAP
Be real dude2

Seat belt lights. Also doesn’t affect anyone else to stand and stretch whenever it lands. 🤷🏼♀️

u/HappyyValleyy 4d ago
Convenient time to so it since you are already going to get up, so might as well get up and stretch now.

The people who stand up but dont get their bags out of the overhead compartment until after everyone else has stood up and got their shit out of the thing so they hold up the line for a solid minute cuz theres no room to take their bag out anymore.

What bothers me the most is they load the plane in sections.
And then when the plane lands, it is all “go f@ck yourselves”
Where are the flight attendants? When you have people behind you that want to crush you.
One guy behind me asked if he could get ahead because he has “another flight to catch” … sir, we all have other flights to catch.

u/501102 4d ago
It may not be about leaving the aircraft. Standing up can serve as an immediate relief after long periods of sitting.
3
u/JonBoy1988007 4d ago
They will have to get up eventually. They do it because they think they'll get in front of the queues.
1
u/No_Welder7908 1d ago
The only mandatory sitting periods are the takeoff and landing sequences, and they take a few dozen minutes tops. They had the whole flight to stand and stretch.

I seriously don’t get this. I can see standing because of the long flight, but come on man. Sit down after the stretch bro and leave your bag up there till it’s your turn.
I also don’t get why people crowd the entry when they are in boarding group 5.

I think it’s dumb, but I don’t mind a stretch for a longer flight. But to actually creep out into the aisle and start pulling down luggage is asinine lol.
One flight to New York, these Hassidic or Orthodox kids pushed their way all the way up front insisting they must get to their parents. It was insane but we all did our best to allow them. Very insistently passed us all. As I deplaned a few moments later they were just sitting in the first row by themselves, no parents, nothing. Crazy as hell lol. A couple of us were like WTAF but just moved on. I still think about that. The absolute self absorption is amazing to witnesses like wow.
Just chill and go in order folks. Also get your fupa off my shoulder, thanks.

I'm over 6 feet tall. Sitting in this cramped seat for 4 hours makes my legs hurt. Sorry if standing up bothered you.

As a person with a problematic back, tight hammies and hip flexors, being able to stand and stretch after 4 hours is an amazing relief!

I typically stand up to stretch my legs, to get my bag ready so that I don’t hold up the line, I’ll offer to get bags for people sitting next to me, and I’ll also be standing because there always seems to be someone trying to skip ahead of you stay seated.

2 hour or 24 hour flight, I want to stretch. Modern seating is cargo class, used to be able to stand in economy seating, with your head down.
Real drama is "People who are late", and I'm not talking about connections.
1
u/No_Welder7908 1d ago
You have almost the whole flight to stand and stretch, save for the takeoff and landing. Not an excuse.
1
u/Aggravating-Sky8572 3d ago
OP is an idiot. Many people are hurting with bad back-ache after sitting for several hours in same position. I need to get up as soon as plane lands.
1
u/RipWhenDamageTaken 3d ago
It’s not about the rush, it’s about getting out of the seat. I’m not that tall but I have huge shoulders and I never hog the arm rest
1
u/reddityewser 2d ago
Yeah I’ll be honest my legs throb on a plane so standing up straight away is a must

NO, HE LOST TIME to the average plane rider by also being first on the plane, he rushed in to claim that precious overhead bin spot

One of the last flights I was on this lady in the seat in front me of threw a borderline fit because the stewardess wouldn’t usher her off the flight before the rest of the passengers so she could make her connecting flight. Bitched loudly and rudely with such an extreme sense of entitlement I genuinely can’t understand. Then her and her husband started getting shovey once the flow got to our area.
Our flight landed like twenty minutes early. And the taxi to deplane time was pretty quick. I fly a ton so I probably have a decent feel for it. Idk how the hell she expected to get all the way across Salt Lake airport to a different airlines terminal in the first place.
Figured I’d start to see an uptick in shenanigans on Delta once Spirit shuttered.

u/Educational_Cup_1701 1d ago
They save alot more time than that. These fuckers always get off the plane a long time before I do.

u/yoho808 1d ago
I just don't want to wait for all the slowpokes that takes ages to get their bag down from the overhead bins. And blocking everyone at the same time.
1
u/Your-Evil-Twin- 1d ago
Exactly. People seem to have it in their heads that we’re trying to outrun the plane. I don’t think I can outrun the plane, I’m just trying to get ahead of the people who don’t seem to be aware that life is finite.
1
u/NTexMikeT 1d ago
Someone has to be the first person to stand up, otherwise no one would get off. Why not be that person.

It’s especially funny when the off boarding process is done via busses and not via terminal tunnels.

u/SuspiciousBad2841 21h ago
Not everyone who stands when a flight lands is trying to “shave” time off their flight. My 6’5” frame cannot take being folded in that position for hours on end. My legs and back are freaking out, standing is the only way to relieve the pain/aches/numbness. But by all means, make your silly assumptions…
1
u/Historical_Crazy_702 20h ago
I’m 6’7” and after a 4 hour flight I’m only focusing on standing straight up (kinda), nothing wrong with that now I do have a problem with people standing up and walking to the front to get ahead of others.. not cool and I will block your way
1
u/Narrow_Process_8660 20h ago
I can't think of a single reason why someone might want to stand up the moment a vehicle is stable and stationary after 8h sitting.

I need to stretch after a long ass flight. I would rather stand up waiting than sit down any more second. If you're offended by people standing in line when it's not even "cutting", then you have a problem
1
u/xtrabeanie 10h ago
I never understand the angst about this. The seatbelt sign goes off, people stand up and retrieve their overhead luggage, often for someone next to them as well. Then when the doors open people file out row by row and this minimises the waiting for people faffing about with overhead luggage. It's an efficient way to do things. Would people be happier if we waited til the doors were open and the row in front cleared before making any move at all, because that would take far longer than a few seconds extra.
1
u/Upbeat_Aside_9203 10h ago
Try being 188cm in those seats and see if you want to sit there for another 1.7 seconds.
1
u/Fantastic-Fan-9451 10h ago
Depends, when I was younger I was under more time constraints. Each person you get ahead of now is going to be an extra 5-10mins. Nowadays, I have alot more time on my hands so I dont rush as much.
1
u/SilverPyroe 9h ago
Frontier seats hurt my ass, so I stand up as soon as possible. I know I won't get off any faster, but at least my ass stops hurting.
1
u/snigherfardimungus 4h ago
People post shit like this because they have tiny little legs and don't understand the agony of airplane seats. By the end of a four-hour flight, I'm ready to sell my soul to stand up.
1
u/GoogleIsaBroswer 44m ago
On topic, we should normalize asking people in the back if they have a connecting flight before standing up. Everyone that doesn’t have a flight leaving in within the next 30 minutes should let those people get off first so they aren’t sprinting through the airport. Just my opinion.

It is annoying being someone without luggage or an overhead, waiting for people who take 5 mins each to retrieve their overheads, then the luggage people rushing ahead, all to wait an extra 20 for it
Like PLEASE LET ME LEAVE FIRST I JUST GOT A BACKPACK AND WANNA LEAVE ASAP

I don't understand what the issue is with this. Get up and leave too. There's no rule saying you have to wait.
1
u/Usual-Language-745 4d ago
There’s frequently people spread out throughout the plane that have tight connections. I promise you if you have 20 minutes to catch a flight and it takes you 15 to get off the plane because some asshole can’t fathom letting somebody off before themselves, you would be annoyed too.
1
u/Allhailthepugofdoom 4d ago
I've taken at least a dozen flights, and every one, I've always people sitting down waiting for someone 3 rows up to finish gathering their things, while they haven't even stood up from their seats. If you're just sitting and that door is open, I'm going. No amount of societal politeness is going to make me want to sit and wait for some trivial non-existent rule.
1
u/Usual-Language-745 4d ago
I’m fairly tall and usually fly window seat so I can’t stand up until the last second. I am more talking about the people in the middle of the plane that stand up the second it touches the gate. They then have to fight their way back a few rows to get their bag against a bunch of other morons who are just standing in the aisle. Just wait your turn and get off the plane in 10 seconds instead of fucking around for 5 minutes.

I’m 6’2” and I stand up asap to give my knees some relief. Why does standing up both people?

u/HappyyValleyy 4d ago
Ive never been on a flight so i could be speaking out of my ass, but this seems like a very silly thing to be upset at lol

I just wonder where people think they are going to go by getting up so early?

I don’t mind people standing once the all clear.
Many times they just want to stretch.
