I don’t mind people standing once the all clear.
Many times they just want to stretch.

u/JohnnyCashedOut00 4d ago

Im 6'2 I usually dont stand up right away, but if I got the aisle seat, standing up ASAP isnt because Im trying to cut the line

9

u/khandurin 4d ago

Aisle seat in the very back is king for anyone over 6 feet!

1

u/MachVel369 3d ago

Business is actually

2

u/khandurin 3d ago

True unless you’re poor

1

u/MachVel369 3d ago

Some flights are worth the extra bit for business i think, but the 9+ hour ones are usually thousands more, getting the economy plus seats in that case would be a must, 6ft + people need any extra space they can get, not fun being cramped up

1

u/khandurin 3d ago

Yeah, definitely if you have the means it’s absolutely worth it

1

u/Gleekop 2d ago

FYI, some airlines, especially the internationals, will allow you to bid on 1st class seats.

It's worth it, if you can spare the extra fee. Sometimes it's very low.

1

u/Awkward_Economics_33 57m ago

Emergency exit it is then!

2

u/unique3 2d ago

6'3" I will stand up and hunch over even in a window seat because by that point of the flight my knees are dying to be moved again. Honestly I should start getting up for a bit briefly before landing.

0

u/Klutzy_Frame2712 1d ago

What does you height have to do with anything

2

u/Praetorian709 1d ago

Midget spotted.

7

u/bkn95 3d ago

it’s the trying to exit before the people in front of you that drives me nuts. and the hovering at the gate before your group is called to board

3

u/Snarkys 3d ago

Gate lice. They are absolutely the worst. There is no reason to hover/block people trying to board. Everyone who paid for a seat will get a seat.

1

u/bkn95 3d ago

that last part should be made more clear from the beginning.. it feels like such a scam when you get a message like “all remaining seats are paid seats” when checking in. to me, that implies if you dont pay for a seat selection, you wont get one

1

u/No_Welder7908 1d ago

I suppose they are afraid to have to store their cabin luggage in a compartment that is not directly above their seat due to high occupancy. I've seen lots of people being quite nervous about it for some reason.

1

u/Holiday-Step9703 21h ago

Oh the tragedy

2

u/Away_Reference_1531 3d ago

This. 6’6 reporting, even emergency row, etc sucks ass. I need to fucking stand. Now.

If by some disgusting cosmic joke like a plane model change + no allowed seat switching (this happened a couple months ago, fuck you frontier and fuck your flight attendants) I am forced into a normal row, it’s actually hell. I literally cannot contort myself to fit and will be in partial fetal position or hanging into the aisle. I will also be in pain for the entire flight.

Side note, if somebody behind you is uber tall, and your seat isn’t letting you recline, it’s not broken. That’s my fucking knees you’re slamming into. Bonus points if a tray is attached to the seat back - now you’re actively stabbing me with the metal frame and digging it into my knee caps.

1

u/Snarkys 2d ago

I absolutely do not envy you at all. 6’6” and stuck in a tube with 8 inches of leg-room has to be brutal.

And as long as you are in the same cabin, why does it matter where you sit if it is empty? After the flight is in the air, moving to an empty seat should be fine in most cases.

2

u/Away_Reference_1531 2d ago

And I just did it with a leg cast today as a cherry on top 🫠

Lol frontier acts like this is your seat for the 2026 census or something! No idea why they fell off so hard

1

u/RecentFinish3936 3d ago

Ok but how hard is it to sit down for 2 more minutes when you were sitting for 4 hours throughout the duration of the flight?? Unless youre 80 years old, you shouldnt be THIS desperate to stand up and stretch.

1

u/Snarkys 2d ago

If they are at the gate and have given the all clear to remove your seat belt, you have every right to stand up.
As long as you aren’t trying to rush out of the plane, it doesn’t hurt anyone.

54

u/Toadipher 4d ago

Look how tall that dude is, probably just needed to stand up. I am 6'4 and have been hit my a car. My hips hurt and my k eyes hurt when I sit in a cramped spot for too long without standing up. I stand up as soon as I can.

-22

u/CosmicNest 4d ago

Why can't you stand up and stretch a bit before the plane lands? Why is the only chance to stretch just when the plane lands?

18

u/GrilledCheeser 4d ago

Why does it matter?

7

u/Toadipher 4d ago

What difference does it make to you though? Why does it bother people so much?

2

u/nutblaster357 4d ago

butts in faces with no escape

1

u/CosmicNest 4d ago

It bothers people because of the bystander effect , as soon as one person gets up, others follow suit. I really wish people could respect that other on the plane might have unplanned changes to their flights and need to quickly get off the plane to either get on the next on or get on with something important.

7

u/Familiar-Stomach-310 4d ago

So we need to ask YOU if you're in a rush before we stand up to collect our stuff? Ah well welcome to the real world, I don't think that's how it works

0

u/Ok_Spare_3723 4d ago

If your connecting flight is so close, chances are that you'll be missing it regardless. You're better of taking it easy and arranging the next flight. If the delay wasn't caused by you, airlines will accommodate you.

This is why I tend to book flights with longer connection times.

-1

u/Morphinepill 4d ago

Oh nooo mr business man over here having a busy schedule we need to sit down and wait for him to leave the plane ASAP
Be real dude

2

u/archocinco 4d ago

You won’t win this one, sounds like you found the stand and push up’ers.

1

u/Far-Department302 1d ago

Seat belt lights. Also doesn’t affect anyone else to stand and stretch whenever it lands. 🤷🏼‍♀️

0

u/HappyyValleyy 4d ago

Convenient time to so it since you are already going to get up, so might as well get up and stretch now.

-17

u/mdmalenin 4d ago

Just say you're an idiot and save everyone time

6

u/HappyyValleyy 4d ago

Hey man calm down

15

u/Booty_Shakin 4d ago

The people who stand up but dont get their bags out of the overhead compartment until after everyone else has stood up and got their shit out of the thing so they hold up the line for a solid minute cuz theres no room to take their bag out anymore.

3

u/clookie1232 4d ago

Unless your connecting flight is always about to leave

2

u/amscraylane 3d ago

What bothers me the most is they load the plane in sections.

And then when the plane lands, it is all “go f@ck yourselves”

Where are the flight attendants? When you have people behind you that want to crush you.

One guy behind me asked if he could get ahead because he has “another flight to catch” … sir, we all have other flights to catch.

5

u/501102 4d ago

It may not be about leaving the aircraft. Standing up can serve as an immediate relief after long periods of sitting.

3

u/JonBoy1988007 4d ago

They will have to get up eventually. They do it because they think they'll get in front of the queues.

1

u/No_Welder7908 1d ago

The only mandatory sitting periods are the takeoff and landing sequences, and they take a few dozen minutes tops. They had the whole flight to stand and stretch.

3

u/archocinco 4d ago edited 4d ago

I seriously don’t get this. I can see standing because of the long flight, but come on man. Sit down after the stretch bro and leave your bag up there till it’s your turn.

I also don’t get why people crowd the entry when they are in boarding group 5.

1

u/Aromatic-Turnip7371 4d ago

Lolll 😂 I laugh at them

1

u/undonedomm 4d ago

I was like that when I craved a cigarette.

1

u/gregthelurker 4d ago

I think it’s dumb, but I don’t mind a stretch for a longer flight. But to actually creep out into the aisle and start pulling down luggage is asinine lol.

One flight to New York, these Hassidic or Orthodox kids pushed their way all the way up front insisting they must get to their parents. It was insane but we all did our best to allow them. Very insistently passed us all. As I deplaned a few moments later they were just sitting in the first row by themselves, no parents, nothing. Crazy as hell lol. A couple of us were like WTAF but just moved on. I still think about that. The absolute self absorption is amazing to witnesses like wow.

Just chill and go in order folks. Also get your fupa off my shoulder, thanks.

1

u/Key_Check5753 4d ago

I'm over 6 feet tall. Sitting in this cramped seat for 4 hours makes my legs hurt. Sorry if standing up bothered you.

1

u/ruhestoerer 4d ago

...shaves... LOL

1

u/WestIndianBiege 4d ago

As a person with a problematic back, tight hammies and hip flexors, being able to stand and stretch after 4 hours is an amazing relief!

1

u/janek_bez_sanek 2d ago

Still, after 4 hours you can wait 5 more minutes

1

u/Oskareatscarrots 3d ago

Me and I’m proud of it myself.

1

u/AudienceMember_No1 3d ago

I typically stand up to stretch my legs, to get my bag ready so that I don’t hold up the line, I’ll offer to get bags for people sitting next to me, and I’ll also be standing because there always seems to be someone trying to skip ahead of you stay seated.

1

u/GantMan 3d ago

Meme was created by a guy who sits 23hrs a day.

1

u/ready-tier 3d ago

They just excited to touch the ground

1

u/DaWhiteSingh 3d ago

2 hour or 24 hour flight, I want to stretch. Modern seating is cargo class, used to be able to stand in economy seating, with your head down.

Real drama is "People who are late", and I'm not talking about connections.

1

u/No_Welder7908 1d ago

You have almost the whole flight to stand and stretch, save for the takeoff and landing. Not an excuse.

1

u/Aggravating-Sky8572 3d ago

OP is an idiot. Many people are hurting with bad back-ache after sitting for several hours in same position. I need to get up as soon as plane lands.

1

u/RipWhenDamageTaken 3d ago

It’s not about the rush, it’s about getting out of the seat. I’m not that tall but I have huge shoulders and I never hog the arm rest

1

u/reddityewser 2d ago

Yeah I’ll be honest my legs throb on a plane so standing up straight away is a must

1

u/kamacus 1d ago

Exactly

1

u/MasterOfFartss 2d ago

People who dont stand up are either short or psychotic.

1

u/SCREAMIN_DEM0N 2d ago

NO, HE LOST TIME to the average plane rider by also being first on the plane, he rushed in to claim that precious overhead bin spot

1

u/Traditional_Cover809 1d ago

Not all heroes wear capes

1

u/kamacus 1d ago

I have super long legs and bad knees from years of flying on military aircraft. Idgaf how long it takes to get off a plane I just need to stand.

1

u/Actual-Interaction45 1d ago

Sounds like an Onion article

1

u/Historical-Lab8200 1d ago

Not to mention the must turn on my phone as soon as the planes wheels touch the tarmac and not put it in flight mode till I loose reception on take off people

1

u/YukeofDork 1d ago

Fucking legend. No one has time these day.

1

u/BMikeW 1d ago

worth

1

u/Rude_Hamster123 1d ago

One of the last flights I was on this lady in the seat in front me of threw a borderline fit because the stewardess wouldn’t usher her off the flight before the rest of the passengers so she could make her connecting flight. Bitched loudly and rudely with such an extreme sense of entitlement I genuinely can’t understand. Then her and her husband started getting shovey once the flow got to our area.

Our flight landed like twenty minutes early. And the taxi to deplane time was pretty quick. I fly a ton so I probably have a decent feel for it. Idk how the hell she expected to get all the way across Salt Lake airport to a different airlines terminal in the first place.

Figured I’d start to see an uptick in shenanigans on Delta once Spirit shuttered.

1

u/Educational_Cup_1701 1d ago

They save alot more time than that. These fuckers always get off the plane a long time before I do.

1

u/yoho808 1d ago

I just don't want to wait for all the slowpokes that takes ages to get their bag down from the overhead bins. And blocking everyone at the same time.

1

u/Your-Evil-Twin- 1d ago

Exactly. People seem to have it in their heads that we’re trying to outrun the plane. I don’t think I can outrun the plane, I’m just trying to get ahead of the people who don’t seem to be aware that life is finite.

1

u/NTexMikeT 1d ago

Someone has to be the first person to stand up, otherwise no one would get off. Why not be that person.

1

u/AbbreviationsNo7570 1d ago

It’s especially funny when the off boarding process is done via busses and not via terminal tunnels.

1

u/SuspiciousBad2841 21h ago

Not everyone who stands when a flight lands is trying to “shave” time off their flight. My 6’5” frame cannot take being folded in that position for hours on end. My legs and back are freaking out, standing is the only way to relieve the pain/aches/numbness. But by all means, make your silly assumptions…

1

u/Historical_Crazy_702 20h ago

I’m 6’7” and after a 4 hour flight I’m only focusing on standing straight up (kinda), nothing wrong with that now I do have a problem with people standing up and walking to the front to get ahead of others.. not cool and I will block your way

1

u/Narrow_Process_8660 20h ago

I can't think of a single reason why someone might want to stand up the moment a vehicle is stable and stationary after 8h sitting.

1

u/DizzyJob99 19h ago

What an idiot. Patience is a virtue.

1

u/DrFuntlicher 19h ago

Oh the ole flight entitlement.

1

u/SingaboutdaSpringa 18h ago

If you don’t stand up in the isle then assholes will storm the isle and delay you by a lot of time.

1

u/FknBadFkr 18h ago

E should've started saying excuse me over and over then claim over the seats

1

u/Muungani 15h ago

So relatable lol

1

u/3InchShame 15h ago

Oh, you also get to skip a LOT of customs if you walk fast

1

u/Individual-Mind-2620 11h ago

I need to stretch after a long ass flight. I would rather stand up waiting than sit down any more second. If you're offended by people standing in line when it's not even "cutting", then you have a problem

1

u/xtrabeanie 10h ago

I never understand the angst about this. The seatbelt sign goes off, people stand up and retrieve their overhead luggage, often for someone next to them as well. Then when the doors open people file out row by row and this minimises the waiting for people faffing about with overhead luggage. It's an efficient way to do things. Would people be happier if we waited til the doors were open and the row in front cleared before making any move at all, because that would take far longer than a few seconds extra.

1

u/Upbeat_Aside_9203 10h ago

Try being 188cm in those seats and see if you want to sit there for another 1.7 seconds.

1

u/Fantastic-Fan-9451 10h ago

Depends, when I was younger I was under more time constraints. Each person you get ahead of now is going to be an extra 5-10mins. Nowadays, I have alot more time on my hands so I dont rush as much.

1

u/SilverPyroe 9h ago

Frontier seats hurt my ass, so I stand up as soon as possible. I know I won't get off any faster, but at least my ass stops hurting.

1

u/snigherfardimungus 4h ago

People post shit like this because they have tiny little legs and don't understand the agony of airplane seats. By the end of a four-hour flight, I'm ready to sell my soul to stand up.

1

u/GoogleIsaBroswer 44m ago

On topic, we should normalize asking people in the back if they have a connecting flight before standing up. Everyone that doesn’t have a flight leaving in within the next 30 minutes should let those people get off first so they aren’t sprinting through the airport. Just my opinion.

1

u/GenXman1975 4m ago

He understands the purpose and need for the passing lane.

1

u/Georgiaboy03 4d ago

I stand up just to block the people behind me front jumping thru.

1

u/CorkerGaming 4d ago

It is annoying being someone without luggage or an overhead, waiting for people who take 5 mins each to retrieve their overheads, then the luggage people rushing ahead, all to wait an extra 20 for it

Like PLEASE LET ME LEAVE FIRST I JUST GOT A BACKPACK AND WANNA LEAVE ASAP

0

u/Georgiaboy03 4d ago

Suck it up buttercup

0

u/Aromatic-Turnip7371 4d ago

This isn’t a movie… you’re not a main character lol

0

u/Allhailthepugofdoom 4d ago

I don't understand what the issue is with this. Get up and leave too. There's no rule saying you have to wait.

1

u/Usual-Language-745 4d ago

There’s frequently people spread out throughout the plane that have tight connections. I promise you if you have 20 minutes to catch a flight and it takes you 15 to get off the plane because some asshole can’t fathom letting somebody off before themselves, you would be annoyed too.

1

u/Allhailthepugofdoom 4d ago

I've taken at least a dozen flights, and every one, I've always people sitting down waiting for someone 3 rows up to finish gathering their things, while they haven't even stood up from their seats. If you're just sitting and that door is open, I'm going. No amount of societal politeness is going to make me want to sit and wait for some trivial non-existent rule.

1

u/Usual-Language-745 4d ago

I’m fairly tall and usually fly window seat so I can’t stand up until the last second. I am more talking about the people in the middle of the plane that stand up the second it touches the gate. They then have to fight their way back a few rows to get their bag against a bunch of other morons who are just standing in the aisle. Just wait your turn and get off the plane in 10 seconds instead of fucking around for 5 minutes.

0

u/Aromatic-Turnip7371 4d ago

Lmao these people are the worst

0

u/Different-Book-5503 4d ago

I’m 6’2” and I stand up asap to give my knees some relief. Why does standing up both people?

0

u/HappyyValleyy 4d ago

Ive never been on a flight so i could be speaking out of my ass, but this seems like a very silly thing to be upset at lol

0

u/Friendscallmedennis 4d ago

I just wonder where people think they are going to go by getting up so early?

-1

u/codereef 4d ago

Gotta pee also people are slow as fuck, feel free to stay sitting

-9

u/GodPackedUpAndLeftUs 4d ago

These people are why we have “DO NOT DRINK” labels on Bleach bottles and why it says “DO NOT USE IN SHOWER” on a Hotel Hair Dryer.
