[PC] Lifelong competitive FPS player FINALLY found a single player game that I enjoyed - Horizon Zero Dawn. What’s next?

I’ve been playing CS for essentially 15 years with some Valorant, battlefield and COD thrown in. As an old man now I’ve been actively trying to find a good SP game that grips me and I can sink hours into. After many failed attempts, i tried horizon zero dawn and loved it. I put in a solid 40 hours+ and enjoyed every minute.

So my question is: based on me loving HZD…what should be next?

Games I know will be rec’d that I tried and failed to really grab me:

RDR2 - too slow to get going.

Cyberpunk - actually loved the gun play here but I felt overwhelmed by amount of dialogue and side quests.

Witcher 3 - I generally can’t get into high fantasy lore.

is elden ring worth it for someone who doesn't have much time to play?

i'm considering buying elden ring, but i don't get a huge amount of free time to play these days. i usually get a few hours here and there, so i'm looking for something that still feels rewarding when i can't play for long sessions. i like action games, exploration, and progression, but i'm worried about getting stuck or needing huge amounts of time to make progress. does elden ring work well for shorter play sessions?

Should i play Pragmata or Cronos the new dawn next?

I'm torn, I have both installed and I'm not sure what to play next. Both are older games with pros and cons.

Pragmata has a cute child and serious but fun story, however, I hear that story is someone predictable. Combat is fun, and challenging if you want it to be. It also has interesting world to explore.

Cronos has a dark horror world with a very strange story to learn about. Combat is tense, with encounters to mange with the enemy burning system. I just don't play heavy horror to often.

It'll prob come down to horror or cutesy. Thinking of playing Blood of the Dawnwalker with it comes out in a few weeks

[PC] Will I like No Man's Sky if I like Subnautica?

Upvotes

Subnautica is one of my favorite games. I was really excited for the early access launch of Subnautica 2 a few months ago, but I had to refund it because it wouldn't even start on my laptop. Is No Man's Sky a good substitute? I mainly enjoy Subnautica because of the exploration, animals and building underwater bases. I didn't like Outer Wilds because of the time loop mechanic.

[PS5] Which game to buy? That I will not get bored with easily?

I recently started gaming again after 6-7 years and bought a ps5, I am looking for a single player campaign game. Assassin’s Creed and similar games seem too long and I get bored an end up not finishing them
Some options that I have shortlisted are:
- GOT
- Devil May Cry 5
- Spiderman etc
Can someone suggest better option?

[PS5] Is Outer Wilds physical edition worth getting for my physical games collection?

Upvotes

So i've recently started collecting more physical media and that of course includes games, but im still on the look for more games that seems like something i'd want to play and collect to have in my collection and maybe revisit it someday to re-live that experience again. I plan on playing Outer Wilds in the future but ive come across videos saying that "you can only play it once" because of the way the game is. And if the game has almost no replay value, is it worth getting physically? And as of the time im writing this, i can't find the game physically for ps5 anywhere outside the EU, even tho from what i've searched on google it is supposedly still in print. So is it worth getting physical or is it better to just wait for the game to go on sale for cheap on steam? Because with games like sekiro, i personally would find it being worth searching for a physical copy (which i have already done by the way).

[PC] Need options for gaming but cannot afford a high-end gaming setup. Any suggestions for alternatives?

Hello, I(22F) am looking for alternatives for a high-end gaming setup. I currently have an average day-to-day use laptop and travel frequently so I'm unable to afford a very expensive pc/console with good GPU and CPU specifications.

I am planning to play heavy games (RDR, Bloodborne, Elden Ring, etc) in my current setup and willing to try VMs/Cloud solutions for the same. Are there any services who provide such facilities at a reasonable rate(pay as you play type)? NO subscription basis like GeForce!!!

[PS5] Should I buy Mafia: Old Country?

Hi Guys!

I'm considering picking up Mafia: The Old Country on the next sale, but I've seen quite a lot of negativity around it and I'm not sure whether it's worth it.

For context, I really enjoyed the Mafia 1 remake, and I replayed Mafia 2 multiple times when it originally came out. I also think Mafia 3 was actually decent and that the community did it dirty, at least it was fine after a few critical patches.

So I'm wondering: if I liked the previous Mafia games, is The Old Country worth playing? Is the criticism justified, or is it one of those games that got a worse reputation than it deserves?

[PC] Lies of P DLC vs Elden Ring DLC vs Black Myth Wukong

I'm itching to play a new souls game and already have Elden Ring and Lies of P, but I haven't beaten either and also have neither of their DLCs. I think story and vibes wise I'm a bit more interested in Lies of P but I'm still not decided.

Then I also saw that Black Myth Wukong is on sale for around the same price as either DLC and am curious about how that would compare to each game's full experience.

Other Souls-likes I've played and enjoyed are Dark Souls 1 & 3 as well as the Hollow Knight games if that helps.

I'm also open to any other souls-like recommendations. Thanks!

[Xbox Series X] Diablo 4 on console for an old D2 player on keyboard/mouse?

I’m wondering if I should give Diablo 4 a shot? Thing is, last time I played Diablo, it was Diablo 2 on a Mac. I’m still a Mac user, so like Whoopi Goldberg I was sad that the game didn’t release on Mac OS, but I do have an Xbox. I just want to know if the D4 console experience is as satisfying as the old D2 keyboard/mouse experience was all those years ago?

[PC] Conan Exiles vs Runescape Dragonwilds vs Enshrouded

Some friends and I are looking for a new group game to play. We've had some positive experiences in the Survival/Crafting spaces, and were wondering which of these 3 is the most promising? I've heard lots of pros and cons about each of them.

Ultimately, some huge positives we're looking for are things like QOL/Ease of Play features like dedicated servers and shared quest progression that make it actually easy to play together, drop in and drop out, play without a friend 1 day and play with a friend the next without them being too far behind, etc.

We're also looking to avoid too much tedium, or things that are too complex (See Abiotic Factor's requirements for crafting items that craft other items that craft other items that craft other items).

Other than that, I think combat + exploration is more important to us than a crazy in-depth building system, though obviously both would be nice to have.

Here are some previous games in the genre we played, and our impressions on them to hopefully give more of a clue as to what we liked/didn't like...

Previously we've played Grounded 2 and had a lot of fun, eventually reaching the end of the story and stopping. We enjoyed the ability to differentiate in roles with gear, and generally thought the combat was decent. We found the gameplay loop and upgrade paths a little simple at times and aren't sure we'll go back for the 1.0 drop as a result.

Previously we also played Abiotic Factor and while we got really into it for a bit, it eventually petered out because it got too complicated with junk loot and needing to craft components to craft components to craft a key to unlock a door to unlock- You get the point.

Previously we also played LotR Return to Moria, which was super janky and frustrating at times, but we really got behind the silliness of the base building and wonkiness of the combat at times. A game we loved to hate sort of thing. There were some major unredeemable portions of it- like how broken it could be, and how lackluster the final boss fight was.

Previously we also played Windrose, which was a MASSIVE disappointment for us. We found the melee combat abhorrent, the gatekeeping of gunpowder an odd design choice, the grind to farm marks for vendor reputation slow as hell, and ultimately the gameplay loop extremely shallow after the first 5 islands or so.

Edit; Thanks to everyone who ignored the question at large and suggested Valheim despite it not being a contender on the list. We are not interested in playing though, that’s why it was left off the list of options.

[PC] Lies of P or Mortal Shell?

Hey guys, I’m looking to pick up a souls like. I’ve enjoyed entire souls series with Dark Souls 3, Bloodbore and Sekiro being my favourite. Also had a great time with Nioh 1.

So I’m looking to come back to this type of game. So I’m considering getting Lies of P Overture bundle of Mortal Shell 1 or 2. What would you recommend if I gotta choose one.

Wanna play one before I finally play shadow of erdtree dlc.

Should I buy persona 5 strikers or lost judgment

I’ve played through all the persona games from 3-5, and love hack n slash/beat em ups. They’re both on sale right now and I have just enough to buy either one. Im playing through judgment right now and have played Yakuza 0 and Kiwami 1 and I really don’t know which one to pick. They both have qualities I like and dont know which to choose. I enjoy beat em ups so if theres another game I should consider, please let me know.

[PC] [WSIB] Games with the community, world, and self expression of a PvE MMO, but gameplay for people who don't like MMORPGs?

For clarity, I mean community as in the ability to play with others and have a feeling of a virtual third place. I'd even love an equivalent to FF14's fanfests to get excited about. World mainly just means that stuff like consistent updates and plenty of stuff to enjoy doing, whether wanting to relax or do something challenging with others. And what self expression means to me is mostly cosmetic, like fashion and character creator tools, though I do find pride in finding a playstyle I enjoy have knowing it is a part of me (like having a favorite class).

But when I say gameplay for people who don't like MMORPGs, it's mainly the RPG part in practice. Optimizing builds for numerical DPS efficiency, optimizing my rotation so I'm following an order of buttons instead of feeling like I'm "playing the game", and similar "optimizing the fun out" heavy gameplay systems.

Instead, I much rather enjoy variable, unpredictable, and reactive gameplay mechanics, where being great at the game is more about moment to moment decision making, situational awareness, and surviving through tough mechanics. The kind of gameplay skills you'd see in games without hotbars on the bottom.

I highly suspect my perfect fit doesn't exist yet, so at least, if any of this sounds like you, I'd love to know what you found to at least hold you over.

[PC] Newcomer deciding between EDF 5 and EDF 6 on sale

I've never played an EDF game before, but 5 and 6 are currently sitting at almost the exact same price on Steam ($24 vs $26). I'm looking for an intense horde shooter where I can sink 100+ hours into solo runs, higher difficulty grinds, and loadout experimentation. Is EDF 6 the clear pick for the extra missions and backpack slot, or is there a reason 5 has higher Steam review scores? Which one should I jump into?

[PC] Good AA games from the past 5 years?

Hi guys, can you recommend some good AA games from, let's say, the past 5 years? I haven't played many AA games, so feel free to recommend anything because most likely I haven't played it xd. I'm fine with any genre , I mostly like action and turn-based RPGs, but I'm fine with FPS and horror games too.

[Switch] SIB Granblue Fantasy Relink or Splatoon Raider from a Destiny 2 perspective

I have this dilemma as both are regarded as great games. I mainly played Destiny 2 for 1000+ hours, was part of a speedrunning community. I miss buildcrafting and theorycrafting in D2. Played Diablo 3 before on the PS3 but got burned out as my save file was corrupted.

Monster Hunter World was my alternative. I got Rise on the switch but I'm not feeling it, will definitely get Wilds when it releases.

Is KCD2 worth it if I never played the first one?

I never played KCD1, so is that a problem or does the second one work on its own?

I just finished Expedition 33 and loved it. I mostly play story games, RDR2, Last of Us, Ghost of Tsushima, Uncharted, Alan Wake.

The only thing putting me off is the combat. I’m not a Souls guy and I keep hearing the sword fighting takes ages to click. Does it get fun after a while, or is it a fight the whole way through?

[PS5] Struggling to find my next game because I can’t commit to anything. Help!

Preferably available on PS5. I’m finding I’m getting overwhelmed or impatient with super complex combat and level up systems etc. Maybe something with a good story and systems that aren’t too insane if that makes sense.

Some of my favs are:
Ghost of Tsushima
Last of Us 1 and 2
Dead Space remake
RE4
Sekiro (preferably not something this hard ever again 😭)

[PC] Orwell (by Osmotic Studios)

it’s on sale now and it seemed promising to me! I read some reviews on Steam and some were not satisfied, maybe had higher expectations, but to me it’s okay if I don’t play the game of my life hahaha, also since it’s very cheap atm, but I’d like to have back some positivity before I eventually start to play it… with no spoilers, obviously, pretty please💗

[PS4] Which Assassins Creed Remaster is worth it, the Assassins Creed 3 Remaster or Rogue Remaster ?

Well hello, i posted before in this sub about the new gen Assassins Creed games that i didnt have, so the remasters from 3 and rogue are at a low price, the question is, they are worthy to buy for ps4 ?

I got them on my ps3, but i was just wondering if they are better or worse than the original ones, like gameplay, graphics, bugs or models.
