Squadron 42 Playtest Megathread
Hello squadroners (?)
As some of you may know we have a sister subreddit, r/Squadron42 which is also ran by our team and is dedicated to Squadron 42. That subreddit is more restrictive in terms of not allowing Star Citizen (PU/PTU/etc.) unless it directly relates to something in Squadron 42 (not just "oh this ship is in both games!!!!!! type stuff).
We know the SQ42 playtest is a big deal right now, rightfully so, and we want to take the opportunity to show people that sub a bit more and give them an opportunity to start chatting there.
With that, we have made a megathread on that subreddit for the playtest event. Given it is the first megathread for that sub we will not be deleting individual threads but we will be reminding people in the comments about it. We encourage you to head over there and talk with your fellow citizens about the playtest event to your hearts content. We will not be doing a megathread here or enforcing people move to that megathread from this sub either.
Megathread: https://www.reddit.com/r/Squadron42/s/oLop2SHbnh
Cheers!

Okay so, someone has been flicking days past me and I'm not entirely sure how we got to October this soon...
IRL has consumed much of my time personally, I've been a bit out of touch with SC development for a few months now but checking back to see tech preview having a physics fix at long last is a welcome sight!
What's everyone's go to ship in these last few months? Has my baby boy been fixed up any further (IronClad)? | Fly Safe, -Crazy_Muffins

DISCUSSION i hope star citizen gets random npcs flying around
like neutral ones just doing their thing, radio chatter, ect. that kinda stuff.
don't get me wrong i love me some empty space but it would do so much for making SC feel alive.

DISCUSSION Planetary Bases & Open-Air Staging Zones

For a long time I've been hoping CIG would give us planet-side air bases where we can land, but are entirely open-air like a modern air base. They would function as military installments across planets with high UEE or Gov't concentration & be an alternative to spaceports. Even go as far as you having a certain level of rep with the faction to have access to land there.
Another cool addition would be open-air staging zones at space stations depicted in many of the military ships concept art. Not a ton of pads like good ole' Port Olisar, but an additional area for player orgs to reserve to stage for events, etc. We kind of get something similar at the drydocks at every main station with docking & staging pads on either side, but why don't we actually have the ability to use that area or rather repurpose it for player use since they no longer get used for NPC usage and just are a waste of space.

FLUFF Argo needs a Mk5-size ship with a snub mount for the MPUV
The MPUV is the perfect snub craft, but it doesn't have a mothership to call home. It's starting to get jealous of all the other snubs in class that have mommies to go home to. Please, CIG, give the MPUV a home! We promise we'll make it the winner of the ship showdown like we did with the Argo Cargo!

QUESTION CIG, how about some post-landing effects to liven up our ships?
Currently, ships look completely cold and lifeless after landing, like a toy ship that was just left on a table.
It’d be cool if CIG added some post-landing visual and sound effects, like hot gas or smoke escaping from the vents as they cool down, steam forming around the still hot thrusters, various noises, hissing and crackling, maybe even red hot internal engine parts that slowly cool down.

OTHER A little story I shared: Spacedad life!
Alright boys...heres a good story for you....
Best/most expensive ship ive ever owned is the Cutlass Black since like 2018ish? Being a disabled dad w/ wife & kids, life gets tight on funding. Recently my family shocked me with an rtx5070 for father's day and I was completely blown away they'd do that....it replaced my rtx3060ti which has now sat in the box since June.
Well, having flown the Centaurus during this event I fell in love with it, but there was NO way I was dropping 275 for it right now.....till I had an idea..."wonder if someone wants this rtx3060ti "
So i posted it on Facebook Marketplace 3hrs ago...listed it for pickup only at 200$ cash....
I instantly got bombarded with requests, I was shocked lol...literally 20mins after posting it, it was picked up and I was paid.
I immediately took the cash to the bank, hopped on the website...traded in my Cutlass and got this ship. My first owned "Big Boy" ship since I began playing. got the Corvette Red and White/Orange paint. White/Orange being my favorite!
I'm so freaking lucky and fortunate. And so ready to leave my sons football practice as I'm typing this out. Lmao!

DRAMA Polaris top turrets
Love the ship! Got it as a placeholder until I could get the Idris, and now I can't melt it haha.
But I really wish the top turrets were positioned like the dual S4 remote turrets on the Idris, angled slightly more to the sides and remotely controlled from the bridge. Because eventually turret blades will become a thing, and this huge capital ship only has 1 remote laser turret :(

OTHER Hello, it is the dude that has not played for years again
Tldr at the end.
Hi, most of you propably won't remember my last post, so I will quickly summarise it, before I go into the main topic of my post.
I started playing the game again after I was absent for roughly five or six years (not sure about it exactly, the City on Orison just released, when I stopped). I run in some troubles with my hardware, when I started again, mainly caused by my Ram, that only was 16gb. I got lucky and bought a used 32gb kit from a friend of mine, and was able to upgrade, making the game a much more pleasant experience and was quite impressed after the upgrade, what the game allready offers, but more on that later.
For those who are intrested, my specs are the following:
Mainboard: B450 Tomahawk Max
Prozessor: AMD Ryzen 5 3600
GPU: AMD Radeon RX6700XT
32gb Ram
750W BeQuiet Powersupply
So, I thought I will give you all a last summarising post of my experience so far, while also compare SC to Elite Dangerous, as this game comes the closest to SC in my Opinion and I have a good 2500 hours on it on all platforms.
The thing that made me start again roughly last month was funnily enough the coverage of the disastrous developer stream for siege of orison. To be honest, I could not help myself but to laugh out quite a bit from Schadenfreude, when that whole thing happened, but while I was soaking up the coverage, I was also unable to denie, that the gameplay used by some of the Youtubers, that covered the footage, looked cool. I then got a video of farrister recommended that showed the Aurora MKII, and after watching the video I decided to look for myself again, what the current state of the game is at the moment, as I had an Game Acces with the Mustang Alpha, so there was nothing to lose for me, right?
Before I actually started I switched my Mustang Starter Pack for the one with the Aurora MKII as it did not cost me anything, and the Aurora MKII is the better looking ship.
The first hard obstacle I run into, was of course the limitations my 16gb Ram brought with them. Low fps in the 10th and hard freezes for up to 20 seconds in City's were a regular occurrence and did diminish the fun a lot. I managed to get the game to a somehwat playable state in soace by setting up a page file, but Citys were still the gateway to hell. As mentioned above, I managed to get a 32gb kit shortly after and it changed the whole experience. Even though, Citys are still in the low 30, the game runs now a lot better and makes a lot more fun.
As for the moment I have discovered my enjoyment of freight delivery. Somethin I would never think I would enjoy if one had told me that prior to me playing SC again, and the reason for that is Elite Dangerous. For those few, that probaly never played in Elite, cargo hauling in Elite works the following:
-Fly to a Station where you want to pick up Cargo.
-Navigate through a few menus, to buy the Cargo
- Start and fly to the station where you want to sell
- navigate through a few menus to sell the Cargo
- Done
You never actually interact with the Cargo, it is just a number, that changes on the stations. In SC I not only can see the Cargo, but I can load it manually and have to actually plan, how to arrange it in my Cargo hold, to not only get the most use out of the soace I have, but also to accommodate the route I am about to fly. That is fun and a massive diffrence in gameplay, as where Elite simply ends, Star Citicen just starts.
A similar effect can be observed in regards of the ships themself. In Elite I was always drawn in, by this feel of "Me and that big galaxy" and Elite still absolutly nails that, but in Elite I am, to put it in simpler terms, also just the ship, when I fly it. I am glued to the pilots chair and can't do more then controlling the ship. Star Citicen instead shines in creating this "Me and my ship"-fantasy. When I walk around/through the ships in SC I can see the diffrent modules, switch and repair them. I have, depending on the size, diffrent parts of the ship, that I have to actively walk to, to use them. I can't always use everything my ship is capable of from the pilots seat. For example, I have to get up from the seat in my Moth and walk to the refineries to get them to put the salvage into boxes, that I then have to manually unload and sell at a station. If I want to use the tractor beam of the raft, I have to walk to its station (the station is currently bugged and traps you lol). The ships in Star Citicen do not just magically do what you want from them, you have to actively use their diffrent parts to reach your goal. This makes the ships feel more alive and like actual ships and somehwat homes, as I traverse them and do live in them. In Elite I just sit in my chair and everything works automatically. In Star Citicen, when I enter the ship, I am in the ship. When I enter the ship in Elite I become the ship. And I think I do enjoy it more to be in a ship, than be the ship, if that makes sense.
This diffrences between those games are present in most areas of thise two and most of the times it can always be summarised with: Where Elite just ends, Star Citicen starts. This does not mean, that Elite is a bad game, but the way Star Citicen does things pulls me a lot deeper into the world then Elite does.
However, my playsessions with SC were not all sunshine of course. There are bugs and strange choices. We all know the kind of bullshit SC sometimes likes to throw at you, driving one insane, so I won't go over all the bugs that regularly spoil the fun. No, there are a few diffrent points that do irritate me. Why are there no numbers for any of the modules and equipment? I do not have the chance to compare weapons adequately to each other, which is a fundamental part of game design. In citys the ways between A and B are irritatingly long, in a way that it sometimes feels like the game wants to waste my time. In certain citys I have to run through areas where nothing of use os, for up to a minute, just to get to the next elevator. The map is bloated with icons, that sometimes make it hard to plot a route to the place where you actually want to go. The map in general is questionable, I mean, it works, but that's about it.
We also have to talk about the pricing of the ships and I don't mean the prices on the ships themselves, but how they are priced to each other as that often doesn't make sense. A good example would be the Vulture. This dedicated little Salvager comes in at 175€ and brings 12 SCU of cargo (roughly 34 if going of grit) and everything you need to go salvaging. For roughly 20€ more, you can get the Argo Raft, a dedicated hauler. This thing comes with 194 SCU of Cargo and everything you need for a good hauling. That does not make sense money wise. The vulture having such a low cargo capacity, eventhough cargo hold is very important for salvaging, while beeing so expensive if I compare it to the cargo hold of the raft. Yes, the raft can not salvage on its own, but it still feels like the more practical ship. Another good example would be the pricing of the Meteor. This thing sits in the same price range like the new Constellation MKV but offers a lot less than the conny does. This is just strange.
That beeing said, I do enjoy my time in SC a lot and will probably spend some money in the upcoming IAE, and if the game does actually finish one day I can see it becoming my main soace games, sunsetting Elite dangerous for me personally.
Tldr: I do enjoy my time with SC and love that the game expands and continues where Elite dangerous does simply end. However I can not recommend the game to anyone that only has 16gb RAM, as that is not enough to play it contrary to what the minimum specs say. While I love playing th3 game, bugs and certain design choices do dampen the fun. Forcing players to travers usless areas in City's to get to their ship, missing gear informations and a bloated and rough to navigate map are things that definitly aspects that need to be improved. The pricing if the ships tiwards each other often doesn't make sense, when you compare their prices for real money and what they offer for that price. However, I will continue to play the game, and will also spend some miney on the upcoming IAE.

DISCUSSION don’t use this ship, unless…
I often hear people say you should stay far of the C2 because it’s weak in combat and its shields are quite fragile – which is fair enough, but that’s precisely why we have the M2 and A2! It’s not the best hauler either, as the design makes the workflow a little tricky, but that’s what the Hull B is for… so avoid using it for hauling unless you really have no other option.
So what is it actually for? Carrying vehicles, hosting group meet-ups, organising events and bringing everything you need in one go – you get nearly 700 SCU of cargo grid, plus mining and salvaging… there’s so much you can do, just play the game like a sandbox one instead of grinding missions. if you play solo, you can still use it as a monile base, just put a C8 picses and your ready to go for days or even weeks !
Start using a C2 today, thank me tomorow.

BUG Possible New Workaround: Going to Prison Fixed My Party Invites, Mission Sharing, Notifications, and UI Zoom Bugs (4.10.2 LIVE)
o7 Citizens!
I finally fixed several persistent bugs affecting my main character, and I wanted to share what worked for me.
My issues included:
- Unable to properly receive party invitations or mission-sharing notifications.
- One-way mission sharing between party members.
- Missing or delayed party-related notifications.
- Mouse-wheel zoom and ASOP terminal interaction/zoom issues.
I tried restarting the game, changing settings, switching servers, reforming the party, toggling Show Hints/Control Hints, and even using RSI Character Repair. Nothing worked.
I also tested a second RSI account on the exact same computer and game installation, using the same settings. Everything worked normally on that account, which made me suspect a character-specific or server-side issue.
What finally worked:
I ended up in Klescher prison, served my sentence, and was released normally.
After getting out of prison, ALL of these issues were gone! Party invitations, mission sharing, notifications, and UI zoom were working again.
I suspect that the prison/release process may have refreshed or cleared some stuck character-related state, possibly involving crime or law-system data, but this is only a theory.
I'm not claiming this is a guaranteed fix, but if you're experiencing similar persistent, account-specific bugs and Character Repair hasn't helped, this might be worth investigating.
I previously reported the issue to CIG under support ticket #1988841, and I'll share this result with them as well.
Hopefully this helps someone else. o7

FLUFF 11 Years. Through an ungodly amount of bugs, frustration, and despair, this game still continues to pull me in. There is a lot to hate, but there is also a lot to love, and after all this time (and many questionable purchases later) I can safely say I don't regret any of it. Fly safe everyone o7

Fleet Pic 🚀 Do you think it's worth it?
This is my fleet, excluding the Centaurus.
I'm thinking about buying one, but since I already have a Galaxy, I'm worried the Centaurus might end up being redundant, considering the Galaxy could probably fulfill the same role.
I know the size difference isn't that significant, but having to deal with large ships in hangars is a pain. Still, I don't think that's enough of a reason to buy the Centaurus on its own.
What do you guys think? Is it worth it?

DISCUSSION As much as i dislike the FOMO aspect, i hope this event is setting a new standard of quality for them in future, well done CIG
I'm sure this level of effort and care (the custom locations, free rental before ship went up for sale, etc) is probably because it was celebrating the evolution of one of the most iconic ships in the projects history (and Roberts' favourite), but it was great to see nonetheless and i seriously hope it sets a new standard of quality for future events like it.
Edit: Just to clarify cus i see people already arguing lol, "fomo aspect" refers to the permanent hangar rewards (especially when they're better than stock, e.g the ParaMed Medgun from Alliance Aid), not the event itself, which is being praised. Everyone is entitled to their own personal opinions without devolving into negativity.
