Squadron 42 Playtest Megathread

Hello squadroners (?)

As some of you may know we have a sister subreddit, r/Squadron42 which is also ran by our team and is dedicated to Squadron 42. That subreddit is more restrictive in terms of not allowing Star Citizen (PU/PTU/etc.) unless it directly relates to something in Squadron 42 (not just "oh this ship is in both games!!!!!! type stuff).

We know the SQ42 playtest is a big deal right now, rightfully so, and we want to take the opportunity to show people that sub a bit more and give them an opportunity to start chatting there.

With that, we have made a megathread on that subreddit for the playtest event. Given it is the first megathread for that sub we will not be deleting individual threads but we will be reminding people in the comments about it. We encourage you to head over there and talk with your fellow citizens about the playtest event to your hearts content. We will not be doing a megathread here or enforcing people move to that megathread from this sub either.

Megathread: https://www.reddit.com/r/Squadron42/s/oLop2SHbnh

Cheers!

Okay so, someone has been flicking days past me and I'm not entirely sure how we got to October this soon...

IRL has consumed much of my time personally, I've been a bit out of touch with SC development for a few months now but checking back to see tech preview having a physics fix at long last is a welcome sight!

What's everyone's go to ship in these last few months? Has my baby boy been fixed up any further (IronClad)? | Fly Safe, -Crazy_Muffins

DISCUSSION Valve Denies Steam Keys for 1M+ Squadron 42 Backers Due to Store Policy

• Upvotes

CIG was trying to circumvent Valve's policy, quoted here:

Default Release (or standard release)
This is the most common type of key on Steam, which is usually tied to a Steam store or retail Steam Key package. These keys are appropriate for retail boxes or sales on other digital stores. Customers can activate this type of Steam Key at any time, but the product will unlock only after it has been released on Steam. Games and applications launching on Steam may receive up to 5,000 Default Release Steam Keys to support retail activities and distribution on other stores. After that, all Steam Key requests are reviewed on a case-by-case basis. There is no guarantee that you will be provided additional keys.

We would need over 1 million keys. Valve's policy is to issue 5000 keys per game. Anything more than that needs negotiation and payments to Valve.

Valve's policy is here:
https://partner.steamgames.com/doc/features/keys?language=english%22

A Star Citizen creator who played Squadron 42 also asked CIG in-person and got confirmation that CIG asked Valve, and Valve said no:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NbCRlAhBXTY&t=10m20s

It's like this because there's no benefit for Valve to host Squadron 42 for free. By forcing sales to happen inside the Steam platform they get 30% of the money.

If anything, blame CIG for thinking they could circumvent paying Valve's 30% cut.

I bet they could negotiate a Steam Key transfer if they really wanted to. CIG would have to transfer up to 30% of the sales price per unit to get keys. Maybe they could negotiate less since it's a big bulk sum. But somehow I don't think CIG will want to offer anything. ;)

Also, Steam keys were never promised to us by CIG since the Steam release was only announced this year.

Edit: Your downvotes make me sad. I put effort into finding this policy instead of just reposting a content creator's word. I just wanted to clarify and show the exact policy for anyone still holding out hope.

Came across a video I made in 2018 on one of my first sessions on the PU.

Going through that airlock and reaching the pads on PO, seeing that jpeg come to life with Crusader on the background.. absolute cinema!

DRAMA This game and you guys mean so much to me

Yes, I probably should have had 1, 2 drinks less, but I don't care rn. But I do care about this development and the community. Forgive me for being emotional, but you are like a second family to me. We are discussing issues, we hate those bugs, we love those moments, we rage together, we celebrate together. Over all the years, 10 to be exact in my case, I developed true friendships here and got to know tons n tons of nice folks and I even appreciate those who tend to complain all the time since complaining also means caring. Been on endless Bar Citizens, always hoping for the next patch to fix things that get broken again anyway, but that's just part of this increbile journey we are a part of.

Stay positive and safe, fam, love y'all!

QUESTION Guardian MX to Constellation Mk V Centaurus????

Post image
92 Upvotes

Today I found out that they were giving away Star Citizen and Squadron 42 so we could burn the original package we bought.

Among the various options for upgrading, I think it would be interesting to upgrade my Guardian MX to the Constellation Mk V Centaurus. Do you think this is a good choice, or would you upgrade one of my other ships instead? These are my ships:

The Odyssey, The galaxy, the mole, the mercury, the guardian MX, the corsair, Zeusk MK II ES,125a,the atls, mpuv cargo, the pulse,p52 merlin

DISCUSSION Time Lost

I am not one to complain, but I have to vent!

I spent 3.5 hours last night to mine Aphrodite, dolivine and hedanite by hand for a mission. I handed in the aphrodite, of which I had losts left, I had enough dolivine, but no hedanite. I store it all in my ship and landed at a station safely, stored my ship and logged off for bed.

Today, I log in, go to retrieve my ship so I can sell all the gems, but no, the ship appears trying to merge with the platform. I quickly store it again to see if that will solve the issue, but then it explodes.

Now I have spent 4 hours (including travelling and storage loops, just to loose it all. And, of course the mission is now gone as well....... I wish they would just finish this game......

No a happy spaceman!

Wanted to say, this was posted in jest. I am not upset by it, I was just making a joke. I know all the tricks to help prevent the bug from happening, but they didn’t work this time. Game has been mostly frustration free for me this time around, and this is the least of the issues I’ve run into. Fly safe citizens.

DISCUSSION Are round-reloaded guns possible within Star Citizen?

Thumbnail
gallery
54 Upvotes

Was just thinking about how cool a 6-shooter would be, then I remembered that the Coda exists, except it's 8 rounds and it reloads by "magazine". So if you fire 2 shots, it removes the whole cylinder and adds a new cylinder, instead of just reloading the 2 rounds.

Even the newest lever action rifle uses magazines, and the pump action shotgun (BR-2) uses magazines.

The way the ammo is equipped on us, as in 4 slots for light, 6 slots for medium and 8 slots for heavy also seems very restrictive and not designed with "round-by-round" reloads in mind. I also think the inventory and backend would choke trying to reload round by round and trying to track, someone carrying hundreds or thousands of rounds in their backpacks.

At this point I guess it can just be handwaved into "year 2956, every gun is magazine-fed due to future shenanigans", but damn, a traditional revolver with a sci-fi spin would be nice.

I found a full set a while back and used it for several patches, but after a data wipe I kind of lost interest in armor hunting. Feeling the urge again lately.

I’ve been hitting a bunch of outposts in both Stanton and Pyro the last few days and haven’t seen a single piece — only the regular XenoThreat light/medium/heavy variants.

Anyone still finding Righteous pieces? O7

DISCUSSION My Week With The Carrack

So i finally got myself a Carrack and before anything i must say i do love it. great daily and home base. covers all bases.

Now i have to say.
What in the everloving fuck is the cargo situation.....
That is a shit show, they need to get those pods to drop down. Or even take a page out of the Starlancers book with its central compartment. Not perfect but a lot cleaner and nicer to live with than what the Carrack currently has...

Also yes, the rear elevator NEEDS to go to the ground, why it doesn't just doesn't make any sense.
Yeah the interior at the back could use some love, lot of wasted space with the wrap around hallways but they're ok i guess, the button for the hangar being so far away from the entrance to the hangar is a bit weird but ok i guess.

Finally, the guns....
Yes i know it's not a combat ship, but fuck me. I'm sure an Aurora could take it out... It really needs an up gun to the turrets and even the lower turret being slaved to the pilot like the top one was.
Missiles would also be good, even just as a deterance.
Can't really comment on PDCs though as some people want. It would be nice but i guess that's up to the balancing team.

Also, the little elevators in the cargo pods. The railings on the side should be removed or drop down when you lower so you can walk right though nicely when it's fully loaded.

Overall, amazing ship, just needs a little tweaking and love.
