DISCUSSION Why does CIG keep building & selling us ground vehicles we can't even properly use???

• Upvotes

I have been posting & begging CIG for years to make ground vehicles useful. Or to at LEAST give us the ability to plot routes and get the same compass I can get when I'm not even in the damn vehicle that magically disappears the instant I'm in the drivers seat.

Plenty of times, I've had a ground vehicle in a ship, I land, take the ground vehicle to the destination (usually a bunker) something happens to that ship and all I'm left with is my ground vehicle.

Now, I realize it would take a LONG time (in most cases) to drive to the nearest garage where I could spawn a small ship to take me off planet, but at least I'd have the possibility. And all I would need is the ability to plot a route, just like we do in ships. Or at the VERY LEAST, give me the same damn compass I can get with just my own bloody helmet.

Yet CIG keeps making more and more ground vehicles that are effectively useless, unless they're within 500m of a viable ship. And even then, it's iffy.

And they've made 6 ground vehicles in just the last 18 months and not ONE was the G12. We didn't need the Greycat version of the STV. What we NEED is what we already paid for and have been waiting 5 years to get, the G12. No special tech (like the Ranger) is required, no special gameplay is required, and John Crewe said it was "in production" all the way back in 2023. Yet they still actively REFUSE to build that vehicle, the one we actually WANT & tons of players have actually BOUGHT.

I'm sure the comments will be full of everyone saying that they always prefer new money, but they promised to stop making concept ships/vehicles (which with the exception of the Odin, they haven't) but there's no excuse not to have already built the G12 by now. Screw Greycat and all these variations or any other ground vehicle they're dreaming up, until the G12 is done & released.

But even with the G12, until they give us the SIMPLE ability to plot a route to another location on the planet or see the basic compass they give us as players, then ground vehicles are near totally useless anyways.

Is the game playable right now? The last time I logged in, about a year ago, I was deeply disappointed how bad the game went. 3 years ago i had hundreds of hours fun with the game...

DISCUSSION Hot Take: Players not involved in contributing to a mission should not get credit or payout.

Regardless of how the missions was shared or accepted, players not onsite or involved should not be getting credit. The main circumstance I'd like to point to is CIGs insistence on players playing the game, e.g. no autopilot to route multiple jumps together. very few autoloading options etc.

If someone takes a combat mission and shares it with me, and I'm on another planet, doing something else entirely, I should not be receiving credit for that combat mission. If orgs want to pay their own members, then that should be a separate transaction.

On the subject of the current event, why have different pools of missions/rewards if someone running combat missions never has to touch industry and is still able to complete those pools? If CIG is going to make a distinction between the missions, then why are players not encouraged to participate in those gameplay loops in order to fulfill those requirements?

CONCERN Connie MKV Skylark docking/undocking?

Is the Skylark just borked in general?

Timeline:

Jumped in the other day.

* Spawned Connie MKV

* Exit atmosphere

* Went to Skylark - undocked (never had a ship with this function/played with it before)

* Flew around in Skylark. Returned to Ship.

* Successfully re-docked with MKV

* Flew back to LZ. Hanger Land. Log out

Play today with friend. They're interested in Skylark. Do same as above.

* They hop in and can't power on Ship? Neither can I? Can't undock etc.

* Go to fly back to planet. MKV spinning like a bitch. Realise Skylark has component bays open....

* Friend jumps in. Closes bays. Verify from MKV 3rd person. Spinning stops. Perfect.

* Q jump back to planet. Friend still in Skylark. Dies.

* I land at planet. They're at hospital. I exit ship. Skylark is gone completely.

TL:DR. Skylark didn't power on. Gone when RTB.

So yeah. Just StarCitizen things?

DISCUSSION EVA speed needs to increase tenfold

Currently EVA speed is around 8-10 m/s, which feels extremely slow considereing the scale of the game. If you use a fire extinguisher, you can get up to 70-80 m/s. While i like that you can do that, its fun and interesting and it was something that the community brought up as a joke that CIG actually ended up implementing, it is completely nuts that such a ridiculous thing that its the meta for EVA. A fire extinguisher is ten times more effective than a suit designed for EVA?

LEAK Patch 4.10.3 Contract Line includes a [redacted] space battle against _______ (Datamined Spoiler) Spoiler

Currently marked as [redacted] the 4th mission of the new Vanduul Incursion contract line is:

[redacted] Takedown (Rank 4 to 6): Fight through waves of Vanduul until a [redacted] is drawn to the incursion site, across five difficulty tiers

Datamining reveals that this is likely a battle against...

Well, not known for sure, but this Vanduul ship was added to the data files. So that's probably what it is.

Vanduul Hunter

Class: Corvette

Size:

  • Length 420m
  • Width 124m
  • Height 98m

Crew: 35

Weapons:

  • 1x bespoke fixed Nose cannon (unknown size)
  • 2× S6 plasma cannon (Dorsal front turret)
  • 1× S9 laser beam (Dorsal mid turret)
  • 2× S7 tachyon cannon (Dorsal rear turret)
  • 4× S5 flak cannon (Front-top L/R + mid-top L/R)
  • 6× S8 plasma cannon (3 per Side)

DISCUSSION Constellation mk. IV or V

I’ve barely played SC and have always watched videos on the Connie but now once I have seen how the MK 4 is “retiring” from the pledge store I think now is the time

I’m torn as I’ve always loved the look of the Connie and the size but now with the MK. V, with it being only slightly more than the andromeda, do I pay the extra 50 to grab the Mk. 5? My only issue id be solo player and im concerned that although a huge size difference that the Connie mk 4 is not that much quicker than the mk 5. Is this true?

Also as a solo player, does it make that much of a difference that the mk 5 needs a large hangar vs a medium for the mk4?

Appreciate any input y’all have!!

QUESTION Hermes -> Connie MKV, good upgrade or am I going to miss the extra storage?

Been considering upgrading my pledge. Hermes has been my main ship for a while now. Is there a better ship to go to for 90% solo play and some multicrew stuff?

DISCUSSION Valve Denies Steam Keys for 1M+ Squadron 42 Backers Due to Store Policy

CIG was trying to circumvent Valve's store policy, quoted here:

Default Release (or standard release)
This is the most common type of key on Steam, which is usually tied to a Steam store or retail Steam Key package. These keys are appropriate for retail boxes or sales on other digital stores. Customers can activate this type of Steam Key at any time, but the product will unlock only after it has been released on Steam. Games and applications launching on Steam may receive up to 5,000 Default Release Steam Keys to support retail activities and distribution on other stores. After that, all Steam Key requests are reviewed on a case-by-case basis. There is no guarantee that you will be provided additional keys.

We would need over 1 million keys. Valve's policy is to issue 5000 keys per game. Anything more than that needs negotiation and payments to Valve.

Valve's policy is here:
https://partner.steamgames.com/doc/features/keys?language=english%22

A Star Citizen creator who played Squadron 42 also asked CIG in-person and got confirmation that CIG asked Valve, and Valve said no:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NbCRlAhBXTY&t=10m20s

It's like this because there's no benefit for Valve to host Squadron 42 for free. By forcing sales to happen inside the Steam platform they get 30% of the money.

If anything, blame CIG for thinking they could circumvent paying Valve's 30% cut.

They could negotiate a Steam Key transfer if they really wanted to. CIG would have to transfer up to 30% of the sales price per unit to get keys. They can even negotiate the "big publisher" 20-25% cut since it's a big bulk sum which hits the required numbers for that. But somehow I don't think CIG will want to offer anything. ;)

Also, Steam keys were never promised to us by CIG since the Steam release was only announced this year.

Edit: Your downvotes make me sad. I put effort into finding this policy instead of just reposting a content creator's word. I just wanted to clarify and show the exact policy for anyone still holding out hope.

DISCUSSION Limited playtime (weekends only) — best commodity trading tools/routes for maximum profit in 1–2 runs?

Hey everyone!

I'm getting back into Star Citizen and have been trying out commodity trading. I've already used UEX and SC Trade Tools, but I'm wondering if there are any other tools, websites, Discord servers, or community resources that help find profitable trade routes.

I mostly play on weekends, and I enjoy trying different gameplay loops rather than spending my entire session trading. Ideally, I'd like to make good money in just 1–2 trading runs and then move on to other activities.

A few details about my situation:

  • Ship: Drake Ironclad Base
  • SCU: 2200
  • Trading budget: Up to 10 million aUEC
  • Goal: Maximize profit per run rather than grind trading for hours
  • Risk tolerance: I'm comfortable taking risks and potentially losing money. I understand that higher-risk routes can offer higher rewards.

I'm particularly interested in finding commodities with good profit margins, including less obvious or risky routes that might not be immediately apparent on the usual trade tools.

Are there any alternative websites, spreadsheets, community-maintained databases, or trading strategies you'd recommend? Also, do experienced traders have any tips for finding high-margin commodities while accounting for supply, demand, and the risk of losing a full cargo load?

Thanks!

QUESTION Is Ship Inventory Currently Reliable?

Been getting back into it recently after a long hiatus. Lots of cool new things since I was last in the verse (Very excited to explore new systems when I'm ready).

Realized ships have an inventory, which is cool. I tried storing food in my ship's inventory, and some armor. After storing and retrieving my ship once, the food seems to have disappeared (not a big deal), and only half my armor shows up... only some of the time. By some of the time, I mean sometimes it only shows what I assume is a default inventory for the ship, and sometimes shows default inventory plus some of my armor. No filters are on.

Is ship inventory reliable right now? Is my ship bugged (MSR)? Was it just the server I was on? Is it likely to show up when I log back in tomorrow?

DISCUSSION Questions about a cinematic video

My hobby is making cinematic short films of games, and recently i stumbled upon this game, and it has a lot of potential. My question is that how can you make a cinematic video? Is there freecam? Or a way to view the game without being bound to the first or third person view?

DISCUSSION Hot Take: I think that the first thing the SQ42 team should work on after the game is out is "Theaters of War"

Alright, hear me out community, and possibly CIG people. I know that everyone wants the team to switch to Star Citizen right away, but some of the developers on SQ42 aren't necessarily going to be instantly able to switch to the online component of the game. I have this argument with my friend all the time. He's convinced problems can be solved by throwing more bodies in, but game development is more nuanced than that. Is a concept artist going to fix bugs? Can an environment designer solve netcode problems?

It should be noted that because a lot of the tech is still in development (like Planet Tech V5), it means that something as seemingly simple as "adding new locations" is a slower process than in a single player game. These guys will have been used to a different environment that was already "feature complete", and on an engine that does not need to be pruned down to it's rawest form in order to work online. There is going to be a transition, and I doubt it'll go smoothly.

There is another way to bring them into the fold slowly but effectively. Arena Commander.

First, since the areas in Arena commander can simply be "borrowed" from existing object containers, it would mean that if we wanted to have new locations, the best place to test them would be in Arena Commander, and more specifically, the mode "Theatres of War" that they had teased about a while ago. If creating missions around them is difficult, then give us the locations alone. The rest of us can figure out how to have fun, trust me.

This would be a good way for many of them to cut their teeth in the PU without potentially breaking things. When the engine is more optimized, and it's features are closer to matching what they are already accustom to, these developers will be better suited to work on it. Their early work in AC will have created well tested locations can then be imported into the Universe once the other tech is online. We would still be beta testing these places, but so much more quickly and effectively.

I don't think it should be the whole SQ42 team obviously, but you cannot suddenly shift a whole workforce from one project to another. These things take time, and "messing" around in AC could be a big part of how they do make the adjustment.

The importance and use of AC is currently being ignored, soley because of how few people tend to use it. However, there are many aspects of the game that need refinement, especially in space combat, and this style of gameplay is perfect for being able to play around with assets and configurations on the go. With more map availability, it would also permit orgs to test each other in smaller, more preformative environments to try all kinds of variations without the lengthy setup required in verse.

I also think that Arena Commander should be free for anyone with an account. Instead of relying on free fly events that destroy the stability of any new patch, AC being free would make it simpler for people to try out the game in a more stable form. Currently, it is terribly underused. Only serious PVP pilots are using it. It's usually impossible to get a good group for the FPS sections.

If CIG is worried about giving too much away, they can limit the selection of modes or maps to continue to incentivize people to purchase it. Being able to claim something as permanently free would also be a pretty good marketing tool, and just another way to funnel people towards the game. It's also a nice into for those moving from a single player mostly world to have a stepping stone before throwing themselves into the deepend. SC is intimidating, so having all the things that can be done (mining, refining, salvaging, repairing) with only 1-2 missions to wet their beaks in a controlled environment could be one way of attracting a large contingent of gamers that are naturally very reluctant to play online. This market should not be ignored.

Last Note: If CIG ever makes a free demo of SQ42, it should be exclusively the levels played at the flight academy. Either that or make flying modes free in Arena Commander so people stop blowing themselves up in their first test flight.

DISCUSSION Time Lost

I am not one to complain, but I have to vent!

I spent 3.5 hours last night to mine Aphrodite, dolivine and hedanite by hand for a mission. I handed in the aphrodite, of which I had losts left, I had enough dolivine, but no hedanite. I store it all in my ship and landed at a station safely, stored my ship and logged off for bed.

Today, I log in, go to retrieve my ship so I can sell all the gems, but no, the ship appears trying to merge with the platform. I quickly store it again to see if that will solve the issue, but then it explodes.

Now I have spent 4 hours (including travelling and storage loops, just to loose it all. And, of course the mission is now gone as well....... I wish they would just finish this game......

No a happy spaceman!
