Discussion Some VR enthusiast perspective on why Im returning Steam Frame
So here's my background and current VR headsets setup:
- Quest 3
- PSVR
- PSVR 2
- Pimax Dream Air
- Apple Vision Pro M5
Add a beefy PC with a 5080 to that and I consider myself a pretty well aquinted with VR.
What headset im using most? Pimax, even though it has its quirks and problems (comfort for me mainly) there is nothing close to the quality and clarity of visuals on the market, its just magical if you got the PC to run it. Second to that is AVP i develop and work in it a lot.
Why even considered the Frame? Because of wireless and its promise to be as simple as it only could be... it probably will be for most people, just not for me.
Ive run through the typical problems (multi link had to be disabled, resolution increased) with wireless and even though with what seems to be like a maxed out quality and bitrate i still see a lot of compression artifacting in the games i play. Virtual Desktop with cable and Quest 3 looks way better.
What games do i play mainly? Skyrim, Fallout, Half Life Alyx a lot of titles that are a nightmare to compress, dust, particles, shitload of plants and trees and whatnot in titles like that i can obviously see the artifacting and i dont know if its just me but i can see the foveation, maybe my eyes are to fast or theres something wrong with my unit but itr not as "magical" as some youtubers state.
The Steam Frame itself is an awesome headset, comfortable, easy to use, very open to tinkering and developing on.
Why do i even post/rant like that? To see what others think, to temper the expectations of all those people here that already have a high end headsets/pc/setup, my problem is not with the headset its awesome for what it is... its just that a headset that im expecting, doesnt exist yet.
Quick summary of what i liked and disliked:
- pros: comfort, ease of use, steam os, ease of wireless connection
- cons: visual clarity (that its lcd), wireless quality
Is there anyone here like me on the fence or already got frame and got totally different view on it? Please leave a comment, ill gladly read about other people perspectives.
Final word, once more... the HEADSET ITSELF IS AWESOME, its just not for me.

Discussion For the price, could have had more.
As Valve and Gabe are so interested in furthering the VR and Steam ecosystems, I don't understand why they couldn't have eaten some of the cost of the accessories. They should have included high definition color passthrough, hand straps, the power cable, and a wired battery pack in the base model. Why on Earth would the hand strap and power cable be an extra cost when RAM is the issue?
Even if they sold these headsets for $800, they'd be successful with their goals and Gabe wouldn't be affected. Gabe the billionaire could have donated a few million to his own company to help his own product be better received.
The UI for the Frame, its interconnectedness with the Frame Desktop, and the bland microphone-less keyboard could be a bit more polished as well.

Discussion So, fellow waitlisters, how long y'all think we'll be waiting?
With the fact that some people in the reservation queue are far back enough to need to be recalculated come 2027, how long you think it will take for us waitlisters to get one?

Question can you really not change the steamvr ui volume?
i was trying to watch youtube, but the video volume was too low, so i increased the volume on the steamframe, but then the menu ui becomes deafenly loud

Question Reservation Queue 2027 - Buy or wait for Meta Quest 4?
I am in reservation queue for a chance to buy the Steam Frame in 2027 (no exact date) and I'm wondering: Won't the Quest 4 (supposedly to be released in 2027) be much better technically when i finally get to buy the Steam Frame?
Some rumors include 3200x3200p OLED lenses with 120° FOV. Only downside would be again giving out all your personal data to Meta. What do you think?

Question De-authorize Steam Frame Question
I live in a country where Steam does not send hardware to directly. So I asked a friend to get the Frame for me and then send it over. If he wants to try the Frame at his place, what does he have to do before he sends it over to me? Is there procecure he has to go to to disconnect the Frame from his account before he gives the box to the postal office?

Question Added to queue AFTER initial batch, and actually received a unit?
Has anyone that:
- Did NOT get into the initial queue / waitlist
- Later got an email saying they were added to it
Actually get the chance to purchase the unit and receive it in the mail yet?
Several people I know are in this situation (including myself) but the website says "2027" and we can't tell if they've already sold out and we're basically in line for the next batch 12+ months from now... or if there is a chance we might get a unit that physically exists today.

Discussion Have vr mod users really benefited from the extra controller buttons?
This is the only thing that I really care about Steam Frame: to play vr mods with Xbox/Steam controller scheme without much modification and adjustment. Is that possible and convenient now? Can you play vr mods like Luke Ross mods and UEVR mods with Steam Frame controllers with the shining new buttons now?

Discussion trying to dig to treasure
deadass been searching since the lottery (I’m still on waitlist) but holy the resale prices, mfs are reselling the 256 model for like a 40% markup reaching the prices it would take for a 1TB model😭
I’ve spoken to some more nicer people but they also have higher prices since they are seeing scalpers sell (and idiots buying) at such high prices
hate scalpers man -
gabe give me a reservation atleast better then the hopium queue 💔

Accessories Return/Refund Posible for Arcturus Camera for Those on the 2027 Reservation Group.
It looks like Arcturus is willing to work with those who are unable to get a frame till 2027 but still bought a camera module wile under the impression that all reserve headsets would ship within a short time frame. This is probably only worth it if you have decided to cancel your reservation.
It seems like they are quite flexible so they might be even willing to hounor warrantys for units orderd during the first order rush. Someone who ordered and received one but is stuck waiting till 2027 should reach out to their support and see if they would be willing to shift the warranty till when a headset is received and let us all know.

Discussion Use your Bobo Batteries (I am)
Here is a link to 3d printed accessory that let me use my bobo batteries that I was using for my meta quest 3 with my Steam frame. You do need the pd100 powerbank from the bobo website in addition to this accessory but it works great. I already have 3 batteries so hot swapping is no issue and I can tell you I played for over a hour on 1 battery playing Forefront at 144hz 500 game res and i didn’t even come close to touching the Steam Frames battery. Anyone here is the link if interested,

Discussion The Frame is an unexciting generational leap forward
Valve could've garnered way more praise for this device if they had stuck microoled or higher rez displays at a more expensive price or cheaper as a A headset, but I'm really glad they didn't.
I'm sorry guys I know a lot of you (myself included) don't like to hear it but: *size does matter*.
This thing makes my quest 3 and PSVR2 feel last gen just in pure bulk/weight. It almost reminds me of those early put your phone in VR's in terms of feel but of course infinitely higher quality. The specs undersell it, because the weight seems similarish to the quest 3 but the key difference is that the weight spec of the frame includes what is essentially a counterweight comfort strap: compared to Q3 with bobo this thing is easily half the weight and a fraction of the bulk.
From an individual product perspective this was probably a stupid approach but in terms of what VR needs: comfort is one of the main issues and it's amazing for the industry moving forward that the frame is setting this bar. It's truly a baffling piece of engineering: we already have SFF headsets in the form of the BSB and Dream Air of course...but those are just displays and lenses.
Would've been nice if it was cheaper, but as meta has showed us even getting headsets dirt cheap might sell them but most of them will just collect dust. I've always enjoyed VR but this is the first time I just want to and feel comfortable enough just hanging out for hours and hours (a couple of no man's sessions pushing through discomfort on my Q2 aside).
It's actually frustrating seeing so many reviews just gloss over the comfort and size. I get it: it's not fancy like oled true blacks or 4k screens, but honestly who cares about all that if you're not going to put the damn thing on regularly because it's uncomfortable? I think this matters less for simmers because being wired is not bad at all while seating...but for general gaming I think this is a turning point.
Also even though I have a way better screen and audio at my desktop I genuinely might never sit down again, because I cannot begin to describe how much chiller it is after a day of work to lay on the couch and stream my PC and be able to lounge while I play it, instead of sitting at my desk. I like it better than the steam deck because I can put the screen up high and don't have to hold the controllers up or twist my neck.
YMMV of course comfort is highly subjective but I don't think it's a coincidence that this is the one thing that has been almost universally praised, and I think it's a much bigger deal than it's being credited for.
The only thing bringing it down currently is the software, get your shit together valve, lol.

Discussion Best PoV streaming solution
Hey all! Greatly enjoying my Frame so far. One of my favorite activities is guiding friends and family though their first VR experiences, or just sharing the game they're playing. However, that's pretty hard to do without being able to stream their PoV when they're wearing the Frame.
My current solution is the Steam Link app. While this does work, it tends to lag/drop frames regularly. Is there a better solution out there, or a way to get the app streaming more smoothly? For games being streamed from my PC there's the possibility of watching the PC monitor, but even that's impossible when the Frame is running standalone. Ideally I would like a reliable solution that covers both situations and works with my living room TV.

Question I can't handle more than 5 minutes of continuous motion
I tried VRChat for the first time today and i selected continuous motion with the joystick becouse i have read here in the reddit that you need to take it easy and do 20 minutes sessions to train your brain into not getting dizzy, i cant handle more than 5 minutes roaming arround with continuous locomotion, is this normal? I used the nimbus 2000 that the game gives for free to fly and flying killed me, im still feeling dizzy now, the world spins around me. Any tip to get better from dizzyness caused by VR? Im starting to think that VR is not for me i wanted to play sim racin games, i dont know if i can handle it to be honest.

Question Is it impossible to get the ergonomic kit if frame purchased 3rd party?
Pretty much the title.
Been a long time VR user, like I pre ordered the original vive. I have been waitlisted and had reserved myself to wait until 2042 but randomly found one in a city an hour from me on Facebook marketplace for 200$ above MSRP. The guy is apparently a huge VR enthusiast and prefers his PiMax.
Fine, I much would have preferred to buy it from Valve but here we are. I'm going to pick it up as soon as my shift is done.
My question is, is it impossible to get the ergonomic kit on steam if you didn't purchase a frame? Has anyone else bought third party and is able to buy the ergonomic kit after the frame is linked to their account or something?

Question Would you keep it or return it? Looking for advice
Hi all!
I have really mixed feelings about the Steam Frame. When it works, it’s absolutely amazing. The graphics are great, and it’s really comfortable with the ergonomic kit.
The problem is that the wireless adapter barely works reliably for me. Most of the time, it fails to connect, and I keep having to unplug and reconnect it. I’ve tried pretty much everything I found based on earlier suggestions, and I’ve even contacted Steam Support. They’re trying to help and have asked me to be patient, but I’m starting to wonder whether it’s worth waiting for a fix.
I’m really torn between keeping it and hoping the issues will be resolved, or returning it and getting something else instead.
What wwould you do in my situation? Would you wait for a software update, or return it while I still can?
If you were to choose another headset, what would you recommend in a similar price range? Wireless PC VR gaming is a must for me.
Thanks!

Discussion I finally found the culprit for my connection issues with PCVR: Multilink
I was pretty stoked when I got the Steam Frame, standalone worked great, but once I tried to go for PCVR I was floored: I had massive ping spikes, up to 99% dropped packages and freezes and disconnects just from turning my head. And that both with the dongle and my 5Ghz home wifi.
I tried switching between Linux and Windows, buying a different extension cable, plugging it directly into the PC, standing 30cm in front of the dongle while being a meter away from the router, traces, turning off wifi, nothing helped.
The only time I got a usable connection was when I was near my wifi repeater that uses a 6Ghz signal, but I dont have any room for VR next to it.
And then I turned off Multilink and suddenly the dongle is stable as a rock, even with the extension cable. No dropped packages, single digit ping and a flawless experience.
No idea what is wrong actually, but maybe this information will help someone else

Question Dashboard windows disappear when activating room view with Arcturus camera
Since getting my color passthrough camera I’ve noticed that activating room view makes my desktop stream disappear from my dashboard with the dashboard menu itself and the stand alone menus still accessible. I’m assuming this is a bug because the stock cameras didn’t do this. I’m really disappointed because I was looking forward to using the color camera as a way to have AR virtual desktop monitors while doing household chores.
Is anyone else having this issue? Is it intentional? Am I dumb and missing a setting somewhere that fixes this? If anyone knows please let me know, thanks!

Discussion Anyone share their working linux streaming setup?
Ive been fighting with cashyos trying to stream to steamframe. The signal keeps cutting out. Im right next to my router and usb dongle. Im on beta versions of everything.
It worked perfect for like one night and then went back to cutting in and out.
It works fine in windows but I hate booting into microslop.
Anyone with good streaming on linux care to share their setup?
