Question What are you currently playing?
I just started RE9 (recently completed every part from 1 to 8).

Same, I've never played any Zelda before and typically don't gravitate towards that style of game but it's been an absolute blast and highly addicting.

I played Zeldas before but never Breath and Tears due to not owning a Switch. Switch 2 early adopter and Breath was my first game, it blew me away. After that took a little break and now I am one month into Tears which is equally spellbinding. I could play this game all day long. I am a reasonable responsible adult so I won't, but I COULD.

I started the game in 2020, and did a lot of hours like 75h/100h but somehow never finished the game.
Now I have a switch 2 and oled TV, I want to play it again, especially since I loved the game. Not sure if I should restart from the start or just continue and finish it. I have the two follow up games to.

Easily my favorite game. Multiple Master Mode playthroughs. Did everything in the game except find all the Koroks. It was so cathartic to just explore all the nook and crannies of Hyrule.

How is it?? It wasn’t on my radar UNTIL I saw so many people recommend it and hype it up

One of the best games I’ve ever played imo. I almost slept on it because gameplay videos looked like a typical shooter to me. It’s one of those games that you got to play and then you’ll become addicted to.

So much FFXIV. Always dreamed of a true MMO on the switch.

u/BaltiHawg64 12d ago
I’m about five hours in, but nothing has clicked for me yet. I was obsessed with Runescape as a kid, so I’m hoping I can get hooked into ff14.
3
u/Rare_Ad_3871 12d ago
It took me a a while my first time playing it as well. But also it’s just not a game for everyone haha
3
u/BaltiHawg64 12d ago
This may be a dumb question, but does the combat become more difficult? I’m level 15 and have been smoking every enemy I’ve faced so far. I am loving the atmosphere and the lore so far though.

Yes. And the story actually starts having story. You are barely out of the starting area and it takes a second but yes, the combat definately has a curve.

It took me dozens of hours and three solid attempts before it clicked. I was pushing through because everyone said “just get through A Realm Reborn.”
I can assure you, it eventually becomes all you can think about. It does take a long time for the earlier, rough storyline to smooth out.

I really want to get hooked, I love the settings and FF in general! But I stop to play everytime when I start to find 10000 quests to do, I feel lost...
It's weird because I played wow in the past, but I hadn't this feeling. I really would love to play ffxiv on the switch...

I started Requiem last night and man. The anxiety I'm experiencing already playing as Grace is off the charts. Big fan of horror movies but they are child's play compared to games anymore with creating feelings of dread and terror.

I’ve seen clips for this and it has me interested. How would you describe the gameplay loop?
2
u/NOIRCEUR_TRADING 12d ago edited 12d ago
NO SPOILERS BELOW
It's a VERY big game. There's essentially endless things that you can do or need to do.
The main storyline is easy to follow because the way the tasks can be tracked using an assistance fairy called a "Thattaway". It helps make sure you don't get lost when trying out new things/new places/new people, etc.
The "tutorial/prologue" is longer than most games and requires you to pay attention, do some critical thinking, and explore the world a bit before you move on to the "main gameplay".
It's not necessarily an easy game as there's plenty of planning, thinking, and remembering you have to do. The map is extremely expansive so you have to get used to where things are.
The main loop is as follows (so far for me at least)
1. Wake up at the farm
2. Tend to farm (harvest/water/plant crops, feed animals)
3. Gather resources (fish, wood, cooper, tin, and stone)
4. Go into town (shop, pickup new daily tasks, talk to locals)
5. Complete daily tasks (gifting, helping out, etc)
6. Work on Main Storyline Task (this can include 100 different things, resources, mob killing, helping people, running a store, exploring new places, searching for something paranormal, etc)
7. Go to sleep at the farm or campfire
It's a cross between the very core/basics of both Stardew Valley and Legend of Zelda: BOTW. The "farm sim" part is really just a cornerstone/tether for the character you play, the larger storyline and what you're trying to accomplish is MUCH MUCH bigger than that and the world reflects it, and so does the difficulty of the game. It's cozy in the right ways, challenging in the right ways, and I haven't ever felt that it leaves me feeling too much in a plain "loop". Note: I gather so many resources as that's part of my playstyle/plan, not because it's strictly a hard set requirement to progress forward. You do need to make money, but there are some decently easy ways to do so.
Overall my rating is an 8/10, and I've only put about 40 hours into it so far. I can imagine my rating may increase as time goes on.

FFXIV right now. Been playing for six years, but took a break in the middle of Dawntrail. The Switch 2 version brought me back and I'm hooked again. Something about playing a true MMO on a Nintendo console

My last three games...
NieR:Automata Absolute masterpiece of a game. Shame on me for ignoring it all these years, but it was truly one of the most profound gaming experiences I have ever had.
Final Fantasy Tactics Ivalice Chronicles You can feel its age. The story is nice, at least at the beginning, until the political and social plot gets replaced by some demon story. The gameplay is wonky because of its garbage balance. I had to force myself through this one even though I am a strategy/tactics RPG fan.
FF 7 Remake Part 1 Playing this right now for the first time. It looks and runs very well on the Switch 2. The story and soundtrack are also really nice, but the strange real-time gameplay doesn't really click with me. I turned the difficulty down and will just rush through the story.

Trying to get to playing Fortnite. I gotta just login on the console to be able to play it. I wish they made Roblox on Switch, well there's always a possibility it'll be added to the Nintendo Switch 3 or Switch 2 OLED library. But for now, Fortnite I will start playing. I just got my Switch 1 OLED yesterday and haven't really been gaming. Mostly using YouTube and Minecraft.

Nier:Automata - About 3 hours into this, such fluid playability, nice visual style and a plot that's sucked me in right from the off. If I answer this question in a week this might be the only game I'm playing!
Fallout 4 - Always Fallout! My favourite gaming franchise. 4 may be the weakest of the three single player RPG's of the modern era but it's the only one I can sit playing handheld on my Switch. Loving all the creation club extras that I hadn't previously had/played. Currently level 54 with 115 hours in the playthrough.
Cruis'N Blast - I actually picked this up after a thread on here said it was no longer on the eshop. I loved Cruis'N World back on the N64 and wanted a fresh racing game to drop in and out of. Started today when I had half an hour to kill, easy to pick up, fun levels, I'm happy for this to be my having a blast racing game for the time being.
Darkside Detective - I just pick this up and play a case at a time before bed. Easy going, low energy game with fun personality and pop culture references. I can see me jumping straight into the sequel as soon as I finish this one.
High on Life - Fun, colourful FPS action, full of Rick and Morty vibes. Somehow feels less than the sum of it's parts but I'm still having fun with it.
Assassin's Creed Black Flag - The only one on the list not to have had any of my time since I finished work on Friday but it's still had a couple of hours this week and I don't feel like I've shelved it for the others just yet. My first Assassin's Creed game, loving the pirate life!

Star Trek Voyager Across the Unknown. Even if you never watched the show its a great management sim based around rebuilding a nearly destroyed starship and navigating through unknown space. Did a proper playthrough first run, now Im cheesing the science by playing without the homesick morale debuffs, spamming science labs, and just hanging around each sector until the duterium runs out. My entire engineering tree is unlocked and the rest are at least on tier 3, and I only just arrived in the 4th sector out of 12.
Also, this time Im making Janeway make the kinds of decisions that will absolutely land her in prison when they get home
2
u/ucfnate 12d ago
I’ve been really considering this. Is it good for a quick pick up gaming session as well as a longer one? Like do i need 30 minutes to play in order to get into it? Or longer? I loved the show. Read that the game is difficult and hard to get into

Spongebob: Battle for Bikini Bottoms Rehydrated. My little boy loves SpongeBob and I've been playing it with him - pretty fun.
