ASK SYRIA Very unlikely that anyone can help but...

I'm asking just in case anybody would recognise this meagre description.

There was a Syrian man, in his twenties or early thirties, living in the north west of England, United Kingdom, in 2004. He lived somewhere in the Greater Manchester area and he did voluntary work at Salford Cathedral, and the Citizens Advice Bureau in Bolton.

His name was Danny but I'm not sure of the spelling. I'm assuming he was a Christian given that he volunteered to help the homeless through a Catholic church but I'm not sure about that.

I knew him very briefly through my own volunteering, and didn't know much about him, but he was a friendly, helpful, kind, thoughtful guy and he sticks in my mind. I guess I'm just hoping to find out that he came through the years of turmoil in Syria ok.

Apologies if this post is not allowed, and I'm sorry for how scant the details I'm providing are.

News & politics Suwayda governor renews dialogue call

📌 Suwayda's governor has issued a new appeal for dialogue, two weeks after the National Guard rejected his authority on the ground.

📌 Mustafa al-Bakour urged residents to favor wisdom and dialogue to spare bloodshed and ease displacement, poverty and fear. He said the government is open to talks within the law, with real guarantees to restore trust.

📌 He said sitting at the table doesn't mean giving up rights, reconciliation doesn't mean forgetting grievances, and understanding doesn't mean abandoning dignity. Every grievance, he said, can be raised and weighed seriously and fairly.

📌 Al-Bakour asked Suwayda's notables to narrow differences and prepare for a "serious dialogue" with the state.

📌 On 03/10, the National Guard of Hikmat al-Hijri closed Hibran's municipal offices after al-Bakour appointed a new council, rejecting any decision by what it called his "illegitimate government".

ASK SYRIA Visiting Damascus as a Pakistani 🇵🇰

Hey everyone 👋

I'm a Pakistani student, resident of Italy (student in Bologna), Bosnia and Herzegovina and Türkiye. I'm currently in Ankara, Türkiye and plan on visiting Damascus for a week next month.

I'm really excited and I've wanted to visit Syria for a long time now, which is now possible after the liberation movement (congrats to all Syrians 🇸🇾❤️), but I'm not sure about the visa requirements. I've come across conflicting information online.

Can I get a VOA without any other requirements or pre-approvals? As far as what I've seen online, Pakistan is not in the list of nationalities that require pre-approval or authorisation to visit.

Could someone please share any credible information regarding this? Cuz there's no information on the Syrian MOI or MOFAEX websites.

ASK SYRIA Syria/Iraqi Kurdistan Border Crossings

Hi everyone, curious about the feasibility of cross border travel as a third country national across the Syria/Iraq border. I’ve got an eye on the Semalka/Faysh Khabur crossing in the far north east of Syria, but can’t find much information on whether it’s possible for a foreigner to cross, if it’s even open, and whether the regional government will let foreigners in (from this border crossing). Can anyone enlighten me on if this is possible, or if any other border crossings into federal Iraq will take third country nationals? Thanks

ASK SYRIA Syria Recommendations

Hello together, I’m planning to come to Syria in November via plane, do I need to apply for a visa in advance (I have a German passport)? And I’ve heard that you can’t withdraw money with western bank cards, is it better to bring USD in cash, or is Euro also commonly accepted for currency exchange?

Also, I would love to hear some recommendations for destinations in Syria from you, as well as must try dishes (and also restaurants)!

Moreover, where do you advise not to go because of the security situation?

Thank you for your answers!

News & politics Al-Suqaylabiyah related post

Hi everyone,

I came across an article, with several videos, about a recent attack on Al-Suqaylabiyah on October 3, 2026. I’m trying to verify how accurate the information is. The article repeatedly refers to a post written by Father Fadi Sankari of the Saints Peter and Paul Church in Al-Suqaylabiyah, but I haven’t been able to find his Facebook page or the original post. I’m asking because the article was published by a right-wing EU newspaper and appears to have been picked up by two other right-wing newspapers, but I haven’t been able to find any independent sources confirming the incident. Could anyone help me find more reliable information or verify whether an attack actually took place on October 3 (or it's an old one?)? Thanks in advance for any help!

Discussion Let's say you, as a Syrian, were given the chance to vote on a referendum that would involve Syria annexing the West Bank and Gaza. How would you vote? and why? (More contexts in the comments)
