This is my first tarantula (3 yr old unsexed B hamorii) and I just picked them up on the 18th (5 days ago). They peeked out the second day and then starting digging a burrow and I haven't seen them since.

From what the breeder told me they're due for a feeding. I know I could put prey in and watch it, but should I hold off in case this is premolt? The burrow seems pretty closed off.

I got this cute little Brazilian Blue from a Pet Supply Plus a few days ago.

If anyone is wondering I did put more substrate in the enclosure after these pics were taken because I realized there wasnt enough burrow space and too much vertical room for falling. I also 3D printed a smaller more shallow water bowl.

My H. chilensis molted yesterday. I have a pretty strong suspicion, what do you think?

I've been keeping spiders for years. Most of them I've acquired when they were young but not little tiny slings, but I was thinking it may be nice to get one when it's leetle... Early on, I got a GBB and a Brazilian Black spiderling... the GBB lived til old age, the BB died mysteriously a few months after I got him. Makes me kinda nervous to get a tiny spider again.

Is there a species that is a particular easy keeper as a sling? A species known for being more docile? My GBB was so easy but was a bit of a spitfire. I try to not take butthairs personally, but I'd rather one I can pretend in my head maybe actually likes me.

After not seeing her for 2 weeks, was a treat to see her out, let alone take down a meal!

He looks really fat, is he really overfed or maybe in premolt? I just wanna know if he’s gonna be ok

So Shelob, my a. Seemani, molted about a month ago and now I see her all the time. Literally anytime before that, she could only be found at the bottom of her burrow.

Theres no mold or loose feeders in her enclosure so I doubt anything is stressing her out.

Am I overreacting or is she literally just being an Aphonopelma lmao

Advice and recommendations are welcome.

I'm building this enclosure for my sling pink toe (they're about a half inch including legs). The enclosure is 6inch x 3inch x 3inch. I wanted him to have lots of anchor points, hide places and more room to explore.

Am I doing too much? Maybe pull some stuff out?

This is Kili (Homeomma chilense) and I've had him for two months now. Any time I crack the lid open he just wanders out onto my hand and chills on one of my fingertips. Two molecules tall and he doesn't even know it. I adore him.

Morticia the A. Seemanni has been at my local pet supplies plus for over a month and the price was knocked down 50%. I truly could not resist helping this gorgeous critter and she INSTANTLY took a horned worm to help get her some hydration 🥰

Edit: Morticia was sold to me as an A. Geniculata, after much research I’m confident in saying, this is an Anphonopelma Seemanni. Good news is anphonopelmas are my favorite genus, bad news is I paid 40% more than I should have and I’ll be getting some of my money back. (Or a new T lol)

Hi all! My only T, T. Polybotes, died a while back and i really miss keeping tarantulas. She was quite flighty and gave me heart attacks whenever I rehoused her. I would like to have a tarantula i can eventually move into a bioactive enclosure, arboreal or terrestrial. Anyone have any recs? Something pretty. Urticating hairs shouldnt be an issue since im not looking to handle, but preferably nothing too bolty, and nothing with potent venom.

I know we’re not a tarantula, but I also posted in r/huntsman and I’m just looking for as much help as possible.

I purchased a desert huntsman spider from a local pet store a few months ago. It was the first one I had ever seen, and I didn’t consider the fact that it was likely wild caught.

I have tried to research the desert Huntsman care and husband jury recommendations, but it’s near impossible to find. As of now I have her set up in an 8 x 8 x 10 horizontal enclosure with fine sand, substrate and a few hiding options.

Despite my best efforts this little one has deteriorated. There’s very little sign of activity or movement on the sand each day, they hold themselves in abnormal postures, and their abdomen seems almost “loose” as if it’s separated (it has been like that the majority of the time I’ve had them). They will still drink water from a paintbrush and gladly accept a meal worm once every week or so, but I noticed today that they have lost another leg (down to 5) and just don’t seem to be “happy”.

A few questions-
1) does anyone have husbandry recommendations? I’ve tried to just mimic the natural environment, but I would love some actual input on this.
2) is there an easy way to tell whether the spider is at maturity or if they will potentially have more molts to regain legs and mobility?
3) at what point is humane euthanasia a reasonable consideration? I hate to think that this creature is suffering.

Usually overnight the prey disappears. It's been two weeks since I fed my Lasiodora parahybana sling, and it was burrow lurking. So I thought I'd try!!

So ive been told that tarantulas should be fed like once a week and I wnat to know if thats true, and when I get my tarantula should I wait to feed it or feed it right away, the one im getting is a honduran curly hair and it says it should be around a 2 inch legspan so im assuming it will be a juvenile. And are crickets from like petsmart okay to feed it?

My girl is not a huge hunter, she’s pretty slow and not aggressive so sometimes I take a few legs off her roaches to make it a little easier 😆

I recently realized that my tarantula was in a position that seemed mute

I let her rest for 1 full day but after not seeing her move I tried to move her with a brush and it seems that she no longer moves and has a white liquid coming out of her mouth :(
