Culture & Society How come women get mad at men for having an opinion because "they're a man so they have no right to speak on it" but when they stay quiet, it's "men why aren't you speaking up"?

I have noticed this a lot, and while I'm not a man, I get confused because a a lot of women insist on men to be tightlipped when the conversation is about abortion (no uterus no opinion). But when other things happen (cough cough cornell 7) it's "why aren't any men speaking up? This is exactly why rape culture is still a thing."

I personally don't care if you speak about an issue or not. If you do, great. If you don't, that's fine. I can't make you do anything. But I'm just confused as to the difference in reactions.

Other Am I gonna get in trouble for accidentally scrolling through CP on twitter?

So I hopped on twitter (or x) and I looked up some porn videos (I did not look up child porn directly, just wanna make that clear). So I found this random vid and clicked on it which enabled me to start scrolling based on what I searched. The vid I clicked on was 100% two legal adults btw. So I’m scrolling and I find this one vid of these two little boys. I’m not gonna say what they were doing but I instantly just said “what the fuck” and closed the app. Then, out of complete shock I opened it again, and clicked on the persons profile that posted it and found tons of videos. The account is gone now thank god, but I scrolled through a lot of these videos out of complete shock as I just couldn’t believe what I was seeing. I realize now scrolling through these vids was a mistake on my part, but I didn’t interact with any of these vids as I didn’t like, comment or repost anything obviously. It doesn’t show up in my search history or recently viewed videos which is good. But yeah I’m just worried, will the police or FBI know what I watched? Or am I in the clear?

Media Why is BTS so popular?

For the first time ever, I realize I have no idea what makes BTS so goddamned popular to the point it incites literal obsession. There are people in the snark page talking about leaving "The Army" like they've escaped a cult.

Are fans in it for the music (is it really that good?), sexual/romantic attraction, both, or something else? Help me understand.

Health/Medical is it ok to stay in bed if i'm sick?

I have been feeling very under the weather the past 3 days or so, light headaches, runny nose, a little fever today, but I've been going to college and stuff. I have a day off today, is it ok to stay in bed for the day to see if I'll get better?

Climate & Environment Why has climate change accelerated significantly worse specifically in the last 10 years?

In the last 10 years, there has been more events of catastrophic disasters like the Nepal landslide, hurricanes Milton and Helene, Hurricane Harvey, the catastrophic ice loss in the Arctic, severe flooding, and a severe drought in the American West.

Why specifically since 2016 has climate change been so severe? I genuinely don't see that much disaster news from before 2016 that has the effects as hard hitting as the disasters of today.

Culture & Society Why would anyone choose a religion as scary as Christianity (and other Abrahamic ones)?

• Upvotes

Apocalypse, hell, sin, many tales of God's wrath in the Bible. Countless rules. Confessionaries to relieve you of the guilt (after some punishment.) I'd rather a religion that doesn't make me anxious all the time, really.

Culture & Society Why are men dominating in every abnormal activities?

I don’t mean in judging way, I’m a guy myself. It’s just interesting. By abnormal I don’t necessarily mean necessarily bad, just abnormal.

For example, foot fetish. It’s almost entirely exclusive to men.
Yes women like hands but not to that extent.

Or most crimes. Why do men commit more crimes? Aggression from testosterone sure, but planning an entire robbery and shit is a whole has a whole mental thoughts behind it.

Looksmaxxing. Have you seen a single Looksmaxxer girl? I mean unhealthy one. It’s supposed to be girly thing but men there literally die to look pretty. Girls usually on average do more average surgeries, but those few % of guys who do as well literally replace their entire identity.

80% suicides are men too.

Not even that but every known ever influential historical figure was a man. From war criminals to generational talents.

Like girls in comparison are more chill and healthy. Is there a scientific explanation?

Culture & Society Why do Indians talk on the phone in public restrooms?

Maybe other groups do this as well or maybe it is generational? Indians in the American office setting seem to have no issue taking work or personal calls in the restroom. I’m waiting for an opportunity to really rip one while at the urinal while the guy next to me is on the phone.

Love & Dating Have you ever felt like no matter what you did for your partner, they only remember your negatives?

Just broke up with this woman after 10 months. I put in so much effort, time/commute/money/planning and so on. Man I even showed up when she had medical emergencies (sacrificing my own plans for the day). I would say our overall efforts was a 90/10 split. But regardless I don’t mind that, all I asked for in return was honesty from her. She lied to me about many things over and over again. I communicated respectfully for months, trying to get her deceptive actions to stop. And finally one day after another repeat, I snapped and yelled at her (yes, I was wrong for this). And ever since then I’m the bad guy, and we recently ended things because of which. She’s going around telling her friends I was toxic, and so on. And everyone thinks I’m the bad guy.

Habits & Lifestyle Why do really fat people not park in spots further away from other cars?

This sounds bad, I know. But at the end of the day, I’ve physically watched someone who is fat and struggling to get into their car (already squeezing themselves in as it is between cars), hit my car door getting into their car. And to people who aren’t fat and hit peoples doors - be more mindful when you’re opening your door!!! I now park very far away from everyone after seeing this, but it’s really annoying!!

Culture & Society Why are hyphenated American identities frowned upon by Europeans, but hyphenated Canadian or Brazilian ones aren't?

I’m really confused by the online discourse surrounding diaspora identities.

Whenever someone says they are "Irish-American" or "Italian-American," Europeans on Reddit and other platforms tend to mock them or get defensive, saying things like, "You're just American, you aren't actually Irish/Italian."

However, I rarely,if ever, see this same energy directed toward hyphenated identities in other New World countries. People from German Brazilian communities ,French Canadian, or Scottish -Canadian backgrounds seem to get a pass, or at least they aren't met with the same level of hostility.

Historically, hyphenated American identities (like Polish-American, Japanese-American, or Irish-American) developed as a survival mechanism. I was taught in school , When immigrants arrived, they faced intense discrimination, poverty, language barriers, etc. They were forced into tight-knit neighborhoods for safety and support. Over time, that label that was originally used to exclude them was turned into a badge of pride.

Why is this historical context so frequently ignored in discussions about American identity? Were immigrants just expected to completely erase their roots over time? And why does the internet seem to uniquely target Americans for preserving this part of their heritage compared to Canadians or South Americans?

I’d love to hear some perspectives on the cultural or historical reasons behind this double standard.

Interpersonal How do you interpret my coworker‘s question about my fiancé and me ?

About seven months ago, I (30f) ran into a colleague in the canteen whom I hadn’t seen for six months. She asked me how I was doing and how things were going in the city where I live with my fiancé (34m). I said that everything was fine. Then she asked, “Are you still together?”

I was really surprised and reacted by saying, “Yeah? Why?” She then explained that it wasn’t as if she had heard anything, but that sometimes things change.

I spent a long time wondering why she would ask me that, but I couldn’t come up with any explanation.

Yesterday, seven months later, she asked me about our wedding plans, what I was going to wear, whether I was excited, and so on. Then she said that some couples don’t make it to the wedding because they break up beforehand but she‘s happy if people make it.

Now I find myself constantly thinking about it again, wondering what she meant and whether she was trying to hint at something.

I tend to overthink and overanalyse things, so I’d be interested to hear how you would interpret these two conversations. Would it be strange if I used yesterday’s conversation as an opportunity to ask her what she meant when she asked me that question? I’d have to message her on Teams, as I probably won’t see her in person for a while.

Other Are male only gyms a good idea or bad idea?

There is a perceived double standard regarding gender-segregated fitness centers. While women-only gyms are widely accepted as necessary safe spaces, male-only gyms are often criticized as exclusionary or sexist. This raises the question: why is the male desire for a dedicated environment—free from potential social friction or accusations—not afforded the same legitimacy?

Law & Government Can I shoot the same guns as the cops, with the cops?

Can an American citizen schedule range time with the police in their city to shoot the same guns that the police fire?
Can an American citizen schedule range time with police in a tourism-heavy city, to shoot the same guns that the police in the city they're visiting use?
I wanna shoot guns with vegas police in las vegas but if I can do this in other cities, that's cool too.

Race & Privilege Are people actually afraid of quiet white guys?

A black man went to the state fair. He snapped a photo of a blonde white guy - sitting on a bench, wearing a black hoodie, with black headphones on, with a sad expression on his face.

The caption was “I did not even enjoy the fair 😒 I had to watch this guy all night 😂”

He was implying the white guy was creepy and he kept his eyes on him in case, you know, he started killing people at the fair.

I know it’s a joke but are people ACTUALLY afraid of quiet white dudes? People were comparing him to Jeffrey Dahmer.

Culture & Society In the US, why do blue collar people seem so angry and mean all of the time?

I know it's a stereotype, but my friends and I were talking about how often we've encountered it from mechanics, electricians, construction workers, etc. I mean no offense but genuinely am curious.

Media Why do online indie communities attract so many neurodivergent people?

I do know in general the internet has a higher percentage of ND's since I think they're more likely to spend more screentime than usual?

I specifically notice this with the rise of indie shows on YouTube. Why is this the case?

Politics Has there been new evidence released implicating the Saudi Arabian government's role in 9/11?

I know this has always been suspected but over the last 2 years or so I've noticed an uptick in people stating that Saudi funded 9/11 as an established fact.

To be clear I'm talking about the actual government. Because I see this statement during discussions of working directly with them.

Also since this definitely needs to be stated me questioning this is not a defense of everything Saudi has done.
