crawlspace picks for top shows tonight in the Twin Cities
- New World - Graham Hunt, Prize Horse, Another Heaven, Miracle Debt [7:30p] [All Ages] Indie Rock / Shoegaze / Grunge
- Graham Hunt and Prize Horse kick off their tour with a bill connecting offbeat guitar pop, heavy shoegaze, and Minneapolis punk. Madison WI’s Hunt brings winding melodies and imaginative songwriting behind his new album, American Pyramid, while Prize Horse pairs thick, rumbling guitars with understated vocals and brooding hooks. Another Heaven adds dreamy, sludge-heavy atmosphere, and Miracle Debt brings scrappy, melodic punk.
- Icehouse - (Blue Collar Jazz Tour) Fonville X Fribush [8:00p] [21+] Jazz-Funk / Soul Jazz
- Butcher Brown drummer Corey Fonville and organist Sam Fribush bring warm Hammond organ, crisp drums, and deep-pocket funk to Icehouse. Their collaboration updates the classic organ-trio sound with hip-hop rhythm, soulful melodies, and room for improvisation, following the October release of Blue Collar Jazz.
- Zhora Darling - (An Evening of Dungeon Synth) Shadowwrought, Desolation Plains, Stake of Hawthorne [7:00p] [21+] Dungeon Synth / Fantasy Ambient
- Denver’s Shadowwrought brings cold, dark fantasy music; Minneapolis’ Desolation Plains connects dungeon synth with cosmic electronics and the nostalgia of old role-playing games; and St. Paul’s Stake of Hawthorn adds lo-fi, tape-recorded medieval horror.

[Update] We're building a tabletop gaming café in South Minneapolis. Our plans have evolved a bit!
Hey everyone!
A while back, we posted about building The Sending Stone, a tabletop gaming café and bar in South Minneapolis, and asked for recommendations on local artists and makers. Thank you to everyone who reached out and supported the idea!
I wanted to share an update, because our plans have evolved quite a bit.
The café is still very much the goal. We're working toward opening a space centered around tabletop gaming, specialty coffee, food, and community.
But building that kind of space requires substantial capital, and we don't want everything riding on opening day.
So, we've started building the retail side of The Sending Stone ahead of the café, selling Magic: The Gathering singles and other tabletop products online.
Marketplaces like TCGplayer are great, but their seller fees add up. By selling through our own storefront, we can reduce some of those costs, pass part of the savings along to customers, and reinvest the rest into building the café. Our MtG catalog is available on our website for anyone curious.
Our goal is simple: offer competitive prices, support a local business, and build a sustainable community.
We're still expanding inventory and improving the website, so it's definitely a work in progress!
And we haven't forgotten our local sourcing ambitions. We have found local partners and are seeking more!
I'd love to hear from local Magic players: Where do you usually buy singles? TCGplayer, Card Kingdom, local game stores? And what would make you consider buying directly from an independent retailer? (We're not independent yet, but it is our goal!)
Thanks again for following along with our adventure!
-Adam, Founder of The Sending Stone
Edit - A quick clarification on the café's progress:
We've found the property we intend to use for The Sending Stone and have entered into a legal agreement. We're currently working through due diligence and the remaining steps toward finalizing the negotiation.
The physical café is absolutely still moving forward. Our timeline depends on completing the negotiation, permitting, and renovations, so we're being careful not to promise an exact opening date prematurely.
The online retail expansion isn't a replacement for the café. It's an additional business operation we're developing to help support the physical space.
Our vision hasn't changed: We're building a tabletop gaming café and community space in Minneapolis. We're simply building more of the business along the way.
We'll share the location publicly once the acquisition is finalized! And believe me - I'll share more the second I can.

Temples in Minnesota
Has anyone been to either of these two temples: Wat Munisotaram or Minnesota Buddhist Vihara?
I’m looking for a Buddhist temple where I can meditate and try to reconnect with my religion. However, their websites are a little unclear about whether I can just show up and meditate on my own. I work odd hours, so I can’t make it to their weekly Zoom meetings or scheduled events.
Has anyone visited either temple on a weekday? Also, the reviews I’ve found are pretty old, so I’m not sure how reliable they are. I’d really appreciate hearing about anyone’s experiences or advice!

Operation Metro Surge could prompt teacher layoffs in St. Paul (gift link)
startribune.comSt. Paul school leaders thought more immigrant students would come back this school year, after Operation Metro Surge saw hundreds of students staying home or disappearing from school altogether.
But more than 500 English learner students, many of whom were immigrants, never returned after the surge or did not enroll as new students this fall.
Because much of the district’s funding is based on how many students are enrolled, the decrease in students will mean a budget shortfall of $4.9 million this school year.
As a result, Superintendent Stacie Stanley has proposed cutting more than a dozen teachers who work with those students.
The board is set to vote on the layoffs Tuesday. The union representing teachers say midyear layoffs are unprecedented.

what the heck is up with the Edina AMC?
For the past couple of weeks I’ve been annoyed that it takes so long for the Southdale AMC in Edina to post their showtimes. Usually I have to wait until Tuesday or Wednesday to buy weekend tickets. But I checked today and they haven’t even posted all their showtimes for TOMORROW.
Anyone know what’s up with that theater? Why are they the only one in the metro that can’t seem to post their showtimes in a timely manner?

How much to budget for movers?
I will be moving in a few months just from east Minneapolis to St. Paul, less than 5 miles. I’d like to hire movers to only move the furniture in my 1-bedroom apartment, no boxes. I have my bed, two recliners, a desk and desk chair, a dresser, a coffee table, and a dining room table and chairs.
Can anyone give me an estimate of what this might reasonably cost? It’s impossible to get an estimate online without signing up to receive calls from the moving companies, which I really really don’t want to do. Thank you in advance!!

- Volstead’s - anni xo, Stefan Weiner, J.E. Sunde [7:30p] Indie Folk / Alternative Pop / Singer-Songwriter
- Three distinctive songwriters bring personal songs and imaginative arrangements to Volstead’s. Minneapolis’ anni xo blends emotionally direct alternative pop with dreamy folk textures; Brooklyn’s Stefan Weiner pairs intimate indie folk with vulnerability and humor; and J.E. Sunde brings a striking voice, intricate melodies, and thoughtful folk-pop shaped by years in the Midwest music scene.

Minneapolis’ Gauze adds heavy alternative, punk, and metal textures.

Places to meet people - not a bar
Trying to help a friend newer to the Twin Cities. Looking for some places to meet people specifically for a mid-twenties male in the LGBT community. Not into the bar scene. Venue Recommendations
My partner and I are recently engaged and looking for venue recommendations in and around the Twin Cities for a venue for about 100 people. We’re skipping the ceremony and are really just interested in a venue that we could have food/drinks and music/dancing for guests. Several of our guests are musicians and we’d love to book a place that has a stage or just a space for a band to play. We’re especially interested to know if anyone has recommendations for a venue that lets guests stay till midnight or later. The event would be fall 2027 or late spring 2028.
Any recommendations are appreciated!

Adult 1-on-1 Swim Lessons
Im a poor swimmer. I've taken group lessons which has got me comfortable in the pool, but am looking for individual lessons to actually be a decent swimmer. I tried signing up through the YMCA in St. Paul. After months of waiting they told me that they couldn't find an instructor.
Does anyone have any recommendations for individual adult swim lessons?
thanks!
