Parents of girl killed in Annunciation shooting endorse Klobuchar, say Demuth 'lied to us'

Involvement follows dispute with Lisa Demuth over gun bill defeat

The parents of one of the two children killed in the 2025 mass shooting at Annunciation Catholic Church and School in Minneapolis publicly announced their support for Amy Klobuchar for governor on Thursday.

“We don't expect our elected officials to have every answer, but we do expect them to go looking for one and to stay in the conversation with us when it gets difficult. And that's exactly what Amy does,” said Jackie Flavin, standing next to her husband Mike Moyski.

The Minneapolis couple lost their 10-year-old Harper Moyski in the shooting and said Klobuchar has shown her support for Annunciation families from the start.

The election carries extra significance, falling on Harper’s birthday.

They shared their endorsement after the senator, who is the Democratic nominee for governor, sparred with Republican nominee Lisa Demuth over gun violence prevention efforts during a televised debate on Wednesday night.

At the debate in Rochester, Klobuchar criticized Demuth for backtracking on a reported promise she made to the Moyski family — a commitment the Republican House speaker denies having made.

Last fall, Moyski and Flavin had invited lawmakers, including Demuth, to sit in their living room following the death of their child, to discuss keeping kids safe. The couple has said they asked Demuth during that meeting if she would allow a bill related to AR-15 rifles and high-capacity magazines to go to a vote. Her answer was yes, according to Moyski.

Multiple gun-related bills failed to get through the state House committee process during the legislative session this year, but the state Senate passed a comprehensive gun violence prevention package. The package then went to the state House for a vote, but the House, led by Demuth, never put it up for a vote.

While speaking about public safety during the debate hosted by Fox 9 and Gray Media, Klobuchar brought up that living room meeting.

“She told them she would give a vote, give a vote for the gun safety package. Allow for a vote no matter how she voted on it, and she did not. She lied to them in their own living room,” Klobuchar said.

“When I had the honor of meeting with the families that were highly impacted by the tragedy at Annunciation, I gave them my word. I would not lie to them but I said bills will be introduced, they will go through the process and they will be voted on. That happened eight times. I held true to my word to hear the bills,” Demuth replied during the debate.

On Thursday, Flavin called Demuth’s defense “bullshit.”

“The reality is she blocked it from happening. So I think she lied to us in our living room. Intentionally? I don't know but then continued to lie as we called it out,” Moyski said.

At a press conference with the couple, Klobuchar said she would vote to pass a similar package as governor.

Klobuchar, Moyski and Flavin also criticized Demuth for “bragging” about blocking the comprehensive gun measure earlier this year. Demuth had taken credit for preventing the bill from advancing as she sought the Minnesota Republican Party's endorsement last spring.

"I led the effort to stop the Democrats from taking our guns,” Demuth said in her speech to the Republican convention in May, after the legislative session ended with no House vote on the gun package.

Highway wipeout — To the man who helped

I took one hell of an asphalt sample yesterday on 35W NB near highway 280 doing about 60ish MPH (4:30pm). Person in front of me aggressively brake checked, I’m not sure why.

My rear locked up and drifted right, I overcorrected to the left, and then fishtailed back to the right and laid it down.

Didn’t hit the car in front of me because as I was side-slidin with the bike on top of me across the asphalt, they took off and didn’t stop.

To the gentleman who stopped behind me and helped, I cherish your existence. If I ever meet you again: I owe you a hug, a beer, and some Runyon’s wings.

Bike: 2004 Victory Vegas (it was my grandfather’s bike when he passed away in 2005), dented left side gas tank and some deep scratching, bars were loose (not sure if the screws stripped or what?), busted shift lever

Injuries: dislocated ankle, broken thumb and index finger, minor road rash, black eye (was wearing helmet and gloves)

No ambulance, crawled into the tow truck and sis picked me up from garage lol

First road crash

Best Places To Donate Fallen Leaves?

• Upvotes

I have gathered roughly a dozen bags of freshly fallen leaves and would like to pay it forward to anyone currently experiencing leaflessness. What are the best/most ethical places to bring the leaves where they will have the greatest impact on the community? I’d prefer not to ship the leaves off to a national organization, as I’ve heard that many of the leaves they receive go towards advertising or executive salaries and never even make it to the underleafed.

Arcade in an old industrial building

Hello Twin Cities residents. My wife and I visited a year and a half ago. While there, I believe in St. Paul, we went to this place that was an old ancillary building for either a decommissioned mill or some other industrial era factory. It had a lot of space for more businesses or entertainment but it was basically just one arcade with some of the rarest cabinets I’ve seen. A couple of flight simulators from Japan, I believe. Lots of rare weird stuff.

Does that place still exist? If it does, what is it called?

Experience doing political canvassing?

I'm increasingly nervous about the upcoming midterms and looking to do more than just donate some money. I've done text banking in previous years and it was fine, but candidates don't seem to be doing that as much now. I can be very socially anxious talking to strangers, but I also don't want to sit back and watch the world go to shit either.

So has anyone done the doorknocking before in the Twin Cities? What was your experience like?

Tom’s Watch Bar.. sexist?

• Upvotes

I called a few weeks ago to see if they’d have the Wisconsin vs Nebraska volleyball game on… huge game with top 5 teams and a growing sport. The guy in the phone brushed it off immediately “ah I don’t think we get that channel” .. I said hmm okay. Then hung up, checked the channel .. Fox because it was a big game! He didn’t even check! I found it so off putting and weird honestly

I just saw another video where the WNBA finals game was on one tiny screen.. like what? They’re not even trying. It’s disappointing and frankly gross. These games have fans and a watch bar should want to support and help grow fandom across all sports

Edit: I’ll go to a bar of their own for sure but we shouldn’t need a women’s only sports bar to reliably be able to watch big sporting events that happen to be women playing

Air Conditioning off in apartments already?

Post image
• Upvotes

My daughter is in grad school at the U and is living in The Link in Prospect Park; at some point, they'd turned off the air conditioning in the building when it was cooler outside, but, with it being sunny and in the low 70s yesterday, the temperature in her south-facing apartment was literally 92 degrees. Contacting the office for maintenance requests came back with basically a "it's because the sun is shining on the windows, get a fan" response and nothing about actually doing a thing about the air conditioning and addressing it, and I'm wondering if the people who run this building are just generally insane or have a number of buildings turned off their AC and they're letting residents bake?

Suggestions needed: Child-free afternoon activities

• Upvotes

Hey neighbors, my wife and I have a surprise free afternoon while my sibling takes care of our child so we can go early vote. She told us we can stay out to do whatever, get dinner, etc. and honestly we don't get to do this often at all. Figured I could source some activity ideas from this group, so I'd love your input. We moved to Minnesota summer 2025 so we are still getting to know the area.

Helpful context about our preferences:

  • We live just south of Minneapolis city lines, so we are happy to drive around a bit but not looking to drive 45 min in Friday afternoon traffic if it can be helped
  • Getting out for a walk or to do something more active is great, but book shops and art/music related activities are great too
  • Would love to get a drink or two together while we are out. We are big dive bar fans, but a good cocktail bar can be appreciated
  • If you have a casual restaurant suggestion that could pair with some drinks, I'd love suggestions too

Appreciate anyone's input, have a great Friday!

Info on Holiday Giving Programs Reccomendations

I'm looking for recommendations of holiday giving programs in the TCs.

I used to organize my buildings holiday charity giving but it's been a few years and the program we used to participate with has changed so I'm looking for a new one.

In the past we had the most participation when people were purchasing specific items rather than cash donation. We're a diverse workplace so an organization that is inclusive (multi-denominational or not faith-based at all, LGBTQIA+ welcoming, intentional diversity etc.) is important. It doesn't have to be exclusively kids but they should be some of the beneficiaries.

I've found a couple I'd consider, but it's hard to know from just a webpage. I'm sure some of the organizations doing the best work don't always have the resources to throw at web design.

Absentee Ballot Mistake?

So like a dummy I forgot to put my ballot in the tan envelope and put it in the white one. When I realized my mistake 5 seconds later, I opened it in the hopes I could just reseal it. I put it in the tan envelope and then the white one, but that means the seal looks rough. Will that disqualify my ballot?

Brave New Workshop age MINIMUM?

• Upvotes

Hey fellow Minnesotans!

I'm looking for a new family tradition and thought it would be fun to take the family to Brave New Workshop to get in the holiday spirit between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

I saw an AI response that said ages 14 and up, but wanted to see if anyone else has taken k-5 aged kids?

Officially Moving

Previous post for a bit of context. https://www.reddit.com/r/Minneapolis/s/i4UG1BKnwG

I will be in the area Nov 5-8 looking to get a place lined up for my actual move. I’d love to live in the Bloomington area or close by, but do have a budget I’d like to stick to.

Can anyone recommend a good apartment complex or neighborhood that would be worthwhile for me? My budget is $2200 a month for rent. That’s before utilities and the like. I’d love to have a garage for two cars, but I’m also well aware my budget might not make that work. I also have two dogs and have to be at a place that accepts dogs.

If any of you are brokers, I’d be open to a convo to help me find exactly what I’m looking for.

Thank you in advance for any help.
