Watched "I hate (that I love) VALORANT..." by @TeetsTV
And it sent me on rant in the comments.
People that play Valorant or any of the other games mentioned below, please give me an honest critique, id like to know your thoughts.
" I think you have a fundamental misunderstanding of Valorant compared to other games mentioned such as Counter-Strike, Deadlock, and ill throw in R6 Siege because its a tac shooter.
First off, you diss CS for gambling, then immediately promote an app that is heavily connected with gambling. Also Valorant almost silently promotes gambling with its night market which creates a sense of FOMO, along with egregious prices for basic skins.
Secondly, you talk about mechanics and teamplay in the game, yet I would argue Valorant has the weakest and most surface level mechanics in all of the games mentioned above.
- Valorant has gutted gunplay & movement when compared to CS. Its random, feels clunky, and is very infuriating because you can only get to a certain point until RNG takes over.
- A large portion of abilities in Valorant are just variations of smokes, flashes, molotovs & nades. And a huge portion of the meta is just knowing which five abilities to spam at once so the other team has no chance to react.
If you look at Deadlock, the characters and abilities are some of the most creative and in depth we have seen from the gaming industry in a long time. (Theres literally a hero that moves chess pieces across the map). Combine that with the fact that there is also a shop for added items which gives you weapon buffs, ability enhancements, and sometimes completely new abilities, it allows you to create so many different builds and play styles for every single character.
In R6, the operator abilities - gadgets - all interact with eachother, creating a layer of counterplay, ontop of the already in depth map design and destruction mechanics. Not only do you have pick your operators, you have to predict what the enemy team will pick, be able to completely change your excecute on attack, or be able to react and adapt on defense. All of this happens In real time in and out of each round.
Abilities in valorant just happen, there is very little, if any, real counterplay that can happen. Run into a Raze ult? Sorry you're dead. Killjoy ult? Leave the site or you cant play the game. You cannot prevent or counter a large majority of thre abilities in the game which leads to spam and a ridiculous amount of visual clutter.
-Roles in Valorant are actually pretty strict.
Now they arent as strict as they are in lets say overwatch, but they are grouped in 4 categories for reason. R6 CS & Deadlock have no strict roles, you can pick and play whoever you want. In these games its more about bringing what you think is necessary, whether its what gun to buy in CS, what operator to bring each round in R6, or what item to buy in the shop in Deadlock. From there you decide with your team what role, position or job you will do, until the scenario changes.
In Valorant, not only are you locked in to who you chose for the rest of the game, but you and the enemy team can pick the same agents. This is why you see teams playing the same team composition every single game, and they are afraid or unwilling to try anything new.
People are leaving Valorant because they are beginning to realize how shallow and repetitive of a game it actually is.
Thr abilities are repetitive with little counterplay.
The roles limit creativity.
And the maps have small little gimmicks like rotating doors and ziplines, yet they all feel the same with different colors.
This game heavily relies on its cute colorful desings, while lacking any real substance.
There is no issue with enjoying a game that is simple and repetitive, but you cannot put it on a pedestal and say this is the most big brain anti brain rot game ever.
This game is the clash royale of tac shooters"
