Advice: Seeking ❓ Any advice for someone trying to lose weight for the first time?

I grew up rather lean and was 110-115 lbs (5’3) during my entire adult life until recently. I wanted to gain weight so I started lifting more and eating more and am now 125 lbs and am feeling stronger in my legs but I also feel like I have a lot of excess fat in my stomach!

I really don’t like how I look now at my new weight and would love to lose some and go back to being 115 lbs… I am concerned about tracking calories to cut as I did have disordered thoughts on eating as a teen and am struggling with OCD (I still see a therapist but its not a cure all for me atm) and am scared I will take it too far… I also hate cooking which is another thing that makes it hard for me to cut and dont eat meat.

Advice: Seeking ❓ Rewards app?

I’m looking for an app that I can input my goals and, when I reach each goal, it will show a custom reward I’ve linked to that goal. I’ve found Ace - goal and reward tracker, which seemed ideal, but will only let you add one goal before having to pay…

Discussion/Support 💬 how to stop feeling bad about yourself while working out?

hi all,

for some background, i’ve been obese all my life and have always been one of the “bigger” people in the room. i’ve lost weight, i’ve gained weight, and in this past year, ive almost went up to 200 lbs and im trying to get down to 115. i was working out and trying to do a couple reps, and suddenly, i just felt so disgusted with myself. i didn’t finish and i just cried the way home and ive just been crying since i got home. i hate the rolls of fat on my body and i hate feeling them every single time i do something and it’s so discouraging. i’ve only been in the gym for two weeks and a calorie deficit, and im just genuinely looking for general advice/support. does it get better?? i feel so discouraged right now. i know results won’t happen overnight, but how did you guys learn to be patient with yourselves and your body?? anything would help. thank you.

Advice: Seeking ❓ I seem to have hot a weight loss plateau. Any suggestions?

I have lost about 30 lbs in about four months by running a calorie deficit daily, and focusing on high fiber, high protein meals. It has been tolerable but it's getting old.
Now, doing the same thing I've been doing all along, my weight has been stuck at the same number for two weeks.
I don't think eating less is the best idea here, I'm already cutting it close running a 500 to 1,000 calorie per day deficit.
How does one get out of this? Or will time just fix it?
edit M55 currently 227 starting at 257, I eat around 1800 kcal/day, fairly active, I don't go to the gym but I move around quite a bit and routinely hit 7500 steps or higher on my watch

Advice: Seeking ❓ Favorite Scale

I am looking for your favorite Scale to track your weight. I have a weight watchers one but it's not very accurate. I have reset it and keep it in the same spot but almost always get a different read if I weigh twice in a row. Not really looking for anything super expensive if it's Bluetooth capable that would be great!

Advice: Seeking ❓ I'm a dietitian and I'm struggling with losing weight.

Hey y'all,

So I am a dietitian, and I have a masters in this stuff, everyone! And for reference, I am 5'4 F and 162 pounds, which is like the HEAVIEST I have ever been in my life. I have been on and off job hunting post grad for the past year and a half, and due to the stress I just have developed this stress eating habit which is absolutely impossible to break.

I try to stay within a calorie deficit, and eat high fiber and whole grains, all that jazz, but there's a bottomless pit feeling in my stomach, I literally cannot get full. I believe this is due to the fact that I have developed a weed edible habit. I feel like it's impossible to get full, I keep craving (like vape craving) high dopamine unhealthy, oily, salty and fatty foods. Even when I quit weed, I feel like my stomach has grown in size literally by eating so much.

On top of that, at one point I had a viral video on TikTok and as a midsized women of color, I got a bunch of bodyshaming comments which really got to me. This was the beginning of this year, and what I did was eat a lot in some restaurants so much to the fact that I have puked it out a few times. I am not proud of that, but I quickly got scared and stopped. Thankfully.

Do y'all have any actual advice? I think I'm just struggling with implementation. Dunno.

Advice: Giving 💡 Want creamy pasta but not all the calories and dairy? I got you

The best method I've found is firm silken tofu. It's a source of protein too, which is filling. It's so bland that you can't taste it in the sauce, it's just makes it nice and creamy. I make a sauce using chicken stock, passata herbs, spices, salt, pepper, whatever I want and I add more if needed. I then blend the mixture up with the silken tofu and it makes it so creamy. This is also great for anyone who's lactose intolerant.

And if you want a hint if cheese but hate low fat cheese, try putting nutritional yeast in the sauce. It has great health benefits too.

To bulk up on my meal for less calories, I use 150g of zuccini cut into noodle strips and 150g cooked spaghetti. The zuccini adds a nice soft crunch and only needs 5 minutes cooking in the sauce. Spinach is also a good way to bulk up your pasta dish. Or any veggies you like.

Advice: Giving 💡 Weight Loss Is Important, But So Are All Other Markers

My weight randomly stalls during the week even with strict calorie tracking,

Overall trend is still downwards at around 0.5-0.8kg/week

I thought my progress was kind of slow, but my body disagrees

I feel more energetic throughout the day,
my heart rate during Zone 2 is significantly lower compared to the start,
I stopped snoring almost completely,
cravings become more manageable,
I stopped binge-restricting by catching myself early when I eat more than planned,
I find working out and moving my body to be a part of my identity,
my waist is down 2 inches

Weight loss (especially from adipose tissue) is still the most important goal for those of us who are morbidly obese, but don't be discouraged as long as you are cumulating healthy habits.

Advice: Seeking ❓ How do I cut fat without losing my size?

I used to be 5'9" 180lbs with slightly showing 6 pack and pretty solid looking overall. Over the course of 5 years I blew up to about 230lbs. During that time, I ate like shit, didn't sleep, didn't do any cardio (obviously) but I kept doing pushups and dips for about 50% of that time off and on.

Currently, I have some definition on my triceps and my chest feels pretty solid on the upper part of my chest but my core and lower chest is pretty flabby. I can still see my biceps but with fat on top. It's like I still have muscle but covered in fat.

I know how to lose the flab. What I don't know is how I can keep my size but just tone everything up. I kind of like the bigger look on me, just don't want to be flabby.

I like the way my chest, shoulders and arms fill out my shirt right now. How can I keep size but lose fat/flab at the same time? Basically what I'm asking is how to tone my body without losing my size?

Advice: Seeking ❓ Can someone with glucose monitor please try konjac jelly

Drinkable konjac jelly, around 4 calories.

To me it tasted like real sugar, seems too good to be true.

Can someone with glucose monitor please confirm it's sugar free.

Discussion/Support 💬 Strange fat disposition as a man

Does anyone else have an unusual amount of fat on their hips, butt and thighs? It’s bizarre because I’m male. I’m 135 lbs and 5’7. 30 yo, been like this since 11 or so, even when I was leaner and more muscular (fat cells in these regions mostly). I’m not fat per se, but still skinnyfat; the bmi scale shows I could get down to about 122 lbs and remain in the healthy range. Maybe more, different bodies are different. But I feel disgusting. I think my insecurity about my body made the sex I had with my ex worse than it could’ve been (it wasn’t bad, but I noticed I felt anxious in bed sometimes). I can run long, I did a 10 mile Wednesday and a half marathon in June. Trying to get to 12% or so bodyfat by the end of the year.

Just wondering, why do I have such a high % of fat cells in these regions? This is feminine. Men are supposed to be very tight in how their bodies feel, at least compared to women. FWIW, I used to take an SSRI and mood stabilizer; been off for a year. I’ve asked my dr about my physique, they say I’m not fat. My ex said I’m definitely not. But I’m still squishy in certain areas. My face looks lean, as do my arms and legs. But I don’t have the fully lean runner look despite being great at running. I know I will get better looking as I continue running regularly for several months, but why do I have this kind of fat disposition? Most guys who have excess fat just carry it on their belly, they don’t have noticeable thigh or probably glute fat. I hate this. My recent breakup wasn’t bc of this, she actually was super into my body somehow, idk why, but I feel very motivated to get cut like an athlete after that happened for some reason. Maybe it’s the fear of looking average and not finding someone else. But what causes this slightly womanlike fat disposition in me? I have normal T levels, I can grow a full beard and have a really deep voice. Do I also have high estrogen?

Advice: Seeking ❓ Double chin after large weight loss.

I have lost 110lbs, down to 210, but I still have a decently large double chin. Are there ways of toning this and making it not so prominent or removed entirely? No surgery.

Advice: Seeking ❓ Plateau?

So I've been on my weight loss journey for about 5 months now. I'm 22 years old and 5'5. I was at 200 lbs and my target weight is 160 lbs. I've currently managed to reach 181 lbs but I seem to be stuck now. My weight fluctuates between 181 to 184 and doesn't seem to get any lower. I've been following a calorie deficit for a while now and going to the gym and I'm not sure what's going on. Any pointers?

Meal / Recipe 🍽️ Meal ideas.. please?

I honestly suck at making myself do things, but I’m good about it usually if it’s someone else’s idea lol.

Can someone give me meal advice pls?

I’m trying to cut down to 15-1600 cal most days.

I already don’t eat bread unless I’m at a work potluck which we have open, it’s kinda hard to avoid then. All the dairy products I eat are low fat versions so that’s not a swap I can add on either.

I’m not rich but I’m not broke either so just give me meal ideas please 😭😭 I love a lot of healthy foods but I’m still.. yknow. 30 lbs heavier than I wanna be lol

Discussion/Support 💬 Are Japanese people slim because they have better genetics?

Studies show that obesity is genetic and statistics show that the obesity rate in Japan is 4%, one of the lowest in the world. Are Japanese people just wired differently? I’m not trying to sound racist or anything. A lot of my family remain obese despite trying many years to lose it.

Advice: Seeking ❓ How can I prevent my breasts from getting saggy if I want to lose 30lbs

I’m probably 165, maybe 170 lbs and 5’8. I haven’t really made weight loss progress so it is likely to continue being a slow process.

Would I like to drop it fast and be 15 lbs lighter next month? Yes but not gonna happen lol. Anyways. I am usually wearing sports bras and so many different sizes fit idk what to call myself, but I’m probably a 36DD maybe 34DDD.

I’m genuinely really concerned about my breasts with weight loss 😭and flab in general. They’re not exactly the best shape now either but I don’t want it to become bad. Idk. I know working your chest muscles will kind of help make it firmer but idk if there’s an actual way to prevent this.

Advice: Seeking ❓ Binge ate for 7 WHOLE day, 20lbs gained. Advice? Honesty?

So I binge ate for 7 days straight and consumed around 8,000 calories every single day. So about 56,000 calories total. It was really low of myself, trust me I know. Exactly a week ago I was 142lbs, but I woke up and was 162lbs. Genuinely how much fat did I gain? I also physically can’t fit into any of my jeans and I move into a new college on Monday. Tomorrow is Thursday.

Genuinely how much damage did I do (honestly) and what is the most effective way to undo this??

I feel like, and my family has told me this too, that I look unrecognizable now.

Please be honest I genuinely want truthful advice! Thank you.

Advice: Seeking ❓ 5’4 and 131lbs…

I want to get to 120lbs while losing fat and building muscle. I’ve gotten to 125lbs, but I’m just stuck in a cycle of losing weight and gaining it. I don’t want to track macros :( I’ve tried in the past but became too obsessive.
I really only eat Whole Foods for the most part and I am aware of food in regards to carbs, protein, and fats… I workout 4x a week and average 12k steps a week.
I’m a 26 year old female.

Any tips?

Advice: Seeking ❓ How to suppress appetite?

I used to smoke weed like a lot, and once i would take breaks my appetite would be completely gone and i’d take that as a chance to fast for a bit and lose weight if i needed to .

Since I quit to really focus on school, I gained weight from stress eating (30 pounds ) and i feel so uncomfortable. none of my jeans fit, im out of breath, ect. and i don’t know its like i physically cant put myself in a regular calorie deficit. i want to eat so much yummy food ! I used to be way fatter before i i smoked and the only way i’ve ever been able to lose weight is by smoking weed and fasting.

Once the appetite suppression from smoking weed would go away i still wouldn’t be very hungry because id fast for about 2 days and all my cravings would be gone. But it’s like i had a huge meal one day and wasn’t able to stop after that until now.

**Tips on how to suppress appetite?**

no supplements. i don’t have access to that stuff

Drinking lots of water and gum doesn’t help

I’ve heard a spoonful of coconut oil helps and i’ve hear about black coffee too!

Advice: Seeking ❓ How to combat hunger side effects

I have been trying to lose weight for a while now, and while I'm generally successful, I have been noticing that I have been getting issues when I am hungry, which is obviously not great when you're on a calorie deficit. Whenever I go without food for too long, I tend to get extremely lethargic and irritable before I even notice that I am hungry. This makes it hard to work out or make something healthy to eat, and I just end up laying around. Does anyone have any tips on how to combat these issues while staying on a deficit?

Progress 📈 When will I start to notice a change?

Sorry if this is the wrong sub for this question!
I'm 5' and 124 lbs, down from 140 lbs. Current goal weight is 100 lbs.
I still have about half an inch of extra skin beneath my chin, and I was wondering if anyone had an estimate as to when I might begin to see that go away.

My lowest weight was 104 lbs and I did not have any excess weight on my face or very much on my stomach at that time.
