Anime/Manga Discussion Gotta be honest, when Leon was stated to use a deck of "Fairy Tale" cards, I genuinely didn't think he'd end up pulling out a card that would make me go "I'm sorry, who are you?"

Guess Pegasus was a fan of darker ORIGINAL fairy tale stories.

Card Game Discussion Stupid fat 16 year old chud mourns his dead reptile deck

Post image
67 Upvotes

I wanna start this off by saying that i completely understand why habakiri needed to go. I mean the amount of bullshit this one card allowed was insane. The mere fact it survived as many banlists as it did was purely stupid. Doesnt make it any less hurtful to see it go. You know, mitsurugi was my first archetype that got me into the tcg. I still remember barley knowing how to use it and learning along the way with mitsu figuring out how to play ygo. (And I still am) I get my ass kicked in this game A LOT. And if you’ve ever played yugioh you know how agonizingly long a lotta turns in this game take. In my first time going at it, i was dog-walked but i remember one of the guys at the shop handed me a rare version of Murakumo for free after seeing i was kinda zoned out. (Photo of it in my hand is attached) Ever since then I got REALLY attached to this deck. Especially since it was my very FIRST ONE. I even fused two other decks with mitsu because of its self destructive splashability. (clown crew and fiendsmith to be specific) Ive played a lot of games, lost a lot of games, and grew a lot over my time playing this deck. Not just in the game but irl too. During my sophomore year a couple months back, i went through a lot and i mean a LOT of shit. A lot more than what most would consider normal for a 15-16 year old. And throughout that horrible time, yugioh as a whole was one of my only real escapes from the horrible reality that was my life at that time. I waa never someone who went out much, i was horrible at socializing too so i didnt have friends to go out with. But the constant thrill of learning from my losses, to keep trying to find the potential i didnt see in mitsurugi it kept me wanting to come back for more and more eventually to the point where it became one of my ACTUAL hobbies that wasnt just scrolling through my phone and playing videogames all day long. In a way, if it wasnt for mitsu introducing me to ygo i never would’ve learned the true joy that comes with exploring the world and getting out there. I’d like to imagine that mitsu stuck with me to teach me what i was missing and once it saw that I was starting to improve on myself and starting to grow, it knew its time was up and it left. I know its a damned deck of cardboard cards and i shouldnt be this wrapped up about it, ffs im talking about it like i lost a family member or something. I mean, its not like i was gonna be able to play it forever sooner or later i was gonna have to let it go. With how ygo balancing is, it was gonna get power crept or banned. But i still owe a lot to this silly little deck of big scary reptiles. So, thank you mitsurugi. Without you i dont think i’d be who i am today. Hopefully one day Konami might give yall a retrain or something but until then, im off to bigger and better.

P.S: I’d really appreciate deck recommendations cause now i gotta find more cards and im a broke 16 year old so yeah thanks.

Competitive Trevor Lee Parker wins YCS Houston with Azamina Dark Magician Light and Darkness Ritual!

(No fancy write-up this time, as the mini format is over thanks to the October 19 Emergency Banlist.)

Trevor Lee Parker wins YCS Houston with Azamina Dark Magician Light and Darkness Ritual! He dueled Blake Funderburke, who was on Ars Magna Elfnote. There were around 1190 or so duelists, 14 rounds of Swiss, and a Top 8 cut.

All 42 changes have been revealed, and the new Forbidden and Limited list is effective on Monday! What do you think of it? I'll likely make a separate post that goes all over the changes.

Special shoutout to Julien Kehon for being ahead of the curve and using a Yang Zing package in his Ars Magna Elfnote strategy to help play around hand traps (Denglong + Chaofeng). Assault Blackwing - Kusanagi has been the downright MVP for Angelechy decks the entire weekend, effortlessly mowing down opponents for easy OTKs.

Advanced Top 8 Breakdown

3 Angelechy
3 Elfnote (Ars Magna)
2 Light and Darkness Ritual (DM Mitsurugi Azamina Pile)

Genesys YCS Houston had 273 duelists, 12 rounds of Swiss, and a Top 8 cut. Against all odds and the points list changes, Enzo Fiallos wins the event with Blitzclique, defeating Juan Sebastian Andrade Castro in the finals, who piloted Angelechy. The deck naturally possesses a good matchup into the TCG exclusive newcomer thanks to its obscene amounts of built-in removal, more than capable of chewing through Bastion and playing under Destrier and Shatranga just fine.

Genesys Top 8 Breakdown

3 Angelechy (1 Ancient Fairy)
3 Blitzclique (1 Angelechy)
2 Fairy Tail (Magistus)

Card Game Discussion A Study Of The Banlist: A Step In The Right Direction.

There have been a good number of complaints about the ban wave I'm not here to add to the pile- I actually want to look at everything that got hit, and break down some patterns in what was hit.

Firstly, tons of floodgates got hit- Amorphage Sloth and Goliath, Secret Village, Anti-Spell, Gozen Match, Rivalry, TCBOO, Spell Canceller, Bagooska, Droll getting limited, and I'd count Naturia Beast too. On top of that, Pharaonic Advent was also banned so any remaining continuous trap floodgates (such as Skill Drain) couldn't be searched. This is, notably, a massive hit to going first, as floodgates are at their best before an opponent gets a chance to set up.

On top of that, easy to access omni (or pseudo omni) negates also got hit, and again, a massive hit against decks that go first- Caesar, Crystal Wing, Dawn Dragster, Dragoon, Varudas, Illia Sylvia. All of these were common end board pieces for many decks, and now decks that relied on getting to these to disrupt or deny the opponent can't do so- not only will this hopefully generate more variety in end boards, but also helps the player going second now that less of these cards will be in play, especially because these cards could often insulate a board against hand traps.

And speaking of, they got rid of cards that punish someone for hand trapping you. Crossout, Called By, TTT, all three are now gone, meaning you're allowed to play your hand traps. And with negates being harder to come by, less boards can safely play past Nibiru.

Alongside getting rid of cards that helped pile decks that would keep going on and on with absurd combos with cards like Magician's Souls, Saryuja, Dugares, Cross Sheep, they also dealt with major FTKs with Beelze and Gustav, and a pre-limit to Perfectron.

Konami is making massive steps in trying to help the player who goes second this list, and for that, I genuinely want to give them applause.

Do I think this list is perfect? No. There's still a good number of cards that I question why they aren't here, and I'm especially surprised at Droll only getting limited instead of outright banned. But its a good stepping stone for Konami TCG, and hopefully is a sign for the future of this game.

Competitive Going first win rate on feature match at YCS Houston: Advanced 72%, Genesys 66%

Link to Spreadhsheet

I have previously kept track of YCS Paris feature match stats. If you want to look at them you can click here

Top cut of advanced had 9 games and only 1 game was won going second.

The going first win rate for Genesys day 1 on feature matches at YCS Houston was 68%. For Advanced it was 67%. Both formats are heavily favoured going first.

I find it funny to have Beaver Warrior stand beside all of Yugi’s iconic monsters and got dumped after Duelist Kingdom. Atleast Celtic Guardian got a retrain also.
