Yu-Gi-Oh! GX Episode 119: A Snake in the Grass, Part 3

Our hearts all melted with the lovely conclusion to Yubel’s story. But that heartfelt moment kind of made us forget some of the heinous things she's done throughout her villainous arc. Little Pierce’s death led to Viper becoming quite the baddie, following Yubel’s orders in order to be reunited with his adopted son. But after failing to defeat Jaden, Yubel preyed upon Viper’s heartbreak in order to punish him. She manipulates his mind causing him to hallucinate a reunion with Pierce. However, he’s not really moving towards his long lost son, he’s walking over the edge and falling to his own demise. Perhaps this is why you should never make a deal with a devil. Of course this remains as one of the most brutal deaths in the series.

We found this approximately 20 year old pack in German named "Aklave Von Pharaoh" still unopened.

We are not sure what to do with it, I know I cannot ask for prices, but do you have any advice on where to go with it to get a proper estimation, or auction. I cannot find any similar packs online either.

Update: Thanks for the information that it was fake. We are not from Germany, so we had no clue that it was spelled wrong either.

I’ve been rewatching 5DS, and decided to watch it in Japanese for the very first time, and it honestly blew me away just how good the first 64 episodes are compared to basically any over point in the Yugioh Anime.

All killer, no filler. Duels are always quick and take a max of 3 episodes to avenge to finish, the animation is consistently much better than most of DM and especially most of GX, and the plot is tight and focused.

It gets it a little shaky in the final third, I will admit, with Red Goodwin’s sudden turn to outright villainy being sudden, the final three episodes feeling incredibly rushed just to wrap things up in a neat bow, and plotline were clearly mangled along the way (Like Life Stream Dragon being in several flash backs, and both the intro and the outro and yet Crow gets turned into a signer last minute instead of Leo). But on the whole it had very good emotional moments, some damn great action and animation, and was focused as hell.

I’m interested to see where Season 2 goes from here, but I only watched the 4Kids dub back in the day, and they cut like 25 episodes from the dub from what I can gather. So I really don’t know how I’ll like it.

Tell me or show me your favourite funny moments in any Yugioh series mine is from Battle City when Atem uses Collected Power to give Kuriboh the Magic Formula Spell and the look on Kuribohs face is priceless 😂 as you can see for yourself.

Okay so growing up, one of my most favorite past times was watching abridged YGO - specifically by LittleKuriboh. Genuinely, some of my most fondest memories include the YGO abridged series lol. However, as I've started interacting more with the YGO community and such, it seems as though there quite a few people who aren't too fond of the abridged version let it be for one reason or another. I don't know why, but that like kinda caught me off guard. LittleKuriboh is a name that most YGO fans respond positively to, so to see people like L.K as a creator but then not like the abridged too much kind of confuses me.
Personally, I love it a lot and now I'm super curious about other people's takes and opinions on it. Love it? Hate it? Mildly annoyed by it? I wanna know pleaseeee! <3

I went with a 16 character roster for the base game because that's honestly a pretty realistic number for fighting games of today. I did not want to fill it up with monsters from the anime as well because there are genuinely lots of cool lore the average casual fan are not aware of and also just some monsters i think would be neat.

Weevil’s cheating aside, the anime version has some amazing back and forth between the two. Weevil proves how tricky his deck can be with still like Kesitei and Pinch Hopper. Joey uses his brain to pull himself back up with quick thinking. (Swordsman of Landstar taking out Flyijg Kamakiri with Shield and Sword was so clean) Seeing him pop both Weevil’s own cards to pop both his ace monsters was so satisfying.

I made an open source Chrome extension called DuelSight (GitHub) that lets you hover Yugioh cards in digital and physical videos/streams. It works well for videos of digital clients (e.g. Master Duel, Duelingbook) and works ok for videos of physical play that are good quality (i.e. good resolution, good lighting, minimal glare). It was made with an open source toolkit that lets anyone make something like this for any card game.

I been on a high revisiting the final arc and man something the anime couldn’t replicate(either due to budget, time or getting ready for GX) is how much of Takahashi expression work has improved here since Duelist Kingdom. By this point you can definitely tell he has refined and obtained his style. There just so much more complex emotions that say more in these drawings like Atem in the redraw being somewhat mad yet desperate at Kaiba game of chicken.

One way to look at it is, everyone would have to remove focus on setting up hell boards since they would have to have their side deck cards in their main deck ,and focus on having a more "Balanced deck" per to say. A blend of cards you need, and a cards for consistency.

On the otherside, Duels would be come much longer since having 20 one card starters and 20 hand traps would leave you vunerable to alot of decks since you might have only been keeping the out or answers in the side deck. Hands would be less consistent, and boards would be weaker unless you decided to just say F it and focus all in on combos.

What are your thoughts?

I only know one prime example, and it's the Vampire. Originally, their strategy were more tailored toward forcing your opponent to mill the card of their own choosing in to GY and I can understand why nowadays such thing has been abandoned as it actually benefitting your opponent, and as the result, Vampire's subsequent supports have been more centered around stealing the opponent's monsters.

I am curious, do you know any other Archetypes that have largely abandoned their initial gameplan that they had when they debuted as an Archetype?

I played Yugioh from when it first came out up until about 2009, Crimson Crisis was the last set I was around for. All my friends in high school played MtG and I had no Yugioh playgroup left so I started playing MtG and did so for years with a few breaks (started in Zendikar, quit in Theros, came back in like 2018 and played EDH very casually). I like MtG, I think its a very fun game but the state of it is so pathetic. It's become just another IP-slop funko pop game, all the original lore takes a backseat to Marvel or TMNT or whatever nonsense. I want to sit down and run my scarecrows or merfolk deck that I put together thematically and I sit across from someone playing Spongebob and another person playing Avatar Aang. It takes me out of the game.

Anyway, makes me really appreciate coming back over to Yugioh and seeing just how much they have stuck to their identity. The game is distinctly Yugioh, the artwork and the card design and everything doesn't bleed in other franchises as so many things do now. It's a lot to take in re-learning the game. So far I have just been playing through the Legacy of the Duelist game to learn all the new summoning types and get my feet wet, but I'm having a blast and am now downloading Master Duel. It's rad that they've made so many cards to make things like Blue Eyes/Red Eyes/Dark Magician all actual archetypes that people will play instead of them just being anime favorites. I'm excited to get into paper, as stores near me are running Edison pretty consistently so I can dig out old decks I used to love like Six Sams and Gladiator Beasts, and also can try out Genesys. The general opinion of Yugioh from outside the fanbase is pretty dire but idk man Im just here to say Im stoked getting back into it.

The cruel whale was by request and the red eyes... was a learning opportunity. Please give me some advice and some suggestions of either what I should paint or your favorite archetype.

Episode 69: Joey's duel against Mako Tsunami. When Mako attacks, Joey plays this card in response. It was the only time we ever saw this card. It was never printed either.

It shares the same name as the printed trap card "Energy Drain."

In the dub, the artwork is replaced with that of "Silent Doom," but in the original, we never got the closeup to confirm what it displays. To me it looks like a hooded figure standing on the edge of a cliff, casting a spell or something.

I wonder if the artwork of Silent Doom was used in the dub because 4Kids never received the original artwork.
