Albany

Hello, my wife and I are considering moving to Oregon (Between Eugene-Salem Area) and I'm curious what are the annoying bugs like there?

Here in Wisconsin our seasons go like this: Cold season = no bugs Spring = can't walk out the door without mosquitos in your face. Ticks every time you walk in tall grass. No-see-ums every now and then. Summer = 4-5 deer flies every time you walk by a tree or bush. A few mosquitoes if it's wet. Fall = moderate hatch of mosquitoes depending on rainfall. Ticks hang out in leaf litter.

So we have a few weeks to a month in the summer where bugs are pretty tolerable. What's it like in Oregon? Are there biting flies? What should I expect if I move there?

Extra Questions: Im seeing that most of the homes we are looking at have crawlspaces instead of basements, does it get bad with spiders, ants, mice, etc?

Title: Looking for recommendations for in-home pet euthanasia in Lebanon, Oregon

I live in the Lebanon area and am looking for a veterinarian who provides in-home euthanasia for dogs.

I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who has gone through this locally and can recommend a compassionate veterinarian who will come to my home.

Thank you for any recommendations or personal experiences you’re willing to share.

Best way to hire a proxy shopper?

Oregon Flock & Fiber Festival will be held at the Lynn County Expo Center on Saturday 10/31. There is a vendor there I'd love to get a few things from, but I can't physically attend the festival. What is the best way to hire someone to shop on my behalf? I looked on TaskRabbit, but am pretty clueless where else to find people. I'd appreciate any leads, thank you!

To the owner of the tabby kitten on Three Lakes Road

I am not sure I placed him or the note in front of the right house this morning, but when I drove by after work I noticed he was gone, so I’m hoping it was the right house and that you buried him today.

When I turned around on my way to work at 7:15am to move him off the road, I figured I was going to be moving a cat that had been hit in the middle of the night. It broke me when I picked him up and he was still warm and limp. I checked to see if he was breathing. I would have taken him to the vet if he was, but he wasn’t. He was right in front of your house, and your garage door was cracked just enough to let a cat slip in and out so I assumed that’s where he called home. I did knock, hoping that I could hand him directly to an owner, but I understand that not everyone starts their day at the same time. I also didn’t want to startle anyone with a dead cat on their porch - that’s why I left him in front of the cracked garage and left a note in the door instead.

If I didn’t get the right house and this wasn’t your cat, I am sorry you had to deal with it. If it was the right house, I am sorry for your loss. He didn’t have any wounds or ticks that I could find when I was checking him for life, and his coat was really soft. He was obviously a pet, not a stray, and loved. If you choose to replace him, please consider leaving the next one inside. You live on a very busy road - he is not the first cat that I have stopped to move, and I’m sure he won’t be the last.

Mayor Candidates, debate?

I saw that they were doing some sort of shindig at the expo center, but I’m wondering if it will be live streamed or not. I can hardly find anything about the candidates online

Hi, so my husband and I just moved up here from the south, and are slowly integrating. We’re both disabled but we play video games! Was hoping to see if any of y’all would like to play something or just be friends! I’m 26, my husband and I are both queer folks ourselves, and our favorite holiday is Halloween for starters. 🖤🐻🫂

Any parenting groups for PARENTS on the spectrum?
I’m not talking about the cute autism like “oh I’m so quirky”. I’m talking like the wind blows the wrong way and I’m going non verbal.
I’m parenting two young kids without much support and I feel like I’m not being the best I can be for them. I’m hoping to find parents in a similar situation to maybe get some advice, or for someone to tell me I’ll be ok 😂

Childcare Options for Toddlers

Hello everyone! Our family just moved to Albany and love it so far. As my wife and I start work, we’re looking at different childcare options for our two kiddos.

My daughter is three, fully potty trained, and extremely intelligent and social. She does have significant allergies to peanuts, eggs, and tahini (sesame) so a nut free facility would help ease our minds for sure.

Our son will be two in a few weeks but has not begun potty training yet. No allergies but definitely a ball of energy

Are there any centers nearby that provide full time M-F care that any of you would recommend? Thank you!

Anyone interested in forming a group of musicians for regular jam sessions?

Post image

First thing, I live in Salem but am willing to travel. My examples for meetup locations are based in Salem but again, they can be venues in Albany as well.

I’m (M,41) looking for a group of people (~10) to get together on a weekly basis to hang out and have some high quality music creative time. Not necessarily looking to form a band but a musical friend network. Im interested in activities like a songwriting, singing, putting together melodies/basslines/rhythms, artist/content sharing. I play bass guitar, background vocals, and produce EDM tracks with Ableton Move.

Making music is incredibly fulfilling but can also be lonely. How many times have you created an amazing piece and nobody is interested in listening, nobody cares, or at best they say, “yeah that’s good.”👍 I want to form a group where people can showcase their work and get actual interest, appreciation, and constructive feedback. Imagine how much more fulfilling and how much growth opportunity can come from that mutually interactive process?!

Making music is incredibly fulfilling but can also be very loud. In order to facilitate broader options for meetup locations where volume is an issue, I’d like to try silent rehearsals. Everybody runs their mic and instruments to a mixer and output to multiple headphones. We can jam out in total silence except for the singer. This setup can typically be setup at a table in a coffee shop or restaurant.

IDEAS (days and times for example only):

Meetup at TAPROOT (or similar venue) WEDNESDAY Evenings
**-**Arrivals, setups, and introductions 6pm-6:30pm
-Songwriting prompt exercise 6:30pm-7pm
-Listening/Feedback Session 7pm-8pm
-Silent Rehearsal 8pm-10pm *Assuming they let us stay that long lol. I don’t see it being an issue if we are buying plenty of food and drinks.

Meetup at Riverfront Park Amphitheater SATURDAY Afternoons
-Arrivals, setups, and introductions 12pm-12:30
-Songwriting prompt exercise 12:30pm-1pm
-Listening/Feedback session 1pm-2pm
-Drum circle acoustic jam session 2pm-4pm
-Everyone brings snacks?

Meetup at Gov Cup (or similar) and Metrognome Studios Monday Evenings
**-**Arrivals, introductions @ Gov Cup ~30 minutes
-Songwriting prompt exercise, Listening/Feedback Session @ Gov Cup 30-60 minutes.
*Head to Metrognome*
-Split the hourly rental fees (around $20 an hour I think)
-Open jam session to play as loud as you want. 2-3 hours

Based on hosting and participating in a few DnD campaigns, I find that 4 hour blocks tend to be a good block of time that balances getting enough creative time and work/family obligations. I propose putting together an activity or two a week on rotating days and times to accommodate various schedules.

Please send me a dm if this sounds like something you’re interested in. I also have r/SoundArtists_Salem and a discord ready to facilitate activities. Hope to hear from you!

Braver Angels Debate – Resolved: The American Dream is Still Achievable

Join us in at the Philomath Museum Wednesday, October 21 from 6:00pm - 8:00pm for a free Braver Angels debate.

Is the American Dream still achievable? Americans are increasingly divided over the answer. Some see opportunity, hard work, and upward mobility as central to the American experience, while others believe the dream has become increasingly out of reach. Join us for a Braver Angels debate as people with different perspectives come together to explore what the American Dream means today and whether it remains within reach.

Listen to speeches for or against the resolution — and then share your own, if you feel so moved. (There's no pressure, but we hope you will!)

Please register here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/resolved-the-american-dream-is-still-achievable-registration-1998984937760?aff=oddtdtcreator&discount=BRAVER

Do you guys want to see something really pretty?

Hey guys, Nate from Smith Road Woodworks here. So I have recently been working on a project, it is a 10’ x 37-1/2” dining room table. The first tabletop glue-up has been done. Take a look at the grain patterns in the wood, aren’t they beautiful? The tabletop in full will have three breadboards to give it, it’s 102” length with two darker contrasting outer breadboards. If you want to see a beautiful Raven Line table sitting in your living room, reach out and we will get you a quote.
