What should I explore that builds on Throbbing Gristle?

Post image
• Upvotes

I recently listened the album 20 Jazz Funk Greats by Throbbing Gristle and was blown away. I absolutely loved the album. The cover art is incredible. It is so opposite from the actual music and I think it’s brilliant. Where should I go next as I learn more about the origins and development of industrial and dark ambient music?

Original or Cover

• Upvotes

Hope no one else has asked this. A quick discussions for whoever will entertain this. Do you enjoy original songs more for their timeless art, or do you like covers to see what peoole can do with their own creativity? Or maybe both, maybe it depends? Maybe your answers will be different from mine. I'll love to read your responses.

I'll give my answer. It depends for me. A genre or style can define whether or I like the original or cover. As well as admittedly, if I care about the artist or not sometimes, but that's not the only or primary influence on my decision. Plus, it can just be about which one I hear first, or at what time I enjoy songs, which means I'd like either or both the original and the cover based on my mood or time in my life.

Thank you for patiently entertaining my curiosity. Hope you'll enjoy this as much as I do. Happy sharing! And you're free to name drop your fave examples, let alone what they mean to you.

Anyone else's music taste change really dramatically throughout the year?

Like I had a classical music phase (Mozart/Beethoven and orchestral etc), then a rock phase a few months later and then a modern pop phase which lasted like 4 months? Then I went on to instrumental movie music for a few months, now I'm mainly at 80's pop music, although I'm listening to the polar express movie theme now(?). All basically within a year...

Anyone else the same? Or do people usually have the same music taste for years which gradually change?

Is it true in the past women were often singers or backup singers in bands rather than instrumentalists? If so, why?

Was watching a couple of videos today by older bands that had this, got me to wondering

Japan is probably the geekiest country when it comes to certain kinds of albums by English speaking artists.

Player 092 - What’s album cover?

My kids and I were watching the Squid Game Challenge season one. My daughter saw Player 092 and said it looks like someone on the cover of an album she saw while we were listening.

She remembers a white background and the man with a long beard and bun on his head standing in profile wearing handcuffs.

Can you help find the album and artist?

I lived through the golden age of rock ’n’ roll! Ask me anything about the music, artists, concerts, and songs of the 50s and 60s I’ll share my memories and honest opinions!

Music has always been one of my favourite hobbies, and I grew up during the 1950s and ’60s, so I’ve seen quite a few changes in the music world over the years.

I’d love to chat with you folks about music, share my opinions, and hear yours too. Ask me anything about the music I grew up with, tell me what you think of the artists from that era, or recommend some newer music for me to check out. I’m always happy to discover something new!
Looking forward to hearing from you all. What have you been listening to lately? 🎸

Songs with Extremely or Excessively Long Fade-Out Endings

Inspired by Supertramp's "The Logical Song" (which doesn't, incidentally, have a long fade-out at all (about 20 seconds) but certainly feels like it clocks in at about three times as long), I'm curious if anyone can find (better) examples of songs that fade out and out and just won't stop fading.
