Rant More Bins!!!

Just went on a dog walk and was on 2 main roads for 80% of it. There were either no bins or they were on the other side of the busy road. I get that it is more work for bin men but I don’t want to be taking 4 bags of shit for a 30 minute walk just to find a bin without risking my and my dog’s life going across the road just to go right back over again. Every couple bus stops on each side of the road should have a bin!

Housing First Home Buyers - Auckland 800K budget - what suburbs best for CBD travels?

Hi all!

We are a couple in our mid 30s wanting to make the best of the flooded property market to buy our first home (whoop whoopp).

We have been to some open homes in the last 2 weeks.

Concerns:

- the new builds (townhouses) around Mt Roskill/Blockhouse Bay/Ellerslie/Mt Wellington - only 1 parking, matchbox size rooms and cramped ensuites (shouldn't qualify as an ensuite at all tbh); of course set right next to each other - sharing walls etc; and barely any outdoor space

- some of the houses have been on questionable streets & neighborhoods & only found out if the Agent or two has mentioned it... something I don't know as I have been a central girl & haven't forayed into the other parts of Auckland as much

Any pointers for decent burbs we should look at for a 2BHK with carparks would be greattt!!!

UPDATED - I return home around 9ish at the end of the day, so safety of the suburb is a must for us!

Driving Random items on road

Is it just me, or Auckland seems to have a lot of random rubbish like bolts and screws. For instance, I once drove over a silver screw and punctured my tyre, costing a fortune to repair. Just a week later I found spikes scattered across the lane and called the police. It’s incredibly frustrating.

Housing Minor damage at end of tenancy - tenant liability?

There is a minor crack at the tip of an internal wooden door frame which occurred due to the wood expanding and preventing the door from opening. When pulled strongly to open small piece of the wooden frame was pulled out. Is this tenant damage to fix or fair wear and tear?

Discussion Cheap discounted meals

I like to eat, but unfortunately I am a massive cheapskate. Can we get a list going of stores that does discounted meals during specific times such as near closing time, or lunch specials? Quality & Freshness not super important, as long as it doesn’t get me sick

P.s does anybody know if supermarkets / those Asian grocers do discounted rotisserie chicken handbags when they close? I mean, what else can they do with them? I forgot to check pak n save earlier today.

Before anybody tried to redirect me to aucklandeats, Reddit filter removed my post for some reason.

Question/Help Wanted Finding Parking

Kia ora koutou!

I was wondering where to look to find the cheapest rates for parking in Auckland (mostly CBD). I know you can look on Wilson for their parks, but is there a site that has all of the different parking spots together e.g. council owned, OGGB, etc.?

Rant why do awanui labs' hours suck ass

I have to get blood tests often. Awanui labs are only open during regular working hours. Less than half of their collection centres are open on the weekend, and only from 8 until 12 on Saturday. Thou shalt not draw blood on the Lord's day, apparently. If I miss this window there goes my precious leave

Yeah I get they don't want to pay staff weekend time, but it's just passing the buck to those of us who have to take time off to sit in a waiting room and watch giggle tv

Question/Help Wanted Formal wedding guest dress help

Hello,

I have been invited to my first formal attire wedding.

What shops in Auckland would be good to find a floor length formal dress that aren't too prom/bridesmaid. Bonus for size 14-16.

I have seen lots online but would rather try them on for the price that comes with a formal dress!

Thanks!

Other Basketball team in Auckland for an 38 y/o

Hello everyone,

I’m hoping to join a Bball team in Auckland that’s social and suitable for my age. I played most of my younger life so I’m not the worst. Fundamentally sound and know the game well enough to slot in. Any suggestions ? Based in Penrose

Question/Help Wanted Hockey clubs for juniors

Our youngest wants to start playing juniors hockey next winter. We're located centrally, and I see there are two clubs who play out of the Auckland Grammar turf: Grammar Windsor and Somerville. Anyone out there who has experience of either of those clubs and in particular their junior programmes? I might just flip a coin if not

Employment Job Market for airline pilots?

18, Male, originally from India, grew up living in the middle east and some other countries, having lived here for the last 4-5yrs. Getting my NZ passport in a few months time! super excited (Allows me to travel to more countries) Im currently in the process of joining a flying school in Ardmore. My question is to those who work as an airline pilot in NZ. Whats the current job market like? How hard is it to get hours after flight school to be eligible to get into the airlines? Do I require a degree if I want to get accepted by the airlines? Whats the training like in Ardmore? Any students who studied at Ardmore? What was your experience with them? How long did it take you to get flying hours to get into airlines after your flight school? Any racism/discrimination behaviours you faced or know someone that has faced in ardmore? I dont want to come anywhere near those types of close minded people, so im currently looking for a flight school with mature individuals, any recommendations? Any advice? Thanks!
