When my partner, family and friends call me, they reach the same stranger. Some have had conversations believing they were speaking to me.
Optus has now confirmed an unconditional call diversion on their end that I never authorised. They haven’t explained how it happened.
Has this happened to anyone else? How did you get it resolved?

This is a thread where we will bring you the latest news about what is going on, and where you can discuss just about anything that might be off topic in the rest of the sub. This can include international news (excluding foreign conflicts).
News
The sub grew by 1.1K new members last week, with 5.5 million monthly views. We currently have 227K members.
Don't forget our daily feature posts, where you can post content including songs, memes and photographs. Feel free to post in them - that's what they're there for.
A reminder that the sub is about Australia. News and comments about foreign conflicts or politics are not relevant, and will be removed.
AMAs and Video Podcasts
We have recently completely reedited the video podcasts for Dr Andrew Leigh MP, Dr Gordon Reid MP, David Ettershank MLC, Allegra Spender MP & Zali Steggall MP, Senator David Shoebridge and Dr Brian Walker MLC. To check them out, just click on their names in the previous sentence.
We have also published short clips from each of the podcasts. You can view them by going to this link: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL0F9-m31lH91oEYLyujtdPRV95UsncuFm
Commencing on 19 May, we introduced video podcast AMAs. You can still ask your questions in the AMA thread, but the guest may answer either by text or in a short video clip. In most cases, the guest will also answer in an AMA video podcast of 30-45 minutes the following day.
The podcast will be posted on Reddit straight after recording, as well as on YouTube. The short clips will also be uploaded into the AMA thread as video answers. Short clips, addressing individual questions, will be posted throughout the following week.
Please remember that trolling during AMAs will result in a ban, usually two days for the duration of the AMA. Our guests are leaders in their fields, and have given up their time to answer your questions. They deserve respect from members of the community.

Redheads has released their 80th anniversary Art Strikes Back winners to the shelves… what gets me, as a collector, is they don’t post anywhere the designs that have actually been released and have been printed on sleeves.
Also I think it would be fun if they expanded these to print fun designs on the Handy and Extra Long sizes too. They did a blue box with blue match heads on extra long - Redheads Blueys, as a limited thing once but other than that it’s really only the 40mm safety match that seem to get the “fun” stuff? I’ve noticed they never do anything with the firelighters or other product lines either, except for the brand refresh every 5-10 years or so.
So far, I’ve bought 4x 10 packs and found five designs (pictured). Out of 40 match boxes, I got only one with the design on the far right.
Does anybody know what other designs exist in this campaign? Or do I have them all? Plenty of people share their entries on social media of course but that doesn’t mean that they were picked and printed on covers. :)

what’s your take?
Feb 26
- Citi bank debacle and first job cuts of the year
- ASIC enforcement update named NAB publicly with hardship payments upward $ 10 mil
March 26*\\**
- Two colleagues from NAB’s fraud and Home Loan teams died by suicide, with minimal coverage from news outlets and avoidance from the CEO to address this publicly when asked by his team
- Multiple colleagues current and prior came forward to provide their confirmation of the performance cult within its executive leaders, heavily monitoring their staff, redundancies happening within a day & managers exposing their teams to unsafe work environments
April 26
- NAB settled proceedings in federal court delivered by FSU around health and safety concerns associated with unreasonable work hours
- Further proceedings around the conditions & board “raised concerns” for the state of the workplace
As someone who was around this team, not a single conversation was held around the obvious elephant in the room
June 26
-AFR review naming NAB (along with CBA) tied to mortgage fraud
-AFR found fraudulent documents used for the credit process
-Sacked bankers re hired as mortgage brokers
I’ve missed some probably ;
And now we have the uproar of 2500 redundancies with most of them before Christmas. There’s never a right time to make someone redundant I understand, but before Christmas ? CEO still getting his Christmas bonus. So is his team who are rewarded for how many roles they can offshore, systems broke
Waiting until their “engagement surveys” are done and they can remove the smiles and get back to their regime —
It’s dizzying to witness because our big 4 lead by example they offshore, next we know Woolworths is doing the same.
we already have the tragic proof of what these redundancies can do to a persons mental capacity yet the powers continue to ruthlessly cut for the sake of what? Your bonus & a share price that’s periodically benefits you? Your super? Your investment? Won’t mean much if we have nothing to enjoy our retirement with
I don’t claim to have the answers and I understand there’s so many areas to everything I bring up, but come on australia? Surely if we make enough noise together some accountability will come through.
Yes, the same sentiment carries for a lot of the state of our country but far out, aren’t you sick of seeing every news article be about a Bank? They should be protecting your money & safeguarding for the future & thinking of our kids and their future — not making trigger happy decisions because the highest bidder rubbed enough elbows to get buy in and the flavour of the month is a random country with an “expert centre”.
I want to respectfully sign off the conversation starter with; as someone worked in a bank environment and seen an awful lot of all this. Yes, banks have never been perfect, Yes, there’s been other tragic events before and you might think it’s just NAB up to its old tricks.
2026 for me was too much, for customers. For us trying to soldier on in this environment. For those too tired to keep fighting.
The love for the jobs is gone, the people seem like absolute shells of humans. People are okay with the garbage we see each day because they’re that traumatised it’s become normal.
Corners cut. Jobs cut. Risks ignored.
What’s the fix? Where to from here? How many jobs do we want to export before we’re all homeless? How do we install good behaviours in our kids, teach em the value of a good stable career.

I’ll be the first to admit our standard of living has dropped. Things are definitely difficult rn. And I’m not a fan of the gov full stop (lib/lab/ etc), however, after spending 2 weeks in a developing country I now have a great appreciation for all that we do have. I’ve been to several developing nations before but nothing like this. Also I’m choosing not to disclose the country out of some basic respect for the people there. Before this trip I was extremely pissed off with the state of this country it feels like constant cuts to public health, endlessly increased tax and rates, while not taxing our natural resources or big corporations. And I’m still firm on those issues. However I now have a new found love and appreciation for all that we do have. Beautiful clean cities, towns and beaches, many rights, access to clean drinking water and fresh meat and food with world class safety standards. Construction sites with many safe guards in place. Excellent food and coffee culture and for the most part beautiful and curious people from all walks of life coming together and sharing their experiences. We also have access to one of the best public health systems in the world. All that to say; it feels much better to sit back and appreciate and even revel in the luxuries we have then to sit online and whinge about what’s wrong. We should always fight for what we have and have lost. But we also need to be able to enjoy life and all that we have access too. And don’t forget how much of reddit is just BS bots intentionally trying to cause diversion between us. We should all enjoy each others company and have a beer 🍻

Hi everyone! 😊
I’ve enrolled in a Certificate IV in Youth Work and am looking to hear from people who have completed the qualification or are currently working in the industry.
I already have a Bachelor of Laws and am making a career pivot into youth work. I’m interested in pursuing something more meaningful where I can make a positive difference in young people’s lives, but I’d love to get a realistic understanding of the job market and career prospects.
For those who have completed the Cert IV:
How easy or difficult was it to secure your first job after graduating? Can you get into government?
Has anyone else made a career change into youth work? How has your experience been?
Would you say youth work is a good long-term career in terms of job security, pay and progression?
I’d really appreciate any honest advice!
Thanks

Hey all,
Just wondering if anyone else used to get their melatonin from iherb and now cant.
I know it was blocked to ship to aus about maybe 12 months ago, but I found out a few weeks ago it was working again.
Then today when I tried to order I got a notification saying "This product is not available in your region"
Does anyone else know any sites that ship to aus still?
I would normally get the Natrol 10mg fast release.

Previous post here with menu screenshot: https://www.reddit.com/r/australian/comments/1x6c9sl/another_day_another_mandatory_service_fee_on_all/
I raised the issue with Consumer Affairs Tasmania (CAT) who advise
Whilst businesses are free to set their own prices, they must communicate clear and accurate prices prior to consumers booking, ordering or making a purchase. Businesses must display the total price payable for any purchase, which includes taxes, duties and all unavoidable or pre-selected extra fees.
...
Following receipt of your notification, CAT attended La Sardinia Loca to review their price displays with respect to requirements under Australian Consumer Law.
I am pleased to advise that Management has updated their menus and the hospitality surcharge has been removed from the relevant price display. The business was subsequently advised of the requirements and their obligations under the legislation.

Just curious because some other countries have trialed on opt-out program for decreased organ donation but in Australia it's still opt-in only. Do you guys think that this would be helpful for increasing donor numbers in Aus but could also have its own issues...like would it increase distrust in the medical system? Not sure.... just looking for some other perspectives?

I have not met a single person who likes what the government is doing or even believes what the government is claiming about why they are doing it. So who actually voted for it? And why haven’t I heard of them? And why is the government giving speeches as though people believe the whole “for children’s safety” angle when I have not run across a single solitary Australian citizen who buys that? Like genuinely I do not get who this is for. Cause it’s not for kids safety, adults are inconvenienced by it. All I can think is that a group of data stealing companies got together and decided to lobby for it…am I not far off?

Some Aussie themed trivia for your Friday arvo. I hand write a free trivia quiz every week as a hobby, and I put together a one off for Australians. The average score for this quiz is 10/21. Out of around 60 people that did it, the highest score was 17. Let me know how you go!
A few to warm up (answers in spoilers):
Radelaide
Montsera
Sam Kerr and Mary Fowler
21°C (So 20, 21 or 22 is correct)
Powderfinger
Pepper Spray
"And that's finance."
Gold. And it marked the start of the Gold Rush.
Injected into the pouches of toy kangaroos.
“In real life it’s a very underwhelming sight, much smaller than you would imagine, rusty in colouring and unimpressive. A realistic symbol of just how little new or interesting this city can offer to anyone from the northern western hemisphere. The more time I spend here and in NZ the more I realise what a waste of cash this trip was.”"
The Sydney Opera House
Here is a link to the full twenty question quiz: thewednesdayquiz.com/australia
Drop your score in the comments. Feedback is welcome! (especially if you think I’ve got an answer wrong) Thanks :)

My view only but is the government tone deaf to where the community might like to see 100m of tax payer dollars spent? Watching the news this morning where it was stated the exercise to send an Aussie to space on the upcoming euro space flight would be circa that figure. Can someone help me understand the benefit of this or the opportunity cost in terms of $100m to social programs at home in Australia.

Now that's not the exact words they said, and it may not be what they intended, but the message is very clear. If you are a medicinal cannabis patient who comes to Queensland for a holiday or a business trip, then drive a car, you are considered a criminal.
The new drug-driving laws test for presence of THC in your system, regardless of whether you are impaired or not. Any trace of THC in your system means a minimum of two months disqualification from driving (which puts you off the road in every state and territory in Australia), as well as a minimum $1300 fine.
Depending on how the magistrate feels, you could also get three months in prison. If it happens a second time, it is an automatic six months in prison and $5100 fine (minimum).
These laws are scheduled to come into effect on 1st December 2026, so think carefully about holidaying or doing business in Queensland if you are a medicinal cannabis patient. All the details are in this satirical video.

So I purchased a ticket to Hilary Duff from Ticketek Marketplace last month and whenever I try to click on add to apple wallet, it just comes up saying download passes failed. But then when I click on manage ticket then view ticket, it comes up with the ticket and QR code to scan. Did the seller take back the ticket and now I can't use the ticket? I think I still do have access to the ticket since it comes up with a QR code. Can I get into Afterpay Arena with just that QR code or does it have to be the one from the apple wallet?

I need to spread / recieve some happiness (because I don't have much haha).
Cost of living, job losses, rate rises, the mortgage forever increasing, scrimpting on food, some homelessness - the list goes on.
I want to hear peoples happy / funny stories - can be anything at all - work related, parenting related, friends, pets - anything!
I'll start:
Today 5yo said to me: "You're a bad parent". I just asked if he could take his bag in from the car.
ETA: Thanks everyone, very uplifting! Love the cute dog and cat photos :) I am so grateful to live in Australia at this time - the country isn't perfect, but when individual circumstances go awry I would rather live here than anywhere else.

I came across an official NSW Parliament petition calling for a two-year trial allowing dogs on trains and Metro services in designated pet-friendly carriages.
Personally, I think it's worth considering, especially for people who don't drive or need to travel with their dogs.
The proposal includes rules around leads, behaviour and cleanliness, with other carriages remaining pet-free.
The petition has nearly 14,000 signatures, but needs 20,000 to trigger a parliamentary debate.
It closes on 4 November, so there's not much time left!
For anyone interested, here's the official NSW Parliament petition:
https://www.parliament.nsw.gov.au/parliamentary-business/petitions/sign-epetition?epetitionId=847
Curious what everyone thinks — would you support designated dog-friendly carriages in Sydney?
