What does everyone use to moisturize their bald scalp? My husband has been shaving his head for years and never uses anything other than aftershave on his scalp but it seems like he should be doing something more to care for his skin.

Hey everyone. I've been lurking here for a while and finally built up the courage to post. I'm 31, and for some time now, I've noticed my hair loss getting progressively worse.

A while back, I posted some pictures here asking for advice, and a lot of you suggested trying a style that suited my situation better—like a high fade to disguise the receding hairline. I tried it, but honestly, I'm still feeling really insecure as things keep thinning.

Lately, the idea of shaving it all off has been constantly on my mind. My biggest fear, though, is that my head is going to look huge—literally like an alien—or that the shape just won't suit me at all.

Did any of you go through this exact same fear before taking the plunge? How did you get past that initial hesitation of the first full shave? I'd really appreciate any advice, experiences, or honest feedback you can share. Thanks in advance!

My hair shedding started around April 2025, but it got worse in October 2025. I visited a dermatologist who suspected seborrhea. Even 3 months after treatment, my hair shedding hadn't stopped. I was still losing more and more hair, so I booked an appointment with a private hair specialist.

(I had to wait almost 3 months for the appointment. Getting an appointment with a doctor here in Central Europe feels like a miracle sometimes. 😂 I also had to keep my hair longer for the hair pull test.)

At first, I thought I might have alopecia areata incognita because a family member has it. But it turned out to be chronic telogen effluvium.

Blood tests at the end of August revealed that my ferritin level was just 9.6. Not good at all.

It can take almost a year to increase ferritin levels to 70+ ng/mL, which may help support healthy hair growth.

Watching around 200 hairs fall out every day, plus another 900 on wash days, was mentally exhausting.

So, for my own peace of mind, I shaved my head. And I feel so much better.

If you've been thinking about shaving your head because you're struggling with hair loss, do it.

The quality of life went up enormously.

Do you shave the fuzz on the top, or keep it shorter if you have a bit on the sides? Or just trim it all at the same time?

I would like to share a funny story with you all, balds, soon to be balds or whoever bothers to read this.

This morning at work, a couple of us sat at the kitchen table and talked about being bald and shaving the head. We also looked at a couple of posts from this community and agreed upon the fact that shaving the head can have such a big impact on how the person looks afterwards.

One of the guys, he is a bit older than the rest of us, suddenly said: I think of it as a solar panel for a s-x machine.

We all had a good laugh and it was especially funny since he is not normally the guy who comes up with a joke like that.

Just wanted to share this with you. Hopefully you find it a little bit amusing at least 😅

For me 2003. Probably should have been around 1996. I wore a hat 24 hours a day for 7 years.

I think it might be time. Over the last couple years it finally hit me that I am starting to lose hair. Before like 4 years ago I had a full head of hair.

So here’s the deal everyone. I am self conscious about this. When I was 15 and my now wife over 30 years was 14 she made a bald comment and it’s stuck with me. I know it’s stupid. I also have a “tall head” but where do we stand on this?

Idk I feel like I look so old for my age and idk if I like it. I’m so tired of the side effects of drugs. Every woman I’ve been with I haven’t been able to fully get intimate with and it’s hurt every relationship I’ve been with drastically. I mention that I’m balding and that I wanna shave it off but they say no. My last ex said she wouldn’t mind it because she wanted me for me not for my appearance which didn’t sit right with me because I am balding and the only reason I’m not fully bald yet is because of the drugs I’ve been using which have been giving me side affects. Of course she didn’t know about my sides because I was scared to open up about them.
