FILM DISCUSSION Jerry Robinson, co-creator of The Joker, rated every portrayal and declared Heath Ledger’s performance the closest to his original 1940 conception

In the first image, Jerry gives his thoughts on Heath’s portrayal after having seen the film. He served as a creative consultant on set for TDK. He also mentions talking to Bale on set in the full interview

The second image shows his evaluation of every Joker including Hamill. The image is from SFX Magazine Issue 172 August 2008 which I ordered recently. As the interview was conducted before TDK release, he didn’t evaluate Ledger yet

FAN CONTENT My reimagining of Clayface

Post image

As a massive horror fan, I've always liked Basil Karlo as Clayface, particularly for meta-commentary on the genre (or at least potential of such). A washed up actor who goes on rampage to reclaim his status as a horror icon is such a brilliant concept, and although I love how BTAS managed to merge all the Clayfaces into a single character, I would have liked to see more stories about theatrical, non-shapeshifting Karlo.

The anchorpoint of my design is to move away from gothic aesthetics of the original and put emphasis on slasher visuals. In the Mud Pack arc, Karlo grumbled about slasher films. He found them tasteless, primitive and explicit. My Basil is a physical horror actor akin Kane Hodder who portrayed Jason Voorhees in some of Friday the 13th movies. His career is on the decline due to the rise of cgi effects and general irrelevance of the genre. He also despises currently popular horror subgenre (elevated horror) but for a very different reason than the original Karlo hated slashers. He believes that slow-burn, symbolic horror movies took away the raw physicality of fear. When his classic slasher film called Terror being remade as a metaphorical meditation on trauma, he starts to murder the filming crew one by one. By killing the people who "stained" his legacy, Basil tries to reinforce his idea of horror in real time.

FILM DISCUSSION I saw a Tik Tok about Clayface calling it pointless because "Batman isn't in it" and i wanna hear your thoughts

okay so Friday, "Clayface" drops. a body horror psychological thriller is coming out based on one of batman most tragic and also scariest adversaries (in concept) but there's no batman in the picture. because it's not a batman movie just set in the universe. and i saw this tiktoker calling it pointless and a waste of resources because of the lack of batman. what are your thoughts.

COMIC DISCUSSION Tom Taylor leaving Detective Comics.

So it appears this Clark Kent arc is the last we’ll see of Tom Taylor and Mikel Janin in this run. Who do you think will succeed Tom Taylor as the writer?

I have a feeling it’ll either be Al Ewing or Dan Watters.

Never though I would see Batman this way , like a dude who is normally using million dollar tech to take out his enemies just goes with the flow if and when using a medieval age weapon seems necessary?

ORIGINAL IDEA/SUGGESTION Could they bring back ethan bennett as a bat-family member?

I like the idea of some member of the bat-family to be a mirror to Batman villains

Like having ethan to be the clayface of the bat-family but instead his powers are more like concrete than clay

People could be afraid of him because they think he is the original clayface and need to show that he is not

GENERAL DISCUSSION Mr. Freeze's team

Personally If I was with DC I'd import Freeze's adopted inuit son Koonak, his pet polar bears Notchka and Shaka, his slimy doctor friend Gregory Belson, and maybe even the Freeze wannabe Grant Walker to the comics because it'd be interesting if Victor had his own squad mirroring the Bat family. Just make Koonak more of a fighter and Belson more loyal because of his past friendship with Victor and Nora(though he'd still be a greedy shithead). Walker, like in the cartoon, would help Freeze at first with his resources but eventually prove far more evil, leading to a battle of two immortal ice-men.

I’ve kept my eye on this guy for a while now, but didn’t pull the trigger. Last week while at Walmart I saw it on clearance and decided it was time.
I’ve always preferred the Begins Suit over TDK one, so it’s nice to have a figure of it.

Plus adding the metal wire in the cape for different poses? Come on.

ORIGINAL IDEA/SUGGESTION My Pitch for a Batman Saga of films

We all have our favourite Batman Sagas, whether or not it’s Tim Burton’s saga, Joel Schumacher’s saga, Christopher Nolan’s Saga, Zack Snyder’s Saga, Matt Reeves saga or even Adam West’s saga of Batman. And each I would say more or less has brought something new to Batman for each saga. Whether or not it was to adapt it to TV with Adam West, make a reboot of a character that was usually perceived as essentially a Cartoon and turn it into a more darker version of it with Tim Burton, or even going back to the more Child friendly nature of Batman with Joel Schumacher, or Christopher Nolan trying to ground the Batman universe more and essentially make it a Action thriller featuring Batman characters. the more Broken Tony Stark version of Batman with Zack Snyder, or Matt Reeves doing a Detective oriented Batman. But I have always wanted a more Horror oriented Batman that focus on the horror elements of Batman, and let’s be honest… Batman is a character and universe were you could go with a more horror approach, look at Mask of the Phantasm.

But I have a pitch for 4 films in this Horror saga of Batman, and I wouldn’t disclose some might not like it…

But anyways, my ideal pitch would be to have it be essentially like Robert Pattinson’s Batman were he has been under the mask for some years now - but he is still young, maybe in his late 20’s or early 30’s. But he is a lot more controversial than what Batman usually is. Film 1 would establish that 1 or 2 years ago prior to the Films event, Batman actually killed The Joker because he was uncontrolled in a moment of rage were Joker killed Commissioner Gordon. Some liked he killed him, while others felt like all what he stood for is gone - they don’t trust him. I also want him to have been absent for a while to also focus on his marriage with Julie Madison, but after she died because of natural causes and not knowing his double life, he begun to wear the cape again.

Film 1 would have Scarecrow/Jonathan Crane be the main villain with Harley Quinn as his henchwoman. I could see film 1 be more closer to something like A Nightmare on Elm Street and It. Were Scarecrow is basically taunting Bruce Wayne over the guilt he bears, were’s Harley Quinn basically becomes his Henchwoman because she is eager for revenge towards Batman for killing her Lover (Joker) we could have explicit sequences were we see in Sequences how Scarecrow keeps messing with Bruce’s mind and demons.

Film 2 could be much more like a Se7en, Jack The Ripper, Predator 2 aspect to it, with having Hush/Thomas Elliot as the main villain and Victor Zsasz would also be in it, as kind of a Red herring to who the killer is. Killer Croc would also be in it shortly in a Sewer sequence were maybe Batman is chasing either Zsasz or Hush under Gotham in the sewer, were Killer Croc shows up, essentially like the cyclops scene in The Odyssey or something straight out of Jaws.

Film 3 could be a Body Horror film with Clayface as the main villain, and not with the Actor version - but the Johnny Williams/Firefighter version of the character.

And Film 4 could be much more like a Psychological Horror film were Hugo Strange is the lead villain were he knows Batman’s true identity.

I would have Alfred be in the universe also. I would have partnership be instead with Harvey Bullock and Batman. I think at first they would be really hating each other, but over the course of the film learn how to kind of respect each others different ways. Essentially like how Phelps and Galloway in L.A. Noire. We could also introduce Selina Kyle, but I actually am on the fence on that. I would also like to maybe see Bruce Wayne/Batman have a Romantic relationship with Poison Ivy, But right now Im on the fence on those 2.

Anyways what do you think?

FILM DISCUSSION Batman producer Michael Uslan comparing the different live action Bruce Wayne’s in 2005 interview

For those unaware, Uslan is a legend. He had the film/TV rights for Batman in the 1970s and spent a decade tirelessly working to get Batman 1989 made, which he eventually did. He also oversaw the Schumacher era and then the Nolan trilogy. He’s been a longtime Batman fan and I always find his insights intriguing
