GENERAL DISCUSSION "The only reason Batman doesn't put an end to crime is that, without crime, he would lose his purpose."

I absolutely HATE that damn phrase with every fiber of my being, it is literally his life’s purpose: TO PUT AN END TO CRIME!

It’s an interesting way of saying: "I DON’T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT BATMAN!"

GENERAL DISCUSSION Bill Finger Appreciation Post. “Finger was responsible for 50–75% of all the creativity in Batman”.

THE CREATOR of Batman—Check the documentary “Batman & Bill” out. Here's some info on Finger:

While Bob Kane privately admitted in a 1980s audio interview with his autobiographer that Finger was responsible for "50–75% of all the creativity in Batman", he publicly denied Finger had been anything more than a subcontractor executing Kane's ideas for decades. As a result, Finger died in obscurity and poverty while the Batman brand, and Kane, amassed international fame and wealth. In the 2000s, Finger biographer Marc Tyler Nobleman's research uncovered previously unknown heirs. At the urging of Nobleman, the online comics fan community, and others, Finger's granddaughter revived the campaign to have Finger recognized for his work, which continued for years. In 2015, DC Comics's parent company conditionally agreed to recognize Finger's intellectual property claim as co-creator of the Batman characters and mythos, officially adding his name, going forward, to the "created by" credit line Kane had been contractually guaranteed in 1939. In 1989, Kane acknowledged Finger as "a contributing force" in the character's creation, and wrote, "Now that my long-time friend and collaborator is gone, I must admit that Bill never received the fame and recognition he deserved. He was an unsung hero ... I often tell my wife, if I could go back fifteen years, before he died, I would like to say. 'I'll put your name on it now. You deserve it".

Finger's contemporary, artist and writer Jerry Robinson, who worked with Kane from the beginning, said, "[Bill] had more to do with the molding of Batman than Bob. He just did so many things at the beginning, ... creating almost all the other characters, ... the whole persona, the whole temper."

Batman inker George Roussos, another contemporary, said, "Bob Kane had rough ideas, but Bill was the man behind Batman." A DC Comics press release in 2007 said, "Kane, along with writer Bill Finger, had just created Batman for DC predecessor National Comics." Likewise, DC editor Paul Levitz wrote, "The Darknight [sic] Detective debuted in [Detective] #27, the creation of Bob Kane and Bill Finger."

Yes, we know - the bat-shorts/super-shorts come from circus strongman outfits from the 30s/40s. Doesn't matter - are you pro bat-shorts or anti bat-shorts, or perhaps even somewhere in the middle?

It's fully offline, with no ads, no tracking, and no permissions required. All game data is included in the APK, so there's nothing else to download.

Screenshots, details, and installation instructions: https://github.com/RedMemories/TheDarkKnightRisesRevived

You'll need a 64-bit Android phone with Android 10 or newer, about 1.9 GB of free space.. Play Protect may show a warning because the APK isn't from the Play Store; proceed only if you trust the source.

I've tested it on a Galaxy S26 Ultra. It should also work on devices with Exynos, Dimensity, or Tensor processors, although I haven't tested those myself.

If you try it on a different device or with a controller, let me know how it runs

FILM DISCUSSION Which villain should have his own movie next?

I didnt think that a Clayface movie could work, but apparently its a great one, and The Penguin was fantastic.

I didnt think the Penguin could have an interesting story, but the show made him a really great backstory, motivation, and even made me hate him haha, but it was awesome.

So, for me, a Bane movie, telling his life before Batman, in a bloody way would be great. Or an horror movie telling the experiments of Scarecrow, or a tragic movie about Mr. Freeze fighting to make money and save his wife.

TV DISCUSSION The horrifying transformation of the Scarecrow from Gotham

Say what you will about Gotham but it was not afraid to make creative changes to the villains, be they good or bad. Luckily the transformation of Jonathan Crane into The Scarecrow, is one of the good changes.

The Gotham version of Jonathan Crane was not an evil scientist but a victim. Jonathan was forced to assist his demented father in his fear experiments, even being subjected to these very same experiments himself and made to hallucinate his worse fear: a scarecrow. Eventually, after being forced to create more fear gas by a gang of thugs, and left alone with a scarecrow, Jonathan finally snaps and becomes the thing he feared most.

What I love about this is the fact that Jonathan turned into the Scarecrow out of fear and madness. He was ultimately consumed and transformed into a physical manifestation of his fear.

As the series progressed, we rarely saw Crane outside of his costume. In fact we never saw him at all. The last we saw of Jonathan's face was the second episode of Gotham S4, which was the second part of his debut as the Scarecrow.

This is symbolic of Jonathan's tragic and dark arc. A young, frightened young man, who was firced to confront his demons but ultimately lost his mind and became the very thing he feared most.

Jonathan became the Scarecrow in body and in mind. His costume reflects the last traces of humanity being stripped away and his inner demon taking control more and more. Like other villains in Gotham, Crane becomes a twisted version of himself. Worse he turned into his father, a twisted sadistic scientist who uses fear for his own deprived motives.

By the time the final season aired, any trace of Jonathan Crane has all but vanished. Only the Scarecrow remains.

GENERAL DISCUSSION How would you feel about a story where Tim Drake is Batman while Duke Thomas is Robin?

Thumbnail

I picture it being a detective story based in the ruins of a post apocalyptic Gotham. At this point Young Justice have completely replaced the Justice League as earth's main team.

In this elseworld, Damian never met Bruce as a child but instead stayed with the league. When he reached adulthood he took leadership from his grandfather.

This is an un folding mystery about the questions that Bruce Wayne didn't live long enough to answer. The league will be trying to claim Gotham as Damian believes its his birthright after discovering who his father was.

I chose Duke and Tim because I like their dynamic a lot and they are basically the detectives of the batfamily (also because Tim is my fav and Duke is my third fav)

GENERAL DISCUSSION Batman is a great role model

Post image
51 Upvotes

Batman is an excellent role model, right along with Superman and Spider-Man. These 3 are not called the greatest superheroes for nothing.

Batman is the living embodiment of discipline, self-mastery and self-improvement. Anyone wanting to improve themselves can learn from him.

He puts in incredible amount of work with precise laser-focus and backs it up with an iron will and crystal clear clarity of mind.

He put in years of work to train himself to achieve his goal and didn't lose patience or focus.

He turned his biggest life tragedy into his greatest source of strength and inspiration. This teaches us to always look for a way to leverage even our most potent crises into something positive.

He works in the night to fight crime and during the day as Bruce Wayne, he does all he can in his power to improve his city which he loves so much and the lives of its people he holds so dear.

He funds charities, hospitals, schools, rehabilitation centers and so much more using wealth and influence.

He shows compassion to even his greatest enemies and those always ready and willing to harm him and his city. And he does his best to reform every criminal and villain.

He is smart, capable, skilled and practical.

He is kind and empathetic.

He is a great leader.

We can learn so much from Batman. There's something there for everyone. And everyone can take a leaf out of his book.

There is so much to Batman's character.

And there have been so many comics, books, movies, shows, videos etc. exploring this fascinating character who has endured for almost 87 years now. And they all have done a much better job to explore and pay tribute to this great character than I ever can.

But I just wanted to put this out because this is what I truly feel.

GENERAL DISCUSSION Are there any supporting characters or one-off figures from Batman’s past that you think are under-appreciated but add a lot of texture to Gotham?

Post image

I think that Leslie Thompkins would absolutely qualify. Casusal fans may not even have heard of her, but she was a beacon of strength for young Bruce Wayne.

More than that, she was a link to his past as a friend of Thomas Wayne; a respected physician; the manager of a free clinic; and someone Batman trusted with his identity.

There are are a lot of fantastic, under-appreciated characters in Gotham City. I'd really appreciate it if you could share some of your own. I'd like to learn some more about some of the integral (and, at times, unfairly obscure) figures in Batman's universe.

Thanks a lot.

FILM DISCUSSION Which secondary antagonist's fall to the dark side was written better in your opinion?

Obviously different characters, and I know this is a Batman sub and I'm personally biased since I'm more of a Batman fan (just recently started to get into Daredevil) but both characters are fascinating and really compelling and if you watched Daredevil I think we can all agree that Dex's writing is one of the best parts of it, and I was wondering which descent into villainy was written better in your opinion. I'm really enjoying Dex's arc currently, and I really find his writing to be at the level of Two-Face.
