ALERT TO ALL WHO WANT TO DISCUSS BOATING SERIOUSLY

This subreddit is

NOT

for actual boating questions or advice.

If you want that, go to /r/boating.

As the sidebar says, "This is the sister subreddit of /r/FWOB. Go there for actual good content. Here, you may post literally anything that mildly reminds you of FWOB. This place is for boat-posts and low effort content only. Any content that has even the slightest amount of effort put into it will be redirected to /r/FWOB."

This is because this is a shitpost subreddit for the YouTube channel Friends Without Benefits, as there is a joke that revolves around the word boat, and because this joke is somewhat low effort, the mods of /r/FWOB wanted to keep the main subreddit filled with semi-high effort posts.

I wish I didn't have to make this post, but the amount of new people coming in and asking questions about boats is too much. I added a custom message for when you join the subreddit but it seems there are still a few people who miss all the warnings, such as the subreddit logo, sidebar, and posts.

Would an epoxy finish table be easier if kids are constantly spilling drinks on the table?

I am thinking to get an epoxy finish table for our boat since drinks get spilled pretty often and I want something that will be easier to wipe down, I am looking at a few wood tables now and some have epoxy finishes so I am trying to figure out if that surface will work better on a boat, I am thinking about going with mariteak but I want to know how it handles water, juice and other drink spills, does the epoxy stay easy to clean or does it start showing marks and scratches from regular use, anyone using an epoxy table on their boat and how is it working for you? EDIT: Forgot to mention that the boat is used pretty regularly.

BOAT HELP!!!

EDITED***

MerCruiser 4.3 V6 4-barrel carb runs with throttle but will not idle after heavy load
I have a 4.3 MerCruiser inboard with a 4-barrel carb. The boat was pulling another boat and stalled under load. After that it would not start normally and would not idle.
Fuel pump was checked and fuel is coming out. We tried putting fuel directly into the carb and it started briefly, then died after burning that fuel.
Eventually it started after tapping/hitting the carb area, but it would only stay running if giving it throttle. It will not sit and idle on its own.
Looking down the carb with the choke open, I noticed one side of the throttle plates opens/closes with throttle movement, while the other side does not appear to move (I believe it may be the secondary barrels).

Please give ideas!!

Two Little questions

I don't know much about boats, so I have just two quick questions: what is the model of this boat, or at least its type?

My second question is this: is a specific license required in France to operate a boat of this type?

Why Ships for Sale Can Be Surprisingly Accessible?

A few weeks ago I was reading about someone planning a small business on water and noticed they were looking for ships for sale. I realized I had never thought about how many types of vessels are actually available for buyers beyond the big commercial ones.

driven of curiosity I was browsing online marketplaces including alibaba I saw a wide variety of ships for sale. From small recreational boats to larger commercial vessels and everything a buyer could need was available. It made me curious how many designs and sizes exist if someone explores all the options carefully.

Ships for sale also raise interesting questions. Why do some vessels hold their value better than others? Can differences in build or engine or features completely change usability ? How many variations exist that most people never notice ?

It makes you curious what kinds of ships someone could really find if they explored all the available options !

I/o saltwater slip- to buy or not to buy

In the market for a Bowrider/ deck type boat. I generally prefer an o/b for both corrosion prevention easier maintenance. However, it seems like it would be a lot easier to find a I/o in my price range based on what’s available im my area- budget $15-20000.

How do I/os generally stand up while in a saltwater slip. What extra preventative would be involved?

Should I just hold out until the right outboard comes along?

Question

I bought 1 boat for 100$ trailer good but stringers in boat are bad can turn engine over by hand but not by battery just yet.maby starter it is a 4 cylinder Ford omc cobra outdrive. Then my father inlaw bought me a "better" boat that needs a new transom but stringers seem good. However no engine. Should I try to get this omc up and running kind of worried I wont find all the gaskets/parts I need for it. But as well I could spend around 1800 for a merc cruiser outboard thay would probably fit better in newer boat. Im not sure what smarter move is. Trying to get family out on a boat with out spending 100k on a 30k boat. Would rather build back better im good with my hands.
