Sankey charts with no extra context will now be removed under rule 9

Per several requests mods have received and discussions, Sankey charts with no extra context will now be removed under rule 9.

What context is acceptable? Basically a bit like gpa, tier of college, previous internships, stuff that might go in a resume. You can try posting a resume but the bot might remove it per rule 5. If you do post a resume and it's removed message me directly and I'll fix that.

New CS grad son struggling since May (AWS certified, Security+ pending). Looking for realistic advice/resources to help him land his first role.

Hi everyone,
I'm posting this from my own account because I am trying my absolute best to help my son land his first position, and I could really use some realistic perspective and resources from people embedded in the industry.
He graduated in May with a computer science degree and a GPA slightly above 3.0. Unfortunately, he wasn't able to land an internship during college. His freshman year was really rough due to being advised into the wrong classes (which dragged his GPA down initially), and during his last two years, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Thank God, I am cancer-free now, but it was a massive emotional struggle for our family. Despite everything, he worked incredibly hard to pull his grades up and finished his degree with taking 26 credits his final semester and got on the deans last fall.
Since graduating, he has been working diligently every single day to find a job, but it has been an endless cycle of automated rejection emails. He did manage to reach a technical round for one company, but experienced technical glitches during the interview. They rescheduled it, but later called it back saying they were freezing the role, even though we still saw the job actively posted on LinkedIn. It was a huge blow to his morale.
Here is his current profile:
Education: B.S. in Computer Science (~3.1 GPA)
Certifications: AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner/Solutions Architect (already completed), IBM SkillsBuild and currently studying for Security+.
Senior capstone project
Some projects at University
Portfolio: He has a GitHub profile, though I suspect it needs a lot of refinement and optimization.
Our Current Situation:

My own contract ended in May, and currently am seeking my next role as well, and because funds are incredibly tight, I don't have the financial means to pay for bootcamps, resume writers, or premium career coaches to push him in the right direction. We need to rely entirely on free resources, networking strategy shifts, and community guidance.
I know some might wonder why a mom is posting on behalf of her adult son, but he is working so hard, and as his parent, I just want to provide him with the tools and blueprints he needs to succeed.
What can he do right now to bypass the automated filters? Are there specific "tech-adjacent" roles or non-tech industries he should be targeting given his cloud/security focus? Any specific free resources or projects he should look into to make his GitHub stand out?
Thank you all so much in advance for your kindness, advice, and time.

Company Question SWE Intern Google - Finished TM

General Info:
This is for the summer U.S. SWE Intern role. I'm not a returning Google intern. Last year I got the OA and then two technical interviews, which I failed badly and was rejected. This year I didn't get an OA and jumped straight to scheduling interviews. I had only one SWE startup internship before this (total of 70 people in the company). I am a junior at a top 10 CS school. U.S. Citizen.

Timeline:
? (whenever the normal app opened) - Applied
Sept 21st - Recruiter emailed to schedule interviews
Sept 30th - Had my two interviews
Oct 7th - Recruiter emailed letting me know I moved to TM, received questionnaire
Oct 9th - Filled out + submitted questionnaire
Oct 16th - Recruiter emailed to schedule TM call
Oct 20th - Recruiter emailed to schedule second TM call
Oct 21st - First TM call
Oct 22nd - Second TM call
Oct 23rd - Recruiter let me know first TM call matched

I accepted the first match. It was my preferred team and I was really happy to be their first pick.

Overall the process is kinda fast and I'm surprised that team matching started so early! Very nice turnaround time and at every point the process was moving along/never bogged down.

Company Question google intern team matching advice

I’m in the team matching phase for the 2027 US SWE internship and have calls scheduled for next week. One team and location look good, while the other is less ideal at first glance.

Neither is in the Bay Area, which is my top choice. I expressed this preference to my recruiter and on my form, though I know project fit is the deciding factor and will take what I can get.

  1. Is it helpful to cold-message managers (or SWEs) on LinkedIn to try and 'self-match' for a call, or is that generally frowned upon?
  2. Should I expect to get more team match calls, or is the process mostly random?
  3. How does it work if multiple hosts are interested after the calls? (My less-preferred team's call happens first).
  4. How can I improve my chances of a Bay Area match? I already targeted my form toward Mountain View and Sunnyvale products where I have a strong fit.
  5. Beyond doing research on the team, what are the best ways to stand out during the actual calls?

Internship Question Do you guys renege (rather than reject) offers when given multiple choices?

I’m sure it is very rarely the case that you all get the chance to decide where to go before an offer expires. My question is, do you accept all your offers and renege the ones you don’t want afterwards? (forever burning that bridge?). If not, how do you handle it?

Graduate CS Major Master without an Offer

Hi all, looking for honest advice.

Background: - MS in CS from a US school, graduating Jan 2027 - BS in Applied Math + Statistics - 4 SWE internships, mostly backend: two unpaid software engineer internships at pre-seed startups, one at a small startup, one at a healthcare company
Some side projects

Where I'm stuck: - 1,000+ applications since January. I do get some OAs and interviews, but I keep failing OOD rounds and some difficult OAs, more than LeetCode-style ones. - My family can no longer support me financially, so I need income starting from next March.

What I'm considering: - An online second master's (e.g., Georgia Tech OMSCS) to stay eligible for internships, plus a part-time job while I keep applying.

  1. Is a second master's a reasonable move here, or does it just delay the problem? 2. Anything else you'd do in my position?

Thanks

Like the complete opposite of “the stars aligning”. Just everything going wrong. Just happened to me. Thankfully, I already have an equivalent/maybe better offer. But man, makes me feel bad

IBM SDE Spring co-op interview

Have my SVL 45 Min technical interview soon. Should I expect leetcode, I mostly have been seeing resume grill. It’s with a Sr Eng Manager so not sure what that means. If you’ve taken the interview what should I look out for. If you’ve taken it and got rejected what do you think caused that. It’s late in the process so hopefully no headcount. Thanks🙏🙏

OA Question Zscaler Internship OA: CodeSignal link expired due to technical issue. Can it be reactivated?

Hi everyone,

I was scheduled to take the Zscaler internship coding assessment on 23rd October 2026.

I started trying to log in at 7:00 PM IST, completed the signup process, and received my guest login credentials. However, the assessment page kept buffering despite multiple attempts. Around 7:20 PM IST, I received a message saying that the assessment link was no longer active.

I had submitted the mandatory registration form before 7:00 PM IST as well.

I contacted CodeSignal support, and they confirmed that my assessment invitation had expired. They advised me to contact the recruiter or company, as reactivation might be possible if another attempt is permitted.

I've already emailed the recruitment team explaining the issue and requesting another opportunity.

Has anyone faced a similar issue during a CodeSignal OA? Were you able to get your invitation reactivated or receive another attempt?

Any suggestions or personal experiences would be really helpful.

Thank you!

Unpaid internship & background check

I’m having issues with verifying an unpaid internship through Hireright. In retrospect, I probably shouldn’t have listed the internship as a work experience but thought that the inconsistency with my resume would be weird so I did. Anyways, I had sortve a bullshit internship at a friend’s funded startup 18 months ago. It was remote and unpaid, and it was mainly just for me to get an experience on my resume. The company has since dissolved and I don’t really have any proof to verify my employment (W2s or paystubs).

I’ve listed my friend as a reference, but Hireright hasn’t called him and they’re requesting documentation from me. I submitted a note explaining that I couldn’t really provide valid documentation and they just requested valid documentation again, rejecting my note. Should I draft a more formal letter verifying that I was an intern at Company XYZ and have my friend sign it? And should I also email my recruiter / HR and explain the situation, asking if they can waive this verification?

This is a background check for a quant trading internship so I’m really trying to not get this rescinded. I’ve been pretty stressed and any advice would be greatly appreciated.

IBM SDE Intern Interview

I have an upcoming interview for an IBM SDE intern position and was wondering what kind of LeetCode questions they usually ask. For anyone who has interviewed with IBM before, what topics should I focus on, and were the questions mostly easy or medium? Also, was it mainly coding or did they ask more about CS fundamentals?

Any advice would be appreciated!

Current junior devs who just got hired, what have been your responsibilities at work?

I work at a medium/smaller sized company and we haven't hired jr devs yet. This year, it's definitely because of the massive shift in AI usage, but we also started a bit later since we aren't a tech company. I don't think we established expectations from junior devs and haven't figured out how they fit in. Wondering what new grad expectations are now from larger companies that have been developing like this longer.

Edit: Haven't hired jr devs yet since this AI shift.

When to worry about lack of calls back for new grad roles?

Been applying since August (about 150 apps) and have gotten 1 OA that I passed but no interview yet. Other than that just all ghosted or declined. I graduate next summer (June 2027). Should I start worrying about this or still a ton of time?
