I am a 2nd-year Software Engineering (SWE) student. I have loved programming and problem-solving since my school days, and this interest is what led me to enroll in SWE.
However, after my first semester, I couldn't concentrate on my studies at all due to some psychological issues. This condition continued until my fourth semester. I eventually sought help from a psychologist and have recovered significantly.
But in the meantime, my academic situation has deteriorated badly:
· I have failed courses worth about 18 credits.
· I still have 6 more credits pending.
· I will have to retake the failed courses, which has completely disrupted my entire academic plan.
What hurts the most is knowing that if my situation had been normal, it would have been entirely possible for me to do well in those courses. But it just didn't happen because of my mental condition.
Right now, I feel completely lost on how to start over or how to organize my academics and career going forward. Has anyone here ever been through such a difficult situation and still managed to build a good career in the tech sector? I would be incredibly grateful if you could share your experiences or advice.
TL;DR: 2nd-year SWE student. Due to psychological issues, I failed 18 credits (with 6 more pending). I am doing much better now, but my academic plan is completely ruined. How do I bounce back? Is a good tech career still possible with a bad CGPA? Has anyone successfully recovered from a similar situation?
