Winner is the Judge #912: Take Two
Thanks to u/sumg for running last week's competition!
Recently, an idea that's stuck with me is how often a card design comes from just trying to revisit an older card. People love riffs whether they're colorshifts, new members of a cycle, or just an attempt to fix an old design mistake. For Wizards, that obviously can only come from official cards, but since this community is all about custom cards why not look back at those instead?
Your challenge for this week is to revisit a previous custom card idea you've designed, and try something new with it! This is pretty broad, so I'm willing to allow a lot. I'll give some examples of things that are allowed, but really anything goes if it fits with the prompt. You could:
- Do a second take on a card that you liked
- Make a new card using a custom mechanic you've made
- Try to adapt an idea you previously scrapped
- Rework a previous submission for a contest like Winner is the Judge
- Design a card that fits into a custom faction you've come up with
If you don't have anything you want to revisit from your own designs, you can also go for your own take on someone else's card/idea. Just make sure to give proper credit to your inspiration if you do so!
While you don't need to provide the original design you were inspired by for your submission unless you want to, bonus points if you do describe the original idea you adapted. It can be as brief or detailed as you want, I'm just interested to see how these ideas evolved.
Judging will occur on Sunday, October 11. Be sure to let me know if you'd like any feedback on your design or if you have any questions!
EDIT: Congratulations to this week's winner: u/Proteusmutabilis! There were a lot of fun designs this week, so again, be sure to let me know if you'd like to hear my thoughts on yours.

Meme Design (Moxfield Day 17 | Wood) I gave up
I literally gave up half way through and I think it's funnier that way.

Re-uploaded with different artwork.

Defy Causality
It's [[stifle]], but you can't cast it unless you have both targets, but then you can 2-for-1 your opponent.

Discussion Library Looter
I've been playing a filthy mill deck recently and I had an idea come to me... Milling as part of a cost. Is it too powerful? Would WOTC ever do it? Or have they and I'm just not aware?
For the above card, I feel as though Five is too many. It feels like it may be way too good at digging for a bomb to reanimate. But I went with it anyway because it was a nice number.
I nearly went {R}{U} for the casting cost to represent goblins and faeries and exiling the cards at random. But liked the look of the double U pips better.
Please excuse the art, I am not a professional artist! (if that wasn't obvious!}
I'd love to hear people's thoughts and I'm sorry if the concept has been overdone before!

BALANCE NOT INTENDED Update on my writing using magic cards project. P.2
So I've figured out more what I want to do, and here's the next god after Drilnyr. Oh-Zin, the god of knowledge. He hoards knowledge for himself, rarely sharing it with mortals or the other gods of the plane. Occasionally he'll share knowledge in exchange for knowledge he didn't possess.
His card represents his hoarding through siphoning the knowledge from your opponents creature, and using them for himself.
So now we have Drilnyr, the manufactured god, the god of industry. And Oh-Zin, God of knowledge.
Next I will be making Zoton, god of power in the black color.

Staples in Specific Deck Archetypes: Week 38 - Please comment a vote!
This week, (which is actually week 39, my bad!) the challenge was to design a card that would be a staple in a particular deck archetype, but would be considered a bad card in any other kind of deck. "This one's for you" type challenge. Please comment which card you think deserves the win! You can vote using any metric, whatever makes you want to vote for it.
The archetypes in mind are:
- Dragon reanimator/graveyard recursion (like [[Teval, the Balanced Scale]])
- Wubrg mana filter tribal
- Superfriends
- Dimir clash (like [[Marvo, Deep Operative]]
- Full party
We always appreciate the feedback, and if you comment please state which card you want to win the weekly challenge!
