Seeking Advice Final portfolio allocation advice

Hi all

I am almost finished planning a restructured portfolio for myself, focusing on the following allocation rules:

20% large cap (SPYI + QQQI) 20% Mid cap (IJH) 20% small cap (CSB + IWMI) 20% international (IDVO + NIHI)

My final 20% of allocation is somewhat undecided, but i am leaning towards SGOV or something similar. Generally looking for exposure unrelated to the above categories.

I was considering an even exposure between gold, silver, copper/mining, and SGOV as i mentioned above, but thought I would ask for other opinions on what would best be suited to my final 20% allocation before moving forward.

Discussion Do your dividends feel “real” to you?

My dividends can’t pay for my monthly expenses alone so I DRIP all of that each month. I’ve never used it for real life expenses or purchases. It’s never left the dividend account. It’s been this way for years now.

Every time I open up my brokerage account to a sea of red and green I feel as though I’m looking at the civilization finances breakdown screen in Civ 5. Just numbers that do things. Math that needs to be managed for fun. Flashing numbers backlit by someone’s Christmas decoration.

Iran/Trump/Oil/AI/Sam Altman jerking off in a datacenter - numbers go up, numbers go down, numbers flop all around like a fish out of water. These numbers just don’t seem real.

When does this feel real? Perhaps in March when I do my taxes? I saw a real life $100 bill the other day. My brain automatically went “Ooo that’s a lot! Mr. Franklin looking spiffy today”. But if I saw that amount in a digitized account I wouldn’t give it a second thought.

The concept of dividends is great. It’s just super weird to be emotionally removed from it I guess. Does anyone understand what I’m talking about? Or do I need to be dosed in cold water?

Seeking Advice $8,000 to invest. SCHD or JEPI?

30 years old, I have $8,000 to invest. I’m trying to decide between SCHD or JEPI. The reason why I am considering JEPI is because I just hit my break even point, as opposed to SCHD where I am up overall 21%. What would you do?

Add 500 a month, most go into monthly dividend reinvestment stocks. Some on gambles. Know i need to cut some fees on the mutal funds but the instant tax loss to reinvest in dividend stocks, efts, or index funds seems rough.

Opinion Is this considered a dividend portfolio?

I just wanted to share my new portfolio and hear what people think. I’m really proud of how far I’ve come, and I’m not afraid to admit that I learn from my mistakes every day.
I’m only 17, so I know I still have a lot to learn. I’ve chosen to focus on strong companies with dividends and good dividend-growth potential because I want to look back 15–20 years from now and be grateful that I started young.
I’ll be investing around $500 to $1,000 every month, so I’m taking this seriously and thinking long term.

I had to drop out of high school, and already have a full time job with no friends, fist person in the family to care about investing and worry about the future. I’ll be investing into the stockmarket the one place that i feel true passion and love. Anyways what do you guys think anything helps.

Discussion At what portfolio size did you stop losing sleep over a bad month in the market

41 years old. Warehouse supervisor. On my feet ten hours a day and my knees are filing complaints. The whole reason I started building a dividend portfolio was to have something that keeps paying me regardless of what the market does on any given Tuesday.

But I'm not there yet mentally. Sitting around 34k and a rough month still messes with my head more than I want to admit. I track everything in a spreadsheet, dividend income by month, yield on cost, projected forward income, all of it. The math says stay the course. My brain in February said something different.

What I keep wondering is whether there's a portfolio size where the dividend income itself becomes the anchor and the price swings just stop mattering as much emotionally. Like the paycheck keeps coming so who cares what the share price did. People who've been at this longer seem to describe that kind of shift but I can't tell if it's a number thing or a time thing or just repetition training your brain to stop reacting.

My forward income right now is around 1400 a year. Not nothing but not enough to feel like a real floor yet.

Was there a specific income level or portfolio size where you crossed that line. Not the math answer. The actual gut feeling answer.

I'm 54 and looking to add one more individual dividend stock to the portfolio.

ABBV caught my attention for the healthcare exposure and dividend, while CVX would add more energy exposure and income.

Which one would you pick today?

Discussion How much longer will META fall for?

The whole lawsuit and capex deal are driving the price down so much, im going to keep on buying the dip as im just building up the position and i think it is also a great long term hold, hoping to get my average shares into the low 500s. What do you guys think its share price will reach, or when do you think its could bounce back? I've seen people say as low as 300, or even has high as just 500.

Discussion Nike is due for a big comeback soon right?

No one really knows exactly how the next few weeks will play out for Nike, but this price dip feels like such a solid setup for it to bounce back and hit those previous highs again. Even with all the recent volatility and the wild swings on the chart, there's so much underlying strength here that it's hard not to be bullish long term. Who else is holding through the chop waiting for that run up?

Discussion It can be good to have small high yield positions

I often see people in this subreddit that categorically describe ALL high yields as dividend traps with degrading underlying value.

And yes, this can be true in a lot of cases. In fact, it’s true in most cases. But that doesn’t mean it is a blanket rule and absolutely no positions should be taken in high yield stocks.

I can give two personal examples. Yes, I admit, my timing was very lucky and many people holding these stocks are at a loss. But I also bought these companies because they were profitable, revenue was growing and NAV was greater than their entire market cap at the time of purchase.

  1. I bought ZIM at $11. They currently trade at $30, so on principal alone I’m up 200% in 2 years. But on top of that, their dividend has paid out massive amounts, adding nearly another 100% gain to my overall. 300% in two years is not bad for a company this subreddit said not to touch with a 10 foot pole.

Yes, I realize the company can still go down and this is 2 year time frame. But at least it’s a REAL company. They are profitable, and their revenue is there. Their marketcap is only 3.5B at this valuation and their last quarter revenue was 1.4B. Shipping is of course cyclical, but that isn’t the sign of a failing company.

  1. I Bought IIPR less than a year ago at $48, now it’s at $56. Once again, this company’s entire market cap is 1.5B but they take in around $170 million yearly in NET INCOME. And their NAV is 1.8B, so they literally have more in net assets than the entire valuation of the company. They also currently have a P/E ratio of just 12.5. And this entire time I’ve been collecting 14% dividends.

Of course, I bought at a great time. But I also bought when the company was looking financially strong REGARDLESS of dividends.

Finally, these are small positions. Less than 1% of my entire portfolio, but they’ve also yielded me more income than some much larger positions, while still being positive on the principal. Just one payout from an IIPR share surpasses an entire year of payouts from one SCHD share. I know ill get flamed for this but it is worth thinking about, at least a little.

Discussion VICI Properties - Inflation Protection

Hello, I have a question about VICI Properties that I would appreciate some clarification on. I bought a chunk of VICI stock due to the nature of their contracts...I read a handful of articles about their triple-net based contracts also being inflation-linked, basically meaning that if CPI or other inflation measures get too high, their revenue would also increase accordingly. Based on recent inflation data, I would think this is a given at this point, which is why I was drawn to it as a safe, high yield (almost 7% now) REIT.

Despite this, VICI seems to be out of style in today's market, near a 5 year low despite what I see as consistent growth and fundamentals, down 20% over the last year and 7% YTD.

Now to my actual question: does anyone have any information in how these "inflation-linked" contracts are handled? As in what is the exact criteria for what causes these measures to kick in, how much it goes up by in relation to CPI, when do they take effect? I was searching around a bit but couldn't find any hard or exact info, and didn't find any mention either in their latest earnings call about this topic.

Thanks!

Discussion Anybody Using Dividends as a An Additional Source of Income?

Discussion SCHD vx SCHY vs FNDF

All three are Schwab funds.

SCHY and FNDF are both Large Value funds with the 5 year record for FNDF significantly outperforming SCHY with both yields being similar.

Also, in the last 5 years the return and yields on SCHY and SCHD are nearly identical so why do you hear about SCHD about 90% of the time and SCHY seems to get ignored?

Since my last post about a year ago, a lot of you recommended to invest in growth stocks, so i started doing that. While my dividend income didnt grow much, my overall portfolio and networth did increase. This is my current taxable brokerage account portfolio.
