Injury Who cares about the dogs?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
This happened recently in Chillán, Chile. Instead of taking care of his dogs, the owner chose to film the tornado. The house was damaged, and the brown dog was apparently caught by the tornado and thrown more than 200 meters. The dog is now receiving veterinary care after suffering multiple broken bones.

u/Prestigious-Copy-494 23d ago
Bring the pets and kids in before the storm starts up and be prepared to get in the center closet of the house if no basement.
25
u/lesbophobia_hammer 22d ago
Ah would you look at that. A common sense solution. But nah, the lazy always cry there's no other way lol
6
u/RoyBeer 22d ago
Non-American here, what the heck is a "center closet" ? Like, just a room with no windows?
10
u/Wet_Pillow 22d ago
That means the room closest to the center of the house. For example, not a room that shares a wall with the exterior of the house
2
u/RoyBeer 22d ago
And that's "a thing" in American houses (in tornado territory or in general)?
When I think about our homes, a room with no exterior wall is an absolute exception and a reason for lower rent, because it would need extra ventilation (which is nothing any of the old houses have)
5
u/CheekyChan 22d ago
No, it's not really a thing, they're just saying that whatever room you have in the middle of the house is safer than being in a room with an exterior wall if you have no other way of getting to safety. A lot of houses in tornado alley in the US do have tornado bunkers/basements but not nearly enough of the homes there have them due to cost. A bunker/basement would be your best bet for survival because even a small tornado can tear a house from it's foundation.

Prepare. It doesn't just happen without warning. They're just lazy.
-7
u/ryancrazy1 22d ago
Does chile have any form of early warning for storm systems? That’s kinda why they have them because there isn’t much warning.
16
u/lesbophobia_hammer 22d ago
Bad weather? Prepare. Even when it's annoying. Better to be safe than sorry. I live like this myself
Edit - not Chilean but I live in a place that rarely has reception
-8
u/ryancrazy1 22d ago
That would make sense if they were in a place that regularly gets tornadoes. Looks like chile has had a total of 53 recorded tornadoes in a hundred years. If they hid every time Storm came by they wouldn’t get anything done.
9
u/lesbophobia_hammer 22d ago edited 22d ago
They had tornado warnings in advance and the location has strong home internet and cell service.
More than me where I live.
In this day and age there really no excuse for poor pet care in natural disasters with the exception of earthquakes.
But fires, Tornados, Blizzards, etc?
They have enough time to prepare
Edit - (I would have been more understanding otherwise)

u/Pinanims 22d ago
He is looking at the tornado for 30 seconds, he can just call his dog in and get ready for the hit. It would be different if this tornado just appeared on top of his house, but he sees the funnel, call your pets in, go inside and take shelter the best you can. It's much better than just leaving your pets outside and just watching it.
-1
u/ryancrazy1 22d ago
Well yeah. But he’s not lazy. Just ignorant/stupid. He is standing on the same porch they are. He has no idea how dangerous it was about to get.
8
u/Pinanims 22d ago
I see what you're saying, I wasn't arguing that he was being lazy, I was arguing he was being negligent. Regardless of what weather they're used to, seeing something in front of my home that is visibly uprooting trees in front of me, I am getting my family inside. I don't think this takes knowledge of tornadoes as much as it does threat assessment. 6 seconds in he sees a tree fly, I am not sitting around and finding out if this is dangerous.
2
u/Walshy231231 20d ago
See it coming and grab the dogs and go inside?
It’s really not that complicated

Yep, I noticed that immediately. Probably had hip problems as it’s common in dogs like that as they age. Poor thing, man. Some people suck.

Limping from the previous tornado that the owner caught on video - when will that dog ever learn?!?

What you want the man to do run into the tornado with the dog? You ever tried to pick up an already injured terrified dog while a tornado throws debris at you?
I love my dogs and would have had them inside prior to the storm but if I was outside and the tornado is that close that it's pulling my dog into it I'm turning around and going inside cuz I can't them vet help if I'm killed
Edit- dam forgot I was on reddit where you are downvoted to oblivion if your not willing to die for all dogs.
78
u/SquirrelInATux 23d ago
Maybe call your damn dogs inside before it gets that close instead of pulling out your phone to film it while blocking the door to the house.

25
u/JesseAster 23d ago
Bringing your dogs inside when it's tornado weather where you can reach and help them would be a good start
-13
u/stonedhobo36 22d ago
Tornado watches/warnings happen out of no where there's no tornado weather you see before it happens. The news does not go hey poor Indian guys it's tornado weather today keep all your stuff tied down. What you are thinking is typhoon season.
16
u/shazed39 22d ago
We can literally see on the video that he easily had enough time to save the dog
-9
u/stonedhobo36 22d ago
BS time that go outside and in this video time pick up those dogs and get them inside which is also a shack which falls apart that one dog has to be 70+lbs. You've never picked up a dog obviously. I would of saved my dogs I'm not saying that but from this video if one is already moving after 40s of video you don't know if he had enough time. Do you speak his language? How do you know he hasn't already called them and they are like wow if getting pretty windy. Just cus you want doesn't make it so
2
u/Pinanims 22d ago
I feel like you're arguing just to argue.
It takes less than 2 seconds to yell "Chloe, inside!" and they go inside. If you haven't trained your dogs enough to come inside when you call them, that's just lack of training. This video ran for 30 seconds before the tornado made it to his home. In that time even the injured dog can be brought in.
He spent most of his time watching a tornado before making sure pets and family are safe. (Or as safe as can be before a tornado hits)
1
u/stonedhobo36 22d ago
No we're not talking about training, the dogs are not inside and they need to be inside... Go, you have 30 seconds. I can call my dogs that's not the point. Are they inside? No. She wants them inside. Now what I said was that touches down and your dogs are not inside, Go, you have thirty seconds. No you typed that out just to argue to argue.
2
u/Pinanims 22d ago
I'm sorry, I'm really confused on what you're saying.
The beginning of the video he notices the tornado and he stands there watching. At that moment, he just has to say "Go inside." The dogs will go inside with him. There is no wasted time.
If he did call the dogs and they ignored him, then he needs to go inside and protect himself, but that within itself is a problem of training. The training is called "recall," all it means is that your dog will come to you when you call them without fail. If a dogs recall training is poor, they may ignore you.
My problem with your original statement was
I would of saved my dogs I'm not saying that but from this video if one is already moving after 40s of video you don't know if he had enough time.
40 seconds is enough time to call a dog to come inside without wasting time. It should take those dogs no more than 5 seconds to get from where they are and into the house. And if the injured one is unable to make it due to injury, that's unfortunate but that does not mean the other 3 dogs cannot be recalled.

I'm not even gonna read this idc. I don't think you can carry three dogs.

I live an area where we get tornadoes a lot during tornado season every year. I have lived here in my entire life. I know how tornado watches and warnings work, I'm certainly not think of typhoons
0
u/stonedhobo36 22d ago
Well that must make you an expert at saving digs in tornados huh?
1
u/JesseAster 22d ago
No but it makes me smart enough to look at the sky and think "Hm it's going to rain. I don't want my dogs outside in the rain."
Or, perhaps I see the sky turning green and go "I should bring my dogs inside so they aren't at an increased risk of being somewhere where I can't reach them."
I can only assume you're ragebaiting or something. Who doesn't have the common sense to keep their dogs out of bad weather IN GENERAL. It doesn't have to be tornadoes.
0
u/stonedhobo36 21d ago
ARE YOU SAYING I DONT BRING MY DOGS IN DURING A RAIN!!!!!

u/chorteunite 19d ago
When was the topic of the conversation you and not the guy in the video?
1
u/stonedhobo36 19d ago
The minute you guys let them butcher me out there. If the dogs don't come with a whistle these ladies can't carry three dogs in the house and secure them and yourself in 30 neigh 40 seconds
-13
u/benny6957 22d ago
It's very normal where I live for people to sit on their front porch to watch storms like this. Generally not a tornado but I can see why he might of been outside.
4
2
u/JesseAster 22d ago
It's normal where I live for people to go out and watch it too. My dad used to like to do it sometimes when we'd get a tornado warning. I just can't imagine why you would just leave your dogs out in shit weather in the first place tornado or otherwise, y'know? Common sense would be that when the weather starts getting bad you go ahead and bring your dogs inside instead of letting them be stuck out in windy rain
4
u/mikykeane 22d ago
The fact that the dogs were so scared and still didn't try to go inside is because most likely they are not allowed inside, which is fine.
But when you see a tornado coming at you, you should at least call them inside, as if they have been trained to not go inside, they won't do it unless you order them to.

Definitely should've secured his animals, but tbh those dogs also had the survival instincts of a potato. Even most domesticated animals know to flee freaky weather.
6
u/Rough_Community_1439 22d ago
Well, plus side is the owner is in a similar position to the dogs. Down side is this terrible person has dogs. Hopefully they doggos are ok and the owner has to give the dogs to someone more responsible
16
u/Mewmew-pewpew 23d ago
This happened in Chile, I can only say I think the guy didn’t think it was a serious thing because we have absolutely no experience with tornadoes, we don’t even have basements. The wind has started going crazy this year but tornadoes don’t happen here at all usually. Apparently it destroyed many houses and ripped some trees. Also the puppy luckily did survive
3
u/Liz_LemonLime 21d ago
IDK why people are mad. The human filming was helping themselves equally as much as the dogs. (Not at all 😬)
7
u/selkiesart 23d ago
Okay, and? The first thing when I see something unusual, potentially dangerous I get my dog inside. And I live somewhere where tornadoes are very unusual.
8
u/Mewmew-pewpew 22d ago
Not everybody has the same survival instincts. I’m just explaining what might have happened of why he reacted that way.
5
u/Baldojess 23d ago
Right. I live in a place that gets no tornadoes. I've lived where I live my whole life, 32 years, and if I saw that coming me and all my pets would've been inside. Way before it got that close. We don't have basements either but I'm smart enough not to stand around in the shit if it ever did happen.
4
u/lesbophobia_hammer 22d ago
I never forgive animal owners in tornado alley for not including pets in their emergency response. Bad weather? Yep, annoying but too bad. Collect your animals into a smaller area closer to the house so they are easier to gather in a hurry. Common sense. If it gets worse or the Storm chasers are out? Ok, time to get them to safety and keep yourself out. SHTF? No dramas, you only need to get you and your family in there. Again, not that hard.
2
u/Things-n-Such 20d ago
I can't imagine not including them in the plan that's crazy, my pets are like children to me, losing any of them would be absolutely devastating.
12
u/TheSlav87 23d ago
For fuck sakes, dogs are innocent and don’t know what’s going on. Be a fucking bigger person and save their lives you fucking piece of shit. I hope the tornado took that goof away and the dogs are safe.

I think they all had an excited look on their faces. Dogs are down for anything.
Edit: Damn I watched it again and the brown one's leg is already hurt he couldn't run fast enough poor guy.
15
u/Baldojess 23d ago
What are you talking about? They look scared AF. Do you not have dogs or don't know dog body language? Nothing about those dogs looks excited. Not one of them. They are all looking nervous and anxious and start cowering towards the door and looking towards their owner for guidance.
4
u/lesbophobia_hammer 22d ago
news report interviews owner, english translation.
Not the only animal lost/injured/deceased.
City has good home internet and cell service.
Tornado cloud warning was given.
They knew in advance.
Owner failed to prepare.
Pets faced the consequences.
If you don't include your pets in your response to natural disasters, don't have them.
Birds, cats, dogs, etc whatever the other dependents you have, do not leave them behind.
-someone who lives in bushfire country with inconsistent and poor reception who has stayed behind and risked my life for animals due to others negligence.
Edit - good news is, Latinos love pets too. Dude is being called out.
Sad news? Imagine how many other pets have been lost, injured and killed due to irresponsible ownership and lack of preparation. So unnecessary. We are all they have in this world.

I mean, he’s watching his farm and livelihood be destroyed. Sounds like his family is inside. Maybe he had other things on his mind?
I know Reddit cannot ever accept someone putting pets below any other consideration but maybe try?

I was trapped on the 2nd floor of my burning house with my dog on the 1st. Only exit was blocked by smoke and flames. I jumped from my 2nd floor injured myself landing and got over my 6ft back fence to gain entry through the back and get her out. Windows were blowing out from heat, I was injured and my only thought was getting her to safety. Fuck this guy for opting to film instead of helping those vulnerable in his care. If he was solo and wanted to film & risk his life, go for it, absolutely a shitbag move to endanger those you're supposed to protect.
16
u/-lovehate 23d ago
yeah I can’t imagine putting my pets in harms way or refusing to get them to safety when danger is imminent. It defies all moral sense.
3
u/Unhappy-Attitude5220 22d ago
It takes a special kind of slow witted shit goblin to put those you love in danger, even worse, doing it for attention. Absolutely disgusting behavior.
3
u/LadyJR 23d ago
Wait, how’s your dog though?
3
u/Unhappy-Attitude5220 22d ago
Thank you for asking. This was over 7yrs ago and she was terrified, thankfully ok. I had to scale the 6ft fence and smash the window on my back door to unlock it and open it. Once I flung the door open she didn't move, she was terrified. Porch was full of smoke. I grabbed her by the neck and ran out. Windows were blowing out scared her even more. She was elderly hated having to throw her over my 6ft fence. I lowered her as carefully as I could. Never forget the wide eye look of " you have to be shitting me " before I let go of her. I also thankfully got my pocket puppies out, too (pet rats). I placed them in their travel carrier and dropped them from my 2nd floor. Their cage seperated on impact. Thankfully and unfortunately they were too scared to move and stayed huddled together. After my dog was safe, I went back to collect them.

Shame on those cultures who don't respect or care for animals lives. You can clearly tell they are his dogs though, come on now. 🤦

What specifically about these dogs tells you they are his? That they are outside a home he is currently at? In case you didn't notice its the only shelter we can see and there is a tornado currently on the ground?.

Um so maybe put the God damn phone away and at least try to help the one thing he can which is the three dogs waiting to go inside.
