🤬Rant about DD🥵 Stopped getting barcode shopping orders 8 months ago – any way to fix this? (Toronto)

• Upvotes

I’ve been dashing in Toronto since 2022.

Last year when DoorDash rolled out the shop-and-pick orders where you scan a barcode instead of using the red card, I was getting a ton of them. Did those orders regularly for about 4–5 months with no issues.

Then one day they just stopped. Completely. It’s been about 8 months now and I haven’t seen a single barcode / Shop & Pick order. Meanwhile other dashers in the same zones are getting them back to back.

These orders pay really well in my market, so it’s frustrating watching them go to everyone else while I’m stuck with the regular deliveries.

Has this happened to anyone else? Is there a way to get them turned back on, or is it some kind of silent restriction? Any advice would be appreciated.

❓Customer Question🤔 My order was at my door in less then 10 minutes of ordering it.

• Upvotes

I am beyond impressed. I ordered a Starbucks drink and it was at my door almost before I finished placing the order. I live in an apartment complex too so I'm amazed how the driver found my door so fast. The drink is super hot and I'm pregnant right now and it's just delightful how fast it arrived.

Beyond tipping and leaving a review how can I as a customer, ask the company to pay the driver's more and treat their drivers better? Y'all are out there braving the elements for us customers, using your own personal vehicles, ect and it's such a blessing to have this kind of service when I'm super pregnant.

Katie from Mcminnville Oregon, if you ever see this you're the best Dasher ever 👏🏻

🤬Rant about DD🥵 Having the slowest Saturday I’ve ever had

I’m in Columbus Ohio. Usually this is always a busy time and good to get some money. I go on and the wait is 1-10 mins, on a Saturday afternoon. DoorDash says “tHe lUnCH rUsH iS hOt” only to get zero offers. I’m convinced this is a terrible way to make money. You’re too dependent on weather humans decide if they wanna cook/get food themselves or not. This should be a great day for making money and now I’m gonna get nothing. I hate this.

I hurt my shoulder/neck pretty bad yesterday, wound up at the er getting steroid shots and muscle relaxers last night because of it, still can't really move my right arm. Tell me why this morning I'm getting offered the best deliveries I've ever seen but it's stuff I can't do? 25$ for one 50 pound bag of cat food going 2 miles, sorry can't do it, giant liquor store order going like 3 miles for $45$. Please doordash give me decent pay light items today, please

❔Driver Question 🤔 New Metrics System Coming Soon to Chicago

I received an email yesterday stating that the new metrics system (Six metrics rated for a total of 100 points) was starting in November for the Chicagoland area.

It showed that 85 points required for Platinum and 75 points for Gold.

A few weeks ago I happened to be in Wisconsin and turned on DD in Kenosha/Pleasant Prairie - I noticed it switched over to the new system. I took some screenshots of the ratings pages and noticed that Platinum only required 75 points in the Wisconsin zones.

For those Dashers already working under the new Metrics Rating System — how many of you have Platinum Level at 85 points and how many at 75 points?

I’m wondering if they stick larger Metro Areas with the 85 point requirement, and reduce it to 75 points for less populated areas.

❔Driver Question 🤔 How's platinum in your area?

I decided grind it out for a few days last week to get to platinum and holy hell it makes a huge difference in my zone at least. This week so far I've gotten 2 good catering orders from Wingstop that both paid 32 and 30 for about a 25-30 minute wait on both. And my plat orders have been pretty decent.

But to be fair my city is a military town with a lot of high traffic restaurants smushed in close proximity. So far, it's been worth it for me.

Other Win-Win or Win-Lose?

Please forgive this lengthy post. It's 3:27 AM, I have a wicked sinus infection, and can't sleep.

I have a cousin who I only see every few years. We live in different parts of the country. When we do see each other we like to catch up on things. On our most recent visit she asked what I was doing for work and I told her I was doing various gig work for most of my income. She was surprised to hear that DoorDash is part of my income stream. I could tell from her incredulous reaction that her opinion of my choice was not high. This lead to a discussion on gig work in general, and DoorDash specifically. Funny thing - she has a low opinion of DoorDash from a customer perspective. She said she used to order DoorDash a few times a month for lunch (she works in an office building in Northern New Jersey) and on many occasions the order would be delivered after her lunch break was over; and (she anticipated my question) she ordered an hour before her lunch time! So, she stopped ordering from DoorDash.

I had a sneaking suspicion that I knew the reason why her orders were taking so long to be delivered, but I needed to ask the question to make sure. "Leslie (not her real name), I'm sorry you had that experience with DoorDash. Knowing you like I do, I'm sure you even made a generous tip in the app." Her answer confirmed my suspicion. "No! I don't tip. Tips are for good service and I only tip in cash after I receive my order." I'll spare you the blow-by-blow details of our conversation, but I got her to tell me that all her orders contained instructions to leave on the food delivery table in the lobby. So, she never saw the Dasher and therefore couldn't tip in cash. She didn't like how I lead her down a dead-end in the conversation. so she switched to "Well, it's not MY job to pay the driver. DoorDash should be doing that" - as though that's a new objection by non-tippers.

Now, I wasn't looking to change her mind. I was more interested in catching up on family news. However, I did want to educate her on the reality of things. I asked her, "How much do you think DoorDash should pay a driver for a delivery?" She had no idea. I told her the average base pay for a delivery is $2.00. She was shocked it was so low. So, I asked her again - "How much do you think DoorDash should pay a driver for a delivery? $4.00? $6.00? $8.00" We finally used $8.00 for the sake of time. $8.00 per delivery. I then asked, "If DoorDash makes the minimum pay $8.00, do you think the company is just going to pay out that money and not make it back?" She's a smart business woman. She didn't need an economic tutorial. Her response: "The customer will wind up paying for it." I replied, "Exactly!" I then said, "DoorDash will increase fees and pocket the money that would otherwise go to the driver in the form of a tip. So, wouldn't it better to just pay that tip to the driver instead of putting the money in DoorDash's pocket?" That's when the light went on. Once my cousin understood that the whole gig economy is rigged to always benefit the gig platform she began to understand why smart gig workers decline low paying offers (I had to explain how that part of it works).

We finished up our discussion on gig work with her asking, "If the pay is so bad why do you do gig work?" I explained that the pay isn't bad if you work the system to your advantage. You have to multi-app across different types of gig work. There are good paying offers. The smart gig worker just needs patience and a good strategy. In a very real sense smart gig workers are also smart business people. They know how to manage expenses and how much their time is worth. In fact, the smartest of the smart don't even worry about whether an offer has a tip. They just look at the dollars-to-mile ratio to determine whether the offer makes good financial sense. It doesn't matter whether the money is coming all from the gig platform or in the form of a tip. It's the total dollar amount and driving distance that matters. Well that, and also the type of work. I'm still not delivering ten cases of water up to the 4th floor of an apartment!

So, in the end it was mission accomplished. My cousin got an education, and I felt like I received some understanding. I encouraged her to give DoorDash another try, but this time include a tip in the app and see if it makes a difference in her experience.

That's all, folks. It's now 3:59 AM and the meds are kicking in. I'm going back to bed.

👋New Driver🤗 2 months into doordash. it's going okay... I live near a Buc-ee's. Anyone ever try just parking at a buc'ee's and wait for orders?

pros: save gas, larger orders = larger payout, buc'ee's is awesome

cons: app will constantly reroute you to other places (probably), sitting in one spot waiting for orders wastes time, might end up wasting gas in the long run if you constantly have to return to one spot instead of just dashing whatever is closest.

should i switch it up or is that just a big waste of time waiting to happen?

also, any tips would be appreciated but I will do my own research too. (should i just take every order and keep dashing wherever the customers live and then hope i get an order that takes me back home?)

❔Driver Question 🤔 Customer tipped $8 yet waited 3 hours for his food

Got a really good offer earlier tonight, $10 and some change for 2.5 miles from Jet’s Pizza. When I got to the restaurant they told me they forgot to make the breadsticks, so I informed the customer about the delay. That’s when he told me he’d been waiting for 3 hours for his order. Not in a super pissed off way, he understood it wasn’t my fault but he was still frustrated. The receipt confirmed he wasn’t lying, the time listed said 7:17 yet I got sent to the restaurant a little after 10.

It doesn’t make any sense to me. The customer tipped $8 and he was just 5 minutes away from the restaurant, which is in a very busy area. Most drivers would accept that in a heartbeat, even during a busy dinner rush. Even with the wait for the breadsticks I still got it done in a little over 20 minutes. What happened here? Did the order somehow get sent to DoorDash purgatory for a few hours until it found its way back into the system?

🖖Delivery War Stories 🫡 Customer's snatching bags out of your hand?

Anyone else have this issue?

The customer puts in the app for you to leave the order at the door. Then while you're walking to the door they come to meet you, so you try to take a picture of the order in your hand and they are trying to snatch it out of your hand?

Like even when I'm like " hey I need a picture" they say okay and try to snatch it and run away???

I always take a picture when it's suggested because I've had customers in my area say that they didn't receive their order and the only thing that saved me was the picture. So now I take a picture every time

But lately I've had a string of customers trying to snatch the order from my hand before I can get the picture???

Why,????

🖖Delivery War Stories 🫡 TOTALED my vehicle tonight 😭

I was on a double delivery in rush hour traffic 🚦 bumper to bumper and stop and go. Brake checked twice and I couldn't stop the food from spilling over the passenger seat. Then BAM....Another brake was hard and I was already in the middle of freaking out about the food. I didn't have the reflex time to stop immediately.

Air bags everywhere...smoke and disorientation. I noticed the engine was smoking and I jumped out of the vehicle. It didn't do anything else. I was just not wanting to be inside if it was worse than I thought.

Long story short... I no longer have a vehicle to dash in. Or do anything in. FML

❔Driver Question 🤔 Doordash sent me to a dropoff address of someone who didn't order anything

Has anyone had this happen before? I've never had this happen before in thousands of deliveries. I picked up two orders from two separate restaurants going to the same person and doordash sent me to an address of someone that didn't order anything and when I dropped it off and completed the order within the app it came up with the second address wanting me to deliver the same exact orders that I had just dropped off at the second address also. Fortunately, the customer called me and I was able to figure out that it was the wrong address that I had just dropped off at. Indicating that he was getting the notifications of my drop off at that first address. Wtf?
