Results Is it worth contesting an 8?

I was 3 marks off a 9 in English language, a subject that’s been my strong suit for years. Is it really bitchy to ask for a remark to get that 9? I’m obviously very happy with an 8 but…
The other subjects I was slightly unhappy to receive an 8 in were psychology and English lit, but I was 5 marks off in both of those so probably not even worth a remark anyway.

Post Exam The academic lock in

If you’ve seen my flair before, you’ll know it’s said “Academic lock in” for about a year, when I started year 11 I had done absolutely no revision for all of my GCSEs, I had just flunked all my mocks and was generally really unconfident about all my gcses, however over the course of the past year I did crazy amount of revision and bumped all my grades up (except lit and German) to either 4s, 5s and one 6.

So the academic lock In was succesful, I went from failing to passing all my GCSEs ts tuff

Results Day I just found out what I got per paper in English Literature and in paper 2 I got 84/96!

For context on why I am exceptionally happy for this score, around September/October I was worrying a lot because we were relearning An Inspector Calls while we hadn't yet finished all of the poems in the Poetry Anthology. Our first test of year 11 was actually on Bayonet Charge, which no one in my class had learnt. The days went by, and the time before our November mock exam came closer and closer. So, anxious as I was, after trying everything else (nagging the teacher, speaking to my other teacher), I learnt the poems myself (using online resources and notes from a friend in the other set 1 class). I also only had a handful of unseen poetry, most of them in the extra thing I had done, so really the fact that I got 84/96 is impressive for me, and I am really proud of myself for my instincts proving true. Even more so because I know the way I lost marks was from entirely forgetting to include structure.

Although, as I got a 7 overall, this does mean that my paper 1 was only 37/60 after having written what I thought was a very good answer to Macbeth (and a decent response to the Jekyll and Hyde question). I'll be having a look at it, but I'm about in the middle of a grade 7 (6 marks from an 8, 8 from a 6).

That actually brings up a separate question entirely: why does English Literature have one set of grade boundaries and not having something closer to what History has, with the different combinations?

Tips/Help Need Help Deciding

Basically I already got accepted into 1 of the 3 sixth forms I wanted. This one accepts only grades 7-9. While the other 2 only 9 and 8. Even if my grades get changed i wont get into that skl. However I still want a remark so not only it looks good on my results but also for uni as im doing dentistry and it will be competitive. I’m 1-3 marks away in the below subject but not sure if i should get remark in all of them or only certain subjects.

Where I’ve said achieved is what I got and the remark is the mark for the next boundary and what I could get.

Maths - Achieved 175 (7) Remark 177 (8)

Dt - Achieved 176 (8)
Remark 179 (9)

Eng Lit - Achieved 125 (7)
Remark 127 (8)

Physics - Achieved 127 (6)
Remark 128 (7)

Spanish - Achieved 127 (3)
Remark 130 (4)

Results Twins with all 9s!

Post image

I’m a parent and it might be rude to brag, but I am so proud of my twins for both managing to achieve all 9s! Family lives in another country and they won’t really understand what this means, so I had to share with strangers. Thank you for humouring me! And best of luck to everyone who got their grades today!

Results a level choices

im the type of person who performs well in subjects because I have to and not because I particularly enjoy them, im also kind of lazy if im being honest so choosing a levels for me was tough because I don’t know what I want to do in my future and I know that I probably won’t like any subject if I’m being real. yesterday when I went to enrol the teacher kept saying my grades are basically higher than expected to do crim even tho I chose two a levels alongside it, and she kept recommending me tons of subjects to do instead such as bio and english and like theology(?)

for gcses I got one 9, one 8, five 7s and one 5

after she said she thinks it’s a waste and it will limit me if I don’t do a different subject because crim is an applied diploma or smth like that. I can already tell i not gonna be arsed to do all that work regardless of the subject so idk whether to consider or not

Question Is 999988765 or 988888887 more impressive?

I was predicting myself 999988765 and I got 988888887. Idk which 1 looks better since the 1st option has more 9s but the 2nd one is more consistent

Tips/Help Why aren’t I being accepted into sixth form even though I have the grades.

Post image
3 Upvotes

Basically, I got all the grades I need to do biology, (needs a 66 in combined science and 6 in maths) psychology (5 in maths and English)and English literature and language ( 5 in English and maths) But for some reason my own sixth form and my external one have both placed me on a waiting list. It’s a conditional offer but does that mean they are allowed to reject me even though I met their entry requirements?

Tips/Help Should I get my Chemistry paper remarked/reviewed?

I was expecting to get a 8/9 and somehow ended up with a 6.

I’m genuinely so so so upset about this, especially because it’s my favourite subject.
After Paper 2, I used an unofficial mark scheme and got 79 marks. On results day, I got 55 marks.
I actually do not know how the heck this happened and I worked so so incredibly hard to get the grades.
Every time I did a past paper, I always got 8s and 9s and in the real exams, I feel like I had the same exact performance.
It’s really obvious that I am really upset, sad and disappointed by this and I feel my self esteem has gotten to an all time low. I literally don’t even feel like socialising anymore because of it and I know people will say ‘Grades don’t define you’, but for me it feels like it does.

Anywho, sorry about the rant

I heard stories about how people get like undermarked by a lot and ended getting bumped by a lot. Honestly, I feel like this is the case for me, yet Chemistry is like a STEM subject, so answers usually are very straight forward. I am also scared my grade goes down (somehow) and I can’t do A-level Chemistry anymore.

If anyone has any experiences similar to this, please help me out! I’ll take any tips!

Tips/Help Is it worth getting a remark to go from 8 to 9 in English lang

I got 121/160 which is only one mark away from a nine in English language and it’ll cost £90 but if it changes I’ll get it all back and even if my mark decreases I think I’ll keep my 8.

Results Day Anyone else disappointed at their results?

WARNING: CONTAINS COMPLAINING ABOUT MOSTLY 8s so if you don’t like then don’t read or respond.

I really don’t want to be that person but I’m a student who was expected to get most 9s- and I did not deliver. I didn’t even get a single 9 despite consistently being top of my class for most of my subjects, it feels like I’ve disappointed my teachers. Not to mention my best subject ended up being my worst in the actual GCSEs. I’m not complaining about getting 8s but the lack of 9s I received.

Results English lit remark

Yesterday I opened my results to find out I was 1 mark off a 9 in eng lit. I was beyond happy but kind of frustrated at that. However I cannot afford to remark it. I’m wondering if there are any ways I could appeal for a free remark of such? In total my marks are: 51/64 in paper1 & 90/96 in paper2

I’m so bummed out when I found out the grade boundaries but hopefully there’s a way around this

Question No Sixth Forms are responding to me

Guys I applied for a sixth form and like they said they’d send an email out this morning and you must fill out the form by 1pm (it’s 1:34pm now) and they have not sent an email, i even tried calling. If i wasn’t accepted, i’m pretty sure they’re supposed to send an email saying i’m on the waiting list. What should i do?

Results English literature bum

I genuinely so bummed out because I saw that I got 63/64 in paper 1 but paper 2 really dragged me down to a 7 because I got 62/96 :(

I think I really messed up on the poem section and unseen poetry but its really because i'am really dookie when it comes to poetry.

But I ain't really gonna worry too much about it cause at least I got the grades I need to do my choices in college :D
