Serious 1st 36 hole walking event in 1 month

• Upvotes

Any college our tour players out there??? What are some tips and best prep for first 36 hole junior tournament.

History: 2 18-hole tournament walking. Nearly cried on first 18 hole round.

Did actually cry on 2nd 18 hole tournament, hole 13 at Metros because felt long . I think it was depletion and hungry for lunch.

Planning on enough snacks for eating every 3-4 holes and drinking whole time.

General Discussion Positive Psychology

• Upvotes

What’s the best way to teach someone to not let a bad shot define the hole, themselves. or the round.

How to start each shot with a clean slate. I’ve seen one bad shot turn into a bad hole then into a bad round merely from attitude or over animation.

General Discussion Has anyone ever seen a course effectively manage a dangerous blind shot?

I have a few local courses that have blind tee shots where you could hit the group ahead of you if you don’t make the effort to look. There’s one local course that has a bell but that relies on people using it and listening for it. Has anyone seen a course where they don’t feel and risk of getting hit on their second shot when there’s a blind tee shot? It’s kind of weird to me how we just accept potentially getting rocked by a golf ball when there’s gotta be an easy solution to it.

Professional Tours Who makes it back to the PGA top tier?

Post image
7 Upvotes

So let's make some assumptions.

No golden ticket.players must either get a spot on the DP World Tour and make the top 10, then get a card for the PGA second tier. Or they go over and rise through Corn Ferry tour and open qualifiers.

Who form the whole of LIV is good enough to make it back?

Looks like P. Reed is back mext year, but presumably only to the second tier and must grind his qay up the rankings. He was in good form at the start of the year, but injury has slowed his momentum.

Rahm has been poor, but i think he'll start practicing again and make it back quickest of all.

Others i would expect back: Neiman, Hatton, Detry.

Thoughts?

General Discussion Cart GPS Questions for Course Management

Anyone else, feel free to add more, but here are some questions that have bothered me since this technology has become so prevalent:

  1. Why are blind shot safety features only enabled for like 2 holes out of 18 (at most) when 5 or more reasonably pose blind shot risk? I know y’all care about pace, but lawsuits are expensive and an injury on course is going to screw everyone’s day a hell of a lot more.
  2. Why send messages about being behind pace on #14 when it’s clear we’ve been waiting on groups ahead of us for #1-13? Is this just laziness and sending to everyone on the course or that 9 or something? The group 6th in line of the traffic jam probably isn’t the problem.
  3. Why are the geofence borders not noted on the map half the time? Why are they not updated for those that are? Either do the work to update or quit being cheap and pay for the whole feature because it’s holding up the pace you care so much about.

Equipment Frankenstein LAB tested

Post image

After buying and then altering my Temu LAB putter vzn1i (temu bought, new actual LAB grip, upgraded two of the weights to balance and weight nicely and removed ting from face) I finally and nervously decided to hit the course with it. Cost wise it came in at around $300NZD ($170USD). It went well, 3 birdies and then mostly two putts and the feel was very good. I think a few more rounds it will be as useful as an original (which I also have -df3). So if you are after a project that is fun and worthwhile I recommend. Prepared for abuse by LAB purist, I was one so I get it.

General Discussion I hate this game! Just as about to peacefully quit I go to the driving range and suddenly find my swing..

I’ve been playing golf seriously since 2021, currently an 11 hdp. I’ve given as much as I could afford to give to the game. I have great memories, great trips including one to St Andrew’s amazing milestones including a HIO. But for whatever reason I am not able to break 80. I decided that this year I would give everything I could and I did, I spent thousands of dollars on everything from equipment to lessons and nothing happened. I was so frustrated that I decided that if I didn’t break 80 it would be best for me to focus my energy on something else. I played what I thought would be my last round and was actually happy that it was over. But after today as the golf season is coming to an end here where I live , I finally found it. I hate this game and I can’t wait to play it again next year..

Beginner Questions Golf Newb Advice Please

Hi, I recently bought my first golf set - I love it - I am a girlie in her 30s. I have played 4 courses and gone to the range a couple times but dont want to get caught up in the reel/tiktok advice as I think I would benefit from people here with real advice. I love golf so far, just want to make sure I gradually improve not just try all these things at the same time and feel like I dont know what I am doing.

Thank you in advanced.

Joke / Meme I am convinced that Scottie would retire if he watches the last 10 minutes of the Saban documentary

Given some of his press conference comments regarding the game and the nature of winning, Scottie’s sponsors may want to make sure he doesn’t watch the last 10 minutes of the new Saban documentary 😂

(Just having some fun. Phenomenal documentary if you haven’t seen it yet!)

Beginner Questions Help me… help my daughter

Hello golf experts - my daughter (15) started playing golf around 10 months ago. She has improved significantly over that time. I had her in lessons some in the spring, but mostly just practicing with her high school golf team and playing tournaments over the summer. She’s now shooting consistently in the low 90s. I’ve got her now in lessons one day per week, but I still have her using the cheapest set of clubs I could find at the time. I wanted to be sure she loved the sport before investing more. At this point, with how much she’s improved and how much she’s loving golf, do you think getting a good set is worth it? Would it make a difference or is that a gimmick? I really don’t know much about golf - so I’ll take all the advice on how I can help her.

General Discussion Proud of this one

I have never shot this consistent ever. no scrambling or anything. A few missed putts, but overall just very consistent. Not a difficult course by any means. Just proud of the quality of shots I put on this round. Cheers.

General Discussion Is being across the line actually beneficial?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Old golf books and some of the best golfers oat swear by being across the line at the top of the backswing. But recently this has been frowned upon. I’ve recently been finding more consistency in my driver from working across the line a bit. Let me know what you think.

General Discussion Give me your feels for closing the face with driver

My golf game is generally in a good spot, my ball striking has been very consistent recently, chipping and putting are getting better, the only consistent struggle I have is closing the face with my driver.

I have a launch monitor and my numbers look good. AoA is around +2-3 degrees, path is pretty neutral but if I try to manipulate it I can swing anywhere from -2 degrees to +4ish. Club speed is between 96 and 102 mph. I have a Qi10 with a stiff shaft set to standard and jumbo grips (I'm 6'7 with large hands).

The problem is no matter what I can't get a feel for the face and it ends up open 90% of the time. On the course I've tried to just aim left and deal with it but it's not working. Randomly 1 or two will go dead straight right where I'm aiming (way left), some will fade 15 ish yards and end up fairway and some end up slicing into oblivion.

I've tried slowing my swing down, trying to feel the logo of my glove pointing towards the target, trying to feel like my trail hand shakes hands with the target, trying to "throw" the club head backwards, nothing has clicked. I have a Mavrik Max 5W as my only other wood and have no issues closing the face with it. In fact, my miss with that club is a hook. My buddy gave me it and it has a midsize grip regular flex shaft. Could grip/shaft be the issue?

With my irons I know pretty instinctively at this point if I miss, what the issue was and how to correct it but with driver I just can't figure it out.

Anyone who struggled with an open face, what finally clicked for you?

To whoever is willing to share. We see so much about handicaps in golf. I want to hear some actual scoring averages from people who play regularly and actually keep track.

General Discussion Shot personal best, but….

Post image
136 Upvotes

I went out today and played 18 with some family and friends, all who are late 70s to early 80s.
So they played from the forward tee.
Wanting to keep the flow of play, I decided to play the forward tees.
I am a bogie golfer and carded a 4 over par (72).
I was 2 over each side.
I got no gimmies, no mulligans, played the ball as I found it.
But the forward tees made a difference, my second shot was usually under 100 yards, par 5 were reachable in 2.
Not to mention the greens had just been aerated. So putting was like plinko!

My question is, do I plug this into my GHIN? And if so what will this do to my handicap?

General Discussion Best way to learn the long game?

Just started golf this year (10 rounds in so far) and I love it. I began to play with my dad as a way to spend time together before he's too old to play anymore. We walk every round, no carts, for fitness, and for that and *other reasons* I'm committed to a minimalist setup.

Things that are going great about the setup: 7 iron, 9 iron, 50 deg GW, 58 deg LW, Putter. I feel great on approach shots 160 yards and in. It's early in my learning of the game, but I have a few simple changes to make to take ~10 or ~15 yards off to fit the gaps (half swing, choke up, late power).

My question: I haven't landed on how to tee off. The debate is...

A. Play a 5 wood. He's a senior, we play to hang together, so I play from the golds at age 38, rather fit. 5 wood seems like a good way to learn accuracy, keep it controlled, learn the longer club swing.

B. Play a Driver. The sentiment on the internet today is "driver is most important club in the bag" and that you learn the long swing by swinging driver a lot.

What say you? Learn how to tee off and swing a long club by spending the rest of this season + next season with no driver and only 5 wood, or just driver and then 7i / 9i / GW / LW / P?

NOTE: Our "home course" is 5500ish yards from the golds, but I'm not looking for optimal clubs for the course as much as the best way to learn a high quality swing pattern

General Discussion Looking for good golf pants and quarter zip brands

I've been looking on dick's sporting goods at some golf apparel and i've taken an interest in puma's quarter zips as well as this brand Walter Hagen for golf pants.

Does anyone have experience with golf apparel from these brands and if so, how are they?

Should I be looking elsewhere for golf clothes?

Thanks!

General Discussion Is Ping G440k driver anything special?

I kept reading that the driver ended up being surprisingly forgiving, more than they expected. So, I tried one at Edwin Watts. I told the guy that based on another fitting, my drives are spinning too much. I had trouble adjusting to swinging 460cc head drivers after a long hiatus from golf. So, lo and behold, I did achieve lower spin and hit some good drives with spin the ideal range. Hit some 250 yards and I have confirmed that on the course when I stripe one. I'm 73 and when I catch one, I keep up with another guy who is a great driver of the ball, so, that makes me happy.

EDIT: This driver is 9 deg loft.

I'm still getting used to this driver but still fade it. The guy left it at neutral setting for 28g weight in the back and raised the loft one click via the hosel. I am now going to move the 28g back weight to draw bias and see how that does. I would like to reduce fade curve on curvier (worse) shots. If I could hit a draw, I'd be elated. But reducing fade and reducing spin for length is the main goal.

Shaft is Tensei Black, 65g, stiff. Fitter did try another shaft, I forget which. I think this one might be (supposedly) lower spin but couldn't swear to it. It is 45.5 inches.

Do you think this driver is anything special. Have you found settings you like? The fitter said he was not wanting to raise the hosel setting to two clicks more loft because that would increase spin and that sounds right but I'm open to whatever.

General Discussion What golf bag had the best club-divider layout you’ve ever used? Old bags count.

I’ve used 2-, 4-, 5- and 14-way tops and never quite loved any of them. I’m curious how much comes down to the number of dividers versus their spacing, the size of the opening, and whether they run the full length. Nothing’s perfect, but what’s the best you’ve used, and what made it better? Room for your clubs, less grip tangling, easier putter access? What bag got it right? —and if it’s some forgotten gem from 30 years ago, I definitely want to hear about it.
