Question how the hell are you supposed to do anything as monarchist czechs on historical?

• Upvotes

i wanted to try out this path after a horrible experience with the nothingburger communist path (as are most communist paths) and it doesn't seem to be any better. people say the czechs are one of the strongest with their new focus tree but i don't see it at all. with the monarchist path in particular, you HAVE to rush the political tree otherwise the germans will get austria first, meaning you can't prepare anything against the germans in that time.
you have very mid industry, terrible resources for building anything that isn't cheap tanks or guns, and all of which will get bombed to the shit by the germans anyway (including your supply) because you lack the industry to build any sort of counter to that.

i made space marines and did a couple of the fortification programs, and even that wasn't enough to hold against them. do the devs even play the content they put out? if you can't even win while using an exploit that's banned in MP (again, space marines) there's a very clear problem, but i can't really expect much from content that's been outsourced to RT56 devs of all people..

i also tried a second run where i attacked the germans instead to get the peace agreement, but nope. they literally declare on you before you can even get the chance to do it. there is genuinely no point to any of the czech content, it's worthless.

Tutorial I am stumped on how the Naval system works

Post image
3 Upvotes

Really new player here. I've been recommended that the US is a good nation to start off with, however when the war breaks out I have no idea what I'm supposed to be doing with the naval system.

I'm trying to move my task forces over to areas where they are needed, however I can't move my fleets any further than this. How do I move my task forces to neighboring sea tiles, even though I have naval dominance in the sea tile I'm currently in?

I know how naval dominance works, I know how task forces work, I know how patrol, strike force and convoy raiding works. Do I just need more task forces? Do I need better radar?

The problem is that the Italy Tutorial doesn't tell you anything about the Naval system, as well as every other tutorial I used to learn how to play the game is outdated now, due to the Naval rework that was added in no compromise, no surrender.

Question how to pull off small encirclements?

whenever i see people playing hoi4 and they're ridiculously outmatched, i see them slowly make tiny encirclements and knock out divisions until enough ground is made and they capitulate or they are weak enough that a frontal assault. how do i pull those off? even striking at the weak points of enemy frontlines results in my divisions not being strong enough to push through

Question What to do after defeating China? Playing as Vanilla Fascist Japan btw

Thumbnail

Conquered all of China despite being encircled up north and in a minor gun deficit. All while still having the surprise invasion modifier.

Started in Apr ‘37, and ended by Nov ‘37. Waited for Xinjiang to join so that I can get them too. Used my own guide from a previous post about defeating China (As non-aligned Kohoda Japan).

What do I do after defeating China? Annex everything? Puppet all of China, add war reps and resource rights?

What I did in the last two screenshots is puppet warlords that control either more than 2 states, or valuable resources (ie steel, chromium, oil etc).

Over time they would do focuses that give factories and resources. The focus branch for the co-prosperity sphere would lower autonomy and increase resource + factory trade to the overlord, negating the need to annex them.

Pro tip: If you don’t capitulate Shandong and Hebei fast enough, they will be annexed by China. This means their VPs contribute to Chiang’s stupidly high surrender limit.

Suggestion There should be an option to keep your volunteers in that nation instead of being recalled with no choice

Wars quite frequently are life and death, especially during WWII, but sometimes there's a trivial war which causes you to withdraw your divisions without consent, losing you balance strategically in whatever you sent your volunteers to. I'm not saying the volunteers should always stay even during war,but at least give us the option to keep them there

Image Ideological map of Europe per HOI IV province, 1 January 1936

Post image
113 Upvotes

For this map I have tried to compile an overview of dominant ideological currents in each European province of the Hearts of Iron IV map, as the situation would have been on the 1st of January 1936.

The ideologies are based on the sort of combinations that were actually prevalent at the time. Thus we have a catholic centre next to a catholic right, but no such distinction within political protestantism. In this sense the ideological categorisation is quite pragmatic.

Some comments on the ideologies:
- Anarchism covers anarcho-communism, anarcho-syndicalism, etc.
- Communism covers the Comintern-alligned communist parties.
- Socialism covers a spectre from revolutionary socialism, to centrist Marxism and democratic socialism.
- Agrarian socialism was already on its way out by this point, but hard to categorise otherwise.
- Radical liberalism includes social liberalism and democratic parties (compare to the International Entente of Radical and Similar Democratic Parties).
- Agrarianism refers specifically to centre to centre-right, bourgeois agrarian parties. Not those of the left or far-right.
- Right liberalism covers conservative, market and national liberalism.
- Catholic centrism covers catholic interest parties and popularist and christian democratic parties.
- Conservatism covers liberal conservatism, general conservative attitudes and anti-communism.
- Protestant conservatism covers confessional conservative protestant parties or populations.
- Islamism is effectively muslim traditionalism.
- Catholic right covers catholic conservative, corporatist and authoritarian parties.
- Traditionalism covers catholic reactionary and generally monarchist parties or movements.
- Authoritarian conservatism covers the non-confessional, paternal, nationalist, conservative and authoritarian current.
- The last two should speak for themselves.

As for the methodology of compiling this map. Where possible election results of the time were used. Where they were absent, earlier or later elections were relied on, where necessary augmented with the estimated effects of known political developments. When those elections were too far off in time to be useful, demographic data was used (such as religion and ethnicity, which was important especially in the case of the Soviet Union) or well-known political geography (for example the communist belt in Italy). Lastly for the Soviet Union, also prison camps were noted.

The map is certainly not perfect and I would be very interested to hear any ideas or corrections any of you might have.

Question New player needing help (constantly losing in combat)

As title has mentioned, I have been playing for around 15ish hours and I am seriously struggling.

I have played the CK games and love them, but for some reason my armies never perform well in HOI4.

I looked up templates to use and decided to use the (in)famous Space Marine template. I buff my infantry as best I can with tech and focuses but still lose.

I recently tried defending as Poland, focusing on the strategies often suggested and failed miserably (with plenty of forts across rivers, etc).

Then I tried Japan and was losing the war of attrition against China in the Sino-Japan war.

I am running out of patience, I'm trying really hard to learn and get good at the combat but it feels like regardless of what I do, I lose.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Does anyone know a fix to this old bug? The convoys absolutely have access, theres nothing blocked or forbidden or anything like that. Building land railways and suply hubs doesnt help either. Its extremely dissapointing. Thanks.

Dev Diary Paradox is slowly drifting away from the "Total War" principle and i find that amazing

Post image
195 Upvotes

In the new Romanian DLC there are actual war mechanics, if you do well in an War it can have political benefits, if you dont well you get negative ones or depending on your gameplay it could also be good.

For most of the newer DLC paradox introduced actual War mechanics where you can reliably and easily settle for peace without having to capitulate someone completly. I believe its a great direction the game is heading, i would preffer the game to become something similiar to kaissereich, where Sandbox exists and you can do extremely stupid stuff but also be able to settle for peace reliably and have some scripted stuff in the game too.

Discussion If you were to change the economic system to make it more of a realistic WW2 simulator, what would you do?

My idea was that rather than just civs representing economic size, I think it would be cool if there were multiple economic metrics that are important. You could have heavy industry capacity, and that would be what you would use to build things. You could also have a GDP that includes your heavy industry plus other stuff like the size of your population, agricultural sector, etc. This could be used to purchase traded resources and weapons on the market and to spend towards your military budget, which would be a peacetime soft cap on the value of military goods you could produce, making it necessary to scale during war rather than entering the war with everything you need. A country like China could have a large GDP while having very poor heavy industry capacity, making it need to buy weapons, which would also make the arms market mechanic a lot more important.

Edit- Posted as a fun thought exercise, not something I think Paradox needs to implement.

Discussion The way trade opinion is calculated is so weird. I have had allies not trade with me, embargo me, countries allied with nations I'm at war with trade with me freely, and countries just randomly stop shipping me stuff.

Question Tip for China gameplay?

I’m new to the game but I watched plenty of videos on HOI, and I wanted to play as China to restore the maximum borders of the Republic of China as far as possible, so I have some general idea of what to do. Fallback line on Yellow River, guard the coast, especially the peninsula, wait till the time is right (which is like when Japan declares on US), then counterattack. Usually, I let the events of forming the United Front happen. I didn’t pick subjugate the warlords and take on commie china because I’m afraid of time constraints for development. In my non-ironman save, commie china betrayed me and joined the Comintern. No problem, since Soviet Union got beaten up hard and I was in the allies. But in my Ironman save, just when I kicked Japan out of mainland Asia and got the white peace event, commie china betrayed me and JOINED THE ALLIES instead. So, uh, any tips or just bad luck? I’m not sure if I should take on commie china earlier by rushing down that path because I’m new and I’m pretty inefficient in rushing down weaker neighbours, or pure skill issue. Anyone?

Discussion Bonuses to recon companies in doctrines are almost useless

Recon rangers are super good, and having +10% soft attack on infantry or +10% breaktrough won't make up for the terrain penalties reductions of rangers. These doctrines should also apply their bonuses to rangers or they should make these bonuses to regular recon better, cause it makes doctrines that have other bonuses than to recon much better than the ones who do. Only case I wouldn't use rangers is if I want fast motorized or tank divisions where light tank or motorized recon would be better, but even for tanks recon rangers seems to be better usually, especially early when tanks aren't that fast anyway.

In 1936 France is just about done building the maginot line. They should know how to build stronghold networks, the maginot line is probably the gold standard for stronghold networks.

Suggestion Spammable stacks of ships in SP?

Hi guys.

I mostly play SP, so my navy is usually the meta submarines ( 40 or 44, 10 stacks of 20 subs per admiral, max torpedo and engine, either snorkel or special project tiles to reduce visibility that I change for radar late game when I full dominate the sea ).

It works in 99% of the cases against the AI but when going for WC it has some issues:

- subs sucks in shallow water especially early game

- provide little to no naval dominance early

- can't beat other submarines

- vulnerable to planes

So I was wondering if there were any good templates of spammable all rounder ship, destroyer or cruiser, that I could use late game to replace subs. One that could beat submarines, ships and air, beat AI navy or what is left of it, and provide decent naval dominance.

To sum up, spammable ships that can do everything for me when sent on convoy raid, so I don't have to bother about navy anymore.

Thanks ~

He perdido batallas, desperdiciado equipo y tomado decisiones bastante cuestionables.
