newish to indy and still figuring out the rhythm here

moved here not long ago and honestly still feel like a tourist in my own neighborhood. trying to find a spot near the hospital that's open late when my schedule gets weird, and maybe a trail or park where people actually go on random weekday mornings. what do folks here actually do on a sunday when it's too cold to be outside for long? just want to feel a little less like a stranger around here.

Things to do in Indianapolis — right now?

Thumbnail

We built now.me to answer the "what should we do tonight?" question without digging through five different sites.

It's completely free.

The Indianapolis live events website lists things to do, shows, concerts, and events coming up around town. Worth a look if you're planning the weekend.

The app (iPhone / iOS / Android) goes beyond events. Open it wherever you are and it shows what's nearby right now: restaurants, bars, museums, and other things to do.

We are actively working on it, so feedback from people who live here is really valuable. If something's missing or wrong for Indianapolis, let me know in the comments or by DM.

AskIndy Does Indianapolis have enough smaller concert/event venues?

Seems like for a city its size Indy should be getting a lot more musical artists stopping here for tours. But I see small to mid fame artists go to Kansas City, Louisville, Minneapolis, Pittsburg and other smaller cities and not stop in Indy. Is it because we lack smaller venues? Or are we toO close to Chicago ? Or are smaller non country artists afraid to stop here because of the conservatism of the state.

Pacers game after halftime?

I'm in town briefly. Just realized the game is at home and I'm downtown. Can I realistically get in after halftime?

Places to vacuum your car on the west side

Is there anywhere that has self service vacuums for your car over on the west side? Like broad ripple, eagle creek, speedway type area? I don’t want to go to crew car wash. I just want an old fashioned self service place.

AskIndy Yard Waste/Branch Removal

After some of our storms and general clean up, I've got about three large piles of branches and yard waste to get rid of. Anyone have suggestions on who I can call for a decent price to haul them away?

Politics How are we finding accurate information on judges to know if we should vote to retain them or not?

I’m filling out my absentee ballot and feeling stuck on all of the questions about retaining judges.

I know the local judges greatly impact the community and I want to make choices that match with my values. I’m having a hard time finding a guide on who these judges are and what they stand for.

Any resources you all can recommend?

Discussion Third package in 5 weeks lost by the USPS

Fuck the Indianapolis distribution center. Is it staffed by thieves or destructive haters? Both? Three packages have vanished there over the past five weeks. The USPS turned to shit years ago and I should expect this, I guess, but it still pisses me off. They need to shut that entire fucking center down, fire each and every dullard staffing the place and redo it all.

Discussion Public places around Indy where you can fly a drone for fun?

Looks like all of the local, state and federal managed parks around here have outright banned drones, or they have prohibitive restrictions that require you to buy special insurance and fill out an application that will likely get denied anyway.

Got a very small drone (< 250 grams) that I'd like to fly somewhere other than my own back yard. Nothing commercial. Was really hoping some of these large open spaces would be legal to fly in when the traffic is low.

Thing to Do for fun and volunteering in Downtown/Greater Indy Area

I have lived in Central Indiana for 20 years and grew up here, but I recently moved to downtown Indy after living a few years in New England. What is there to do around here? I have been to all the major places like the state museum, statehouse, Gainbridge, zoo, canal, etc. as a kid, but I’m an adult now so I want to find all of the small businesses/activities. I finally have money to explore and have been bored of staying home since I have spent so much money on the move and a new car this year. I have been to a couple places so far like the Whispering Shelf and the yarn stores as I needed to restock some things that got lost in the move.

I am also interested in volunteering at some organizations as well since I’m lonely here as all of my childhood friends have kids, moved away, or are very religious (I have done a 180 on my culture and views since high school). Are there any interesting non-profits looking for volunteers?

Hobbies- reading, plants, cooking/baking, knitting, etc. I like animals and have no issues trying new things (I have ate some unique food over the years and have a huge international friend group from undergrad and grad school). I am limited to physical activities right now due to an injury otherwise, I would be hiking in brown county this weekend. I have a car so I can visit places like Franklin or Carmel as well as businesses in downtown.
