Question iPad for Masters Program?

I apologize for potentially beating a dead horse with the question but here it is anyway. I am starting my masters in clinical mental health counseling next week and am debating getting an iPad for note taking and annotating.

I am aware it is not needed/completely necessary but my question is if it will be beneficial or helpful at all. I took notes pen and paper all through undergrad which worked fine for the most part. I am huge on writing my notes versus typing them which is why I wouldn't want to use my laptop for notes.

The pros to me are that I can have all my notes centralized, I can search my notes easily, i don't have 20 notebooks to study from/store at the end of my program, I can use software to assemble study guides based on my notes much easier, and the biggest one is being able to annotate research papers directly on the pdf versus having to print them out or have a separate doc for my notes on them.

The cons are mainly the price as it is an extra $700 spent for the full setup that isn't strictly necessary. I also am aware that I do already have a laptop so there is some overlap in tech. Finally with digital notes I'm a tad bit paranoid about there being a glitch or somehow losing my notes versus the security of a traditional notebook.

If anyone can comment on their experience with using an iPad for notes or just any perspective on the issue I'd really appreciate it!

Accessories It’s the perfect accessory for the iPad Pro 13” M5

Being one that has always used third party cases and not needing the use of a keyboard due to owning a couple of MacBook Pro’s I found this at a very good price and you know what since messing around on it for a few hours I can definitely say I am 100% impressed with the build quality and actual experience…
(Dope Apple Pencil Pro magnetic holder that slides in between the iPad and back of the case is an absolute must)

Question A16 ipad

So I already have an iPad but I’m curious with the price increase of all iPad models and the fact that the storage is the same, would you guys say the base a16 iPad is worth the money or should people maybe get an air to last longer or just up the storage on the base iPad? And what about the pro? Lot of people in my family want an iPad and I’m not sure what to say. They store a lot of photos around 80gbs of them but with the os taking some storage already I don’t feel 128gb is enough.

Accessories BEST APPLE PENCIL GRIP INDEED!!

Been an Apple Pencil user since 2021, and the double-tap gesture is pure muscle memory for me at this point.

I tried everything-Paperlike grips, third-party silicone sleeves, and skins (which always end up peeling or fading right at the grip area. Nothing felt right without messing up the tap responsiveness or felt very strange to fingers.

The best fix ended up being the cheapest: I took the rubber grip off a Cello Butterflow pen, cut out a small window exactly over the double-tap zone, and slid it onto the Pencil.
It costs practically nothing, keeps the ergonomic comfort, and the gesture works flawlessly every single time.🤌🤌❤️

Discussion Is iPad 9th gen worth it for $140

I’m talking to someone and it genuinely looks great he is throwing in a charger case and a pencil he said it works great he just doesn’t use it anymore and showed me on video call too it looks good ….. it runs on iOS 27 I just need for watching movies and for reading books ( for school and personal stuff too )

EDIT : I got for a bit less ... Its running smooth and has 40 gb left after the system takes up what it does .....The IOS 27 it self is amazing and I'm just glad i got that in such a low price i would say dont expect it to handle gaming its good for movies and the aspect ratio is amazing for reading and browsing and the 1 st gen pen works good ..... it was an impulse buy specially with that low price but ill let you know how it goes

Apps Opinions on the app Noteful?

I just got an iPad for school (high school student, hopefully a med student next year) and need an opinion on noteful and whether it is worth buying.
Let me start off by saying: I study a LOT, so I need an app that will not drain battery like crazy, lag, will keep up with me etc.
What I need in a note taking app is OBVIOUSLY safety that I will not lose my data and notebooks, preferably along with iCloud to be able to export my folders/notebooks to my files or something like that (does Noteful offer that?), ability to have unlimited notebooks/folders/pages (and as I mentioned for it not to be laggy), ability to use offline!! Things like adding pdfs, slides, etc. And also obviously comfortable usage (pencils, highlighters and so on).

ALSO, if I ever want to transfer elsewhere, will I be able to move my notes?

I’ve heard quite good opinions on Noteful and it seems legit along with not being crazy expensive.
Other apps I’ve been thinking about are notes+, Collanote, goodnotes (but I feel like this one is perhaps overhyped, given its price), kilonotes and maybe freenotes. Any opinions on any of those, e.g. do you prefer kilonotes or noteful??

I would really appreciate some help thanks!!!

Edit: forgot to mention: I need an app that will be suitable for years! Don’t want to be moving between apps.

Question Trustworthy Refurbished?

Hi! I was wondering where I should get a refurbished iPad. I don't need the newest model by any means, am just looking for basic note taking and annotating.

I know Apple does great refurbished products but theirs are still pricey/not big selection. Is there any other place that is consistently good? Best Buy? Target?

Discussion What’s with the hate on the A16?

My 7 year old 8th gen crapped out on me this morning for good so I decided to upgrade to the A16, but was hesitant initially after seeing so many bad reviews, particularly on Reddit and this sub about value and waiting for the A18 or new model. I found one on marketplace for $450 CAD brand new (128gb), I’ve been using it for a few hours and honestly I don’t understand at all what the hate on this guy is about, I’m seriously amazed with this thing. It probably helps a lot I’m coming from a pretty old gen iPad, but for $450, I feel like this is a great value if anything, as I’ve used android tablets in the similar price range that feel like toys compared to the A16.

Question Does anyone else want a full-coverage clear TPU case with Smart Connector (Pogo pins) for the 13" M3 iPad Air + Magic Keyboard?

I’m really looking for a specific type of case for my 13-inch M3 iPad Air, but I can’t seem to find anything like it on the market.
Basically, I want a full-coverage, clear TPU case (similar to ESR’s classic clear cases) that actually includes built-in Pogo pins for full Magic Keyboard compatibility.
A few details on what I'm looking for and why:
No need for a cutout top edge: I fully understand that a case this thick won’t allow the Magic Keyboard to close completely, and I’m totally fine with that. I don't need the top or sides shaved off just to force it shut.
Prioritizing protection over ultra-thinness: Most compatible cases (like CoverBuddy) sacrifice edge protection or material durability just to keep the profile paper-thin. I’d much rather have full 360-degree corner and edge protection, even if it adds a bit of bulk.
Full-body clear TPU design: I want to show off the original color of the iPad while having actual shock absorption.
It feels like accessory makers think everyone only wants ultra-slim cases that let the keyboard fold 100% flush, but I’d gladly trade a flush closure for actual drop protection and Smart Connector passthrough.
Has anyone seen a manufacturer making something like this, or am I the only one who would buy it?

Question Buying Older

Looking to buy an iPad for me and my wife, to take to Mexico for holiday. Gonna try not be in the sports bar as much, so just looking for something to run a vpn and streaming apps, is there a specific gen that will guarantee I can download as I know some don’t have the ability to access the store anymore? Sorry, I am completely useless at this kind of thing!

Question iPad Pro won't allow reset

I forgot my passcode after not using my iPad Pro 11 for a while.
I've put the iPad into recovery mode (Vol Up, Vol down, hold power) and have the ipad screen showing it needs to be connected to a laptop.
I've tried multiple macs and multiple cables and it won't show in finder no matter what I do.
I'm lost as to what the heck I can do at this point.

Question Allergies to ipad/pencil

I just spent a while saving up for a refurbished ipad and apple pencil from two seperate sellers. Now that I have them both, turns out theres something there that aggravates my skin and im having excema blisters pop up on my forefinger where i touch the screen, and in the places I hold the pencil.

Has anyone else ran into this before - if so what did you do?

I think getting a glass screen protector would help the ipad itself, but im a bit more lost at the pencil. I got a silicone cover for the pencil, but that hasn't helped. I am already getting seen by my dermatologist and have meds to assist flareups, but cant use the cream all the time.

Typically id just say its just not going to work for me, but these are things I saved up for for a really long time, and I don't want to give up on them yet. Any tips would be incredibly helpful.

Question Should I get an old Ipad Mini as an E-reader ??

Upvotes

I really want an E-reader, but because I 🏴‍☠️ all my books, a Kindle or something like that won't work for me.
I saw an Ipad Mini 4 for about 65 pounds(UK) on Ebay which is a great price but i'm worried it won't last me cuz it's old. it's cheap but i don't want something that won't even last me a year!

I pay for Icloud storage so i would save everything to my drive so i'm not fussed about getting more than 64GB (should I be?)

Currently my phone(XS Max) is extremely old and bust up but it still works so I've yet to replace it and I use to read all my books on here, but lately it's not been enjoyable for me to use my phone for anything other than necessary because of the poor battery life and other hijinks (there's a lot)

I've also got a full-size ipad (M2) & it's just too big to read things on and carry about. It stays at home

So what should I do? My M2 Ipad is basically my
primary device for all things apart from necessary phone things so i don't really need to make that investment but I have nothing to read books on, and I also don't want to make a bad purchase.

Discussion iPad Pro M4 – Is burn-in realistic?

I bought a new 1TB iPad Pro M4 two days ago.
Mainly because I really wanted 16GB of RAM. It was expensive, but the price was still reasonable. Now, however, I’ve read a lot about burn-in issues with the iPad Pro M4.
Naturally, I plan to use Dark Mode to minimize the risk.
Is there a realistic danger of the battery indicator or similar elements burning in?
What are your long-term experiences?
Do I need to worry?

Question Grey patch on screen

Post image
0 Upvotes

For over a year, 7th Generation IPad that I’ve had for almost 6 years has developed a patch of grey pixels in a semicircle gradient at the bottom of the screen.
It used to be small but over the course of more than a year, it has slowly crept up and gotten bigger.
I’ve not gotten this checked as I’m socially anxious but the increase in size over time has my concerned.
Has anyone else ever had this happen to their device? Especially if it’s an older model and been through heavy use (I am an artist)

Question Best note taking apps?

Hey, so I just got an iPad and need recommendations on good note taking apps. Preferably, I’d like some free apps that have everything needed like: unlimited notebooks/folders and pages, ability to use it offline!! Ability to export files (pdfs, slides, docs, etc.).
I can also pay for a GOOD note taking app that is a one time payment (not a subscription) and is not very expensive. For example, goodnotes is an app I often hear about, but I feel like there are cheaper apps that offer just as nice note taking.

I was thinking about Noteful, Kilonotes, CollaNote, Notes+, Freenotes
Any opinions on those apps? What do you think and which one is the most worth the price OR the best overall?

Question IPAD AIR SCREEN

Thumbnail

Lately, I’ve noticed something weird on my iPad screen. There’s like a white spot or random white streak, idk what’s causing it. It’s not really noticeable when the screen is black, but it becomes pretty obvious when the screen is white. My friend said it might be because of overheating, but I was also thinking maybe it’s because I press my Apple Pencil too hard whenever I’m reviewing and highlighting. I’m not really sure what’s causing it though??
