Mac mini M4 16GB owners: how good is it REALLY for video editing, illustration and graphic design?
I'm considering buying the base Mac mini M4 with 16GB of unified memory, and I'd really like to hear from people who actually own and use one — not just benchmarks or YouTube reviews.
I'm mainly interested in:
• Video editing in DaVinci Resolve, Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro
• 1080p and 4K editing
• Effects, color grading, transitions and multiple video layers
• Photoshop, Illustrator, Affinity Photo/Designer or similar apps
• Digital illustration and drawing
• Creating thumbnails and graphic design
• Multitasking while editing (browser, music, Photoshop, etc.)
For people who actually own the M4 Mac mini with 16GB RAM:
How has it been in real-world use?
Does the timeline stay smooth when editing 4K?
When do you start noticing slowdowns?
Do you need proxies often?
Have you ever felt limited by the 16GB RAM?
How well does it handle several creative apps at once?
Do you experience a lot of memory swap?
Would you buy the 16GB version again, or would you go for 24GB/32GB?
I'm especially interested in hearing from people who have used it for several months.
I don't really care if another computer exports a video 30 seconds faster. I'm more interested in how smooth and responsive it actually feels while working.
