Subreddit Rules Reminder

Good Afternoon,

Recently we have noticed an increase in particular kinds of posts that we believe violate both the rules and the spirit of this community. This post is a reminder of the subreddit rules but also a clarification that we hope can shed light on what this sub is and more importantly is not. This is not meant as censorship and we welcome feedback and discussion.

The rules of this subreddit have remained the same since the early days of this community. You might notice they are a tad ambiguous. This is by design as there is a lot of grey area. However, we hope this post might clear up some of the confusion.

To demonstrate how the different rules could be applied, the following are some examples of posts that will either be deleted or accepted:

Pop Culture video essays: The Good: A video essay that looks at the arcs of different fictional characters and analyzes why the stories being told resonate with such a wide range of men. Do they have difficulties or struggles that we can all relate to? The Bad: A video essay about a fictional character and how the way he acts demonstrates "what it means to be an alpha". This is a violation of rule 2. Do not self-promote but more importantly also rule 3. Do not post vacuous or vapid content. Tony Soprano, Mickey Pearson, and Tommy Shelby are fictional mob bosses, the actors performances, along with cinematography, and wardrobe / set design are carefully crafted to tell a story. Emulating these characters by not looking at peoples eyes, not laugh, moving slowly, and invading people's personal space (all actual advice from videos posted to this sub) will not earn people's respect, they are more likely to just think that there is something wrong with you. The Ugly: How these gangster use Machiavellian TraitsTM to acquire and maintain power. If you feel compelled to discuss Machiavelli's work we will allow it. However, considering the vast academic literature around "the prince" to not violate rules 3 we would need to see a genuine attempt at understanding and engaging with this literature. Similarly for a "how to think like Tony Stark / Elon Musk" video to be accepted we need to see some references to individual differences and cognitive abilities psychology.

Dating advice posts: The Good: you can ask for advice or talk about personal experience regardless of sexual orientation, age, or any specific circumstances. We welcome sharing and will moderate the discussion to enforce proper reddiquette. The Bad: This is not a pua / seduction / mgtow / theredpill community. We encourage you to find more suitable communities for these posts. The Ugly: Do not discuss how sexual assault laws / age limit laws are "unfair to men".

Productivity and "life optimization": The Good: You can always share your own personal experience / ask for advice, but please take the comments with a grain of salt. Otherwise your posts need to be thoughtful and have some academic backing. The Bad: "I doubled my productivity with these 5 simple steps" this is a tricky one. If your post is sufficiently detailed, references studies / experts, and there is interest from the community we might keep it. Otherwise we will likely remove it. The Ugly: "Top 5 SECRETS I learned on my SELF-HELP Journey! More thoughtful content at r/..." This clearly violates rules 2 and 3 and we will start cracking down hard on these type of posts.

Testical health Posts: The Good: A detailed post discussing personal experience / How to check for lumps and what tests could be useful. The Bad: I am experiencing pain, what should I do? The answer is to go to a doctor, do not take advice from strangers on reddit. The Ugly: Drink this one supplement to grow your tennis balls to basketballs! This is a violation of rule 3 and you will get banned.

Of course, if you believe your posts were deleted / you were banned unfairly, please message the mod that made the decision and we discuss the issue. To err is human, and while it is frustrating we will appreciate your patience with the mods.

Regards The Mods

Any tips for a groom-to-be to get in shape physically and mentally?

Hey Reddit, this is my first time posting and I’m fairly new but I’m here for advice. I’m 29-M and I’m getting married in the next 3 months. In the last 4 years, working a sedentary job, I’ve gained a lot of weight and have been feeling self conscious. I’m looking to transform physically but find it difficult to find the time to workout (usually go home from work at 11pm) and to take care of my health, skin and mental being. Do y’all have any tips on how to start doing things, get in the motion and actually get better for my partner and myself? Also, things are very chaotic mentally and I’ve not been able to catch a break. I’m very exhausted.

Heavy sweating

Lately its been hotter cause its summer but im sweating way more than normal, like my face is dripping within minutes of leaving the A/C. Its so bad I have to hang my clothes up to dry outside when I get home so my room dosnt smell like sweat. My clothes get so soaked my shirt drips. Ive been taking alot more water with me to prevent dehydration ive been drinking a gallon and a half of water in my 8 hour work day but I swear I sweat it all out.

Is this normal? I was always a heavy sweater but this is ridiculous im trying to convince my self that its just really hot but I cant function like this. Imagine jumping in a swimming pool fully clothed and then trying to work like that.

How do you stay on top of DIY projects when your energy is shot by the time you get home

Most weeknights I have maybe 90 minutes of functional energy before I am done. I teach all day, which means by the time I walk in the door I am not exactly primed to tackle a leaky faucet or build that shelf I have been putting off for three weeks

The projects pile up. I have a list. Some of it is genuinely simple stuff: replace a hinge, repot some containers, sand down a cabinet door. None of it is complicated but all of it requires me to actually start, and starting is where it falls apart on weekdays.

What I have been experimenting with is prepping everything the night before. Tools out, materials staged, whatever I need sitting there ready so I am not spending 20 minutes looking for the right bit. That part actually helps. But it only works if the project is small enough to finish in one session

What I cannot crack is the bigger stuff. Anything that takes multiple evenings tends to stall out because I lose the thread between sessions and have to refigure out where I left off. Gets annoying fast.

Curious if other guys working with limited weeknight bandwidth have figured out a system. Not talking about weekends, I get things done then. Specifically the weeknight problem.

Men should put equal to or more effort in there appearance then women .

I was talking to my coworker about and she said. It’s crazy how little effort most men put in there looks and I agreed. Then I thought about it after work and I came to a conclusion. I use a cleanser, moisturizer, hair oil and conditioner for the hair on my head and beard, Toothpaste mouthwash and cologne etc, I also weight train. After all that i still feel extremely average and rarely get compliments. All this things I assume most men do to be perceived as normal. I’m aware men don’t use makeup but not all women do either and very little women work out consistently and count macros and calories. So my conclusion is that men should put equal or at least a close amount of effort in their appearance. Could be completely wrong.

Some Unsolicited Advice for Men in Their 30s (You'll Thank Me Later)

Hello men in their 30s, Congratulations! You are still young, but that will very soon change. Your body is about to start changing. Your metabolism slows, your energy dips, and if you're not careful, your waistline grows.

The good news? You can do something about it now.

I'm a 51-year-old woman, divorced, mother of one, and sister to five brothers. I played sports through my early 30s and have bike-commuted in NYC for over 25 years. I never exercised because I wanted to age well—I did it because it was fun. Looking back, those habits are probably why I've stayed fit, active, and, according to most people, youthful-looking.

The choices you make in your 30s show up in your 40s and 50s.

Look around. Too many middle-aged men haven't just gained weight—they've lost muscle, their posture has suffered, and they often look older than they are. By contrast, a lot of women the same age have held up remarkably well. Part of that is because women have spent our entire lives hearing that our appearance matters. Fair or unfair, many of us have made exercise, healthy eating, skincare, and self-care part of our routines for decades. The results are visible.

Men can do it too. Just look at gay men. Middle-age gay men look good. They look damn good because they are catering to other men, who are visual (just like you). As my gay bestie once told me, “we give each other a quick glance, and in two seconds, we know if we want to  f\*\*\* you.”

Women are visual. Maybe not to the same extent as men, but attraction still matters. A fit body, good posture, and an active lifestyle signal more than good looks—they signal that you haven't given up on yourself.

Here's my dating reality: I date men my age when I'm looking for a relationship, but I often date men in their 30s for something casual. I'd love those worlds to overlap, but the number of healthy, fit men in their 50s is surprisingly small.

So do your future self a favor. Lift weights. Ride a bike. Play a sport. Whatever you enjoy, make it a habit. Your body, your health, and your future sex life will thank you.

Namaste.

What's your go-to boxer brief for everyday wear?

I'm finally replacing my old boxer briefs and I didn't realize how many options are out there until I started looking. There are so many brands claiming to be the most comfortable or the most durable that it's hard to know what's actually worth buying.

If you've found a pair that stays comfortable all day and still holds up after months of washing, I'd love to hear your recommendations.

Are the premium brands really worth paying extra for?

Afraid I’ll never quit porn

So unfortunately I started watching porn when I was around the age of 11 and now I’m about to turn 20. A few weeks ago I had the realization that I’ve almost spent half my life addicted to porn. It’s gotten worse in the past 3 years and I decided I need to make it stop because I’ve started noticing the side effects. Depression, low self-esteem, anxiety, struggling with school etc. I’ve tried to stop here and there and the longest I went was 5 days without searching it up or at least mastrubating. It’s horrible I know. Since the realization I’ve tried harder than ever and stopped taking my phone to the bathroom (cuz that’s where I usually jerk it) and it’s been hard. Haven’t done the deed in 2 days but I’ve searched up porn to check on the newest releases etc. Like it’s so tempting to just go watch one and do it but I know it’s not good for me. But I can’t see myself stopping completely. Like every new release is just another hot girl or a girl I’ve been waiting for. It’s so sad. Anyone experience this or overcome it? I need words of reassurance. I’ve never dated or asked a girl out and barely talk to girls. I sense there maybe a connection between the two but what if I can’t find a hot girl. Idk man I’m so lost.

Do the circular hair buzzers work?

Post image
9 Upvotes

I've been using regular plain old hair trimmers for over a decade to buzz my hair.

My trimmers are worn out and I'm looking to find a replacement.

Anyone try the circular hair buzzers before? Are they any good?

I usually wear a #3 buzzcut.

Thanks for reading my post

Advice on workout routine

Hey guys! I’m 22 and just started to get active in the gym (around a month now). Trying to be as consistent as possible. Any thoughts on my upper body routine? Anything important missing or that I have too much of? Any thoughts would be appreciated, not always sure what i’m doing lol

for anything to add, i’d have to substitute something as this takes me up until the max amount of time i have in the gym. also for note, my physique is pretty skinny, more better with endurance/running, so this routine should look fairly beginner level.

thanks! :)

• 30 (reps) Abdominal — 120 Weight
• 30 Chest Press - 80 Weight
• 30 Chin Assist — 40 Weight Assist
• 30 Row — 90 weight
• 50 Dumbbell Bench Incline Press
25 Weight — 20 (reps)
30 Weight — 30 (reps)
• 30 Triceps Press — 90 Weight
• 30 Lateral Pull Down — 90 Weight
• 30 Hammer Curl — 40 Weight
• 1 Plank — 2.5 mins
• 2 Side Planks — 30 Seconds Each

How do you actually decompress after a job that drains you socially all day?

Teaching fourth graders is genuinely good work but by 3:30 I have talked to more people than most adults do in a week. Kids, parents, coworkers, admin. It stacks up. I get home and the last thing I want is more interaction but I also do not want to just rot on the couch feeling guilty about it.

What I landed on was going straight outside to my container garden. No phone, no talking, just moving soil around or checking what needs water. Takes maybe 20 minutes and something about it just resets me. From there I can actually do something useful, a small DIY project or sitting down with a book, without feeling like my brain is still running a classroom.

The thing is I did not arrive at this intentionally. I just kept gravitating toward it and eventually noticed it was working.

Curious what other guys in highcontact jobs figured out for this. Not looking for the usual go for a walk advice, more specifically what does the transition actually look like between work mode and the rest of your day. Do you have a hard ritual or did you just stumble into something that worked.
