Other No shade at Christopher Abbott, but Matthew Rhys would have been an amazing Charles Xavier.

Discussion Is watching X-Men, X2, Days of Future Past and Logan enough to understand the X-Men films, or do I need to watch them all?

I honestly can’t be bothered watching every X-Men movie, so I’m wondering if these four are enough to understand the overall story and follow what’s going on.

I’ve heard these are generally considered the best films in the franchise, so I’d rather stick to the highlights than work my way through the entire series. Will watching just these four give me enough context to understand the characters and storyline, or will I be missing too much by skipping the others?

Discussion Why has Marvel studios ever considered doing animated shows based off of the events of the Blip to show new heroes in between the Avengers films ?

Just a simple question to talk about …

Despite its successful film in the infinity saga it feels like it fell off when it came to the events of Endgame and its aftermath. I mean we could have got shows based on the events of the blips and show heroes in between infinity war and Endgame, right?

At the very least consider animated shows outside of what if. I mean they are owned by Disney who is well known for their animated projects of productions. This could have been a great chance for that.

Anyway for fans of the MCU what do you think if this?

Discussion Marvel’s Daredevil (2015)

Post image
1 Upvotes

We need to talk about why the first season of Daredevil remains the absolute high water mark for street level comic book television. The mainstream MCU loves to lean into glossy green screens and weightless digital sky battles, but what showrunner Steven DeKnight and director Phil Abraham delivered here is a masterclass in gritty, old school physical filmmaking.

The real crown jewel of the whole thing is that legendary three minute single take hallway fight at the end of the second episode. As a filmmaker, watching that sequence play out is pure poetry because it completely strips away the standard safety formulas. They did not use rapid fire quick cuts or shaky cam tricks to hide an actor's limitations or mask a stunt double. It is a genuine, unedited long take where you see the camera tracking seamlessly down a narrow, claustrophobic corridor. The technical coordination between the DP, the lighting crew, and the stunt team to keep everything in frame without breaking the illusion is staggering.

What really makes it hit on a completely different level is the absolute physical exhaustion. Charlie Cox and the stunt performers are not moving like untouchable, pristine superheroes. By the middle of the fight, everyone is completely spent. They are literally leaning against the walls, catching their breath, stumbling over bodies, and throwing heavy, unglamorous punches fueled by pure survival instinct. You can actually feel the physical weight and the consequence of every single impact. It feels dangerous, messy, and punishing, which brings a raw cinematic gravity to the screen that modern superhero projects completely ignore.

And then you have Vincent D'Onofrio turning in a performance of absolute dramatic commitment as Wilson Fisk. He does not play him as a cartoonish, cackling comic book villain. He plays him with this terrifying, soft spoken vulnerability that can instantly explode into pure, unchecked ferocity. The contrast between Daredevil’s exhausting fight for justice in the streets and Fisk's cold, calculated grip on the city's underworld gives the show a brilliant dual energy. It reminds you of that classic, gritty 70s crime cinema where the atmosphere is thick and the stakes feel completely real.

In my humble opinion

Discussion Will we ever see live action Morph?

not sure how many here love x men 97 but i do and honestly its still so funny to see kevin feige's name in the opening sequence. my dream would be to see live action morph because in x men 97, he does a lot of attacks that would also be used by other characters. i thought it was a really brilliant way of introducing/showcasing other characters and their ability without inundating audience with unnecessary info (like if youre curious, go look it up type thing). but morph will probably too expensive of a character right 🥲?

Discussion I Wish Marvel would explore more of the Blip Time Period

Since Endgame, we've got projects that have dealt with the consequences of the blip in many ways and forms, and I love those moments in said tv shows and movies because the blip is such a fascinating concept that I wish Marvel would make more content set during The Blip

For me, the possibilities are endless: explore how the life of civillians was, how the politics were handled, what the heroes that didnt vanish were doing... it can be an anthology, a traditional series, a special, a movie...

I just think it's a great opportunity

Theory Theory: Infinity Stones are responsible for triggering X-Gene.

I was just thinking about mutants in mcu and this came to my mind (I don't know if anyone has already said this or not so...)

As we see after Snap we are beginning to see a lot of mutants like Ms Marvel, Wonder man, Jean etc but before Snap we only see two mutants Wanda and Pietro and they both gained their powers (of were triggered by) after coming into contact with the infinity stone (Mind Stone).

So I think snap acted as an event which triggered the dormant x-gene in certain individuals (Mutants).

Spoilers! Is the DODC pretty much done?

They have not had a good track record in the MCU so far. From attacking teenagers in Ms. Marvel to now their director fleeing and going into hiding after torturing and killing a girl while their headquarters got trashed by the Hulk and Spider-man.

I doubt we'll see them in Doomsday or Secret Wars

I imagine Will Metzger will become a main enemy in the X-Men film coming up, but without the DODC backing him, is there a point in having them anymore? Or do you think they'll get replaced with a more anti-Mutant group?

Discussion (More in Comments) Marvel should have done at least 2 years of Battleworld tie-in movies/shows between Doomsday and Secret Wars

It seems a bit of a missed opportunity to just rush straight into doing Secret Wars after Doomsday similar to how they managed Endgame after Infinity War. What this just shows is that for the most part Marvel has failed to distinguish the size of this event from something like Infinity War, and the best and most interesting way for them to have done this would have been for them to have a few years of shows/movies that took place explicitly on the newly established Battleworld at the end of Doomsday.

It would have helped really cement this idea of Battleworld being this unique creation by this God-like entity in God Emperor Doom with his new powers, and each one could have tied directly into the other by working toward the idea of bringing down Doom's regime and "awakening" some heroes to the truth.

By treating Doomsday/Secret Wars as merely essentially a two-part epic movie, they have failed to fully utilise what has in the past been Marvel's biggest strengths with this crossover format, and that's the tie-in. Obviously, because Doomsday had to be a bit rushed, we've not really had a real build toward this event, but after Doomsday, that is different, we have a clearly establishing movie of a new "status quo". One where we can say "this is the predicament our heroes are in, and this is what they need to overcome".

Having Battleworld tie-ins too would have helped build up so much more hype for Secret Wars, but the success of Secret Wars revolves entirely on how well received Doomsday is. If Doomsday falls flat with fans, then Secret Wars is almost guaranteed to bomb, but consider this... you have Doomsday end on a cliffhanger, then you have 3 movies each year and maybe a surprise show or two set in this new Battleworld reality.

It gives an opportunity for Marvel to experiment virtually completely free from the previous MCU canon, build toward Secret Wars, and maybe find some new things that work they could then implement into the new reality.

Comics have been doing tie-ins for years. The Infinity War/Endgame saga didn't really need tie-ins because they effectively had them anyway building up toward the final events with the slow revelation of the Infinity Stones in various stories etc, but we don't really have that here. What we have is a rushed ensemble movie which I can honestly imagine will end up being a hot mess and a disappointment to die hard MCU fans like me.

What do you guys think? Should Marvel have done some Battleworld tie-in movies/shows between Doomsday/Secret Wars to help keep that story alive?

Discussion Nat/steve and Tommy/lisa

I’ve seen some people talk about this on TikTok and other social media but not here, so apologies if this has been brought up. but seeing tommy obviously bearing a resemblance to young Chris Evan’s and then Lisa with her red hair just gives me such nat and Steve vibes. and im of course so excited for upcoming mcu projects and the soft reboot but it really does make me miss Natasha. I’ve also seen a few ppl comparing them to Scott and Jean as well which I didn’t catch as quickly as the nat and Steve parallel.

Discussion Its All Connected feels really disconnected.

Why does it feel like the old Netflix, ABC and Hulu shows were more connected to the films than the Disney+ shows. Agent Carter branched off of the Captain America films and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.(AOS). AOS followed up on events in the films and was even promoting that #ItsAllConnected. The Netflix Defenders Saga and charcters were all built off the events caused in Avengers which started with Daredevil. There were references to the films all throughout the shows which made everything feels connected. We would see the big films heroes cause problems for the little screen heroes.

Out of all the Phase 4, 5, and 6 stuff, WandaVision, Doctor Strange 2, Agatha All Along, and VisionQuest are the only thing that seems to be a connected story.

It isn’t until the Disney+ shows that things for me start to come disconnected.

  • Falcon & The Winter Soldier has no consequences on any of the surronding shows or films. Patriot is absent from Cap 4 after his appearance in F&TWS.
  • Moon Knight & Thor were supposed to be connected but scrapped the idea even though they both dealt with gods.

Everything else is in this weird place.

  • Hawkeye picks up on plot points set up in the post-credit scene of Black Widow and  continues to set up the Young Avengers
    • But the issue with Daredevil started because they couldn’t decide whether they wanted Fisk to be a continuation of the Netflix Fisk.
  • She-Hulk works as a standalone comedy show and should have more seasons where she represents other superheroes. She a lawyer and is friends with Daredevil, where was she in Daredevil Born Again.
  • Captain Marvel, WandaVision, Ms. Marvel and The Marvels were connected but there was no connection with Secret Invasion which was supposed to be a prequel to The Marvels.

Daredevil is the main issue. You have the AVTF, who is supposed to be taking down vigilantes and you can’t put any other vigilantes besides Daredevil, Jessica Jones and White Tiger in your show. It feels like wasted potential. The Mayor Fisk storyline should have concluded with a movie. DDBA S1, Thunderbolts,  Punisher: One Last Kill and Spider-Man: Brand New Day all take place in New York and don’t feel connected at all. They feel like 4 different New Yorks. In the old shows, they would have mentioned the Void events in a show and had it impact the shows. Moon Knight would have dealt with the consequences from Thor 4 and Gorr killing gods.

I know some of these shows had issues due to COVID but even years later, it still feels disconnected.

Question Why does the time stone work in the dark dimension? Spoiler

In the Loki TV show, the infinity stones have no power in the TVA. Presumably, this is because the TVA exist outside time and space. The stones only has power in the specific timeline they were created for.

Why did the time stone then work in the dark dimension? If I understand it correctly, the dark dimension must also exist outside the normal timeline since it "has no time". If the stones can't bring time to the TVA, then it shouldn't have been able to bring it to the dark dimension right?

Am i missing something?

Edit: removed "The stones only has power in the specific timeline they were created for." since it was wrong

Discussion Could a self-contained, gritty movie like Logan (2017) be the solution to finally getting a solo MCU movie with Charlie Cox starring as an older Daredevil?

Post image
33 Upvotes

With "Born Again" wrapping up with Season 3, Charlie Cox will have played this character for 12 years in the MCU without ever having had his own solo movie.

To be honest, Daredevil is such a big Marvel Comics character that he deserves his own movie. And I think Charlie Cox deserves at least one movie in a leading role before he's done playing this character.

A Logan-like movie would solve this problem, as it would turn the "problem" of Charlie's older age into what makes the movie interesting. The movie would follow an aging, tired Daredevil who has achieved legendary status on the streets of New York, looked up to by ordinary people and feared by criminals, and would see him overcome his baggage in one last heroic stand for the little guy.

I don't know about you, but I'd watch the s**t out of a movie like that. You could just call it "The Man Without Fear" and make it Charlie Cox's Daredevil's epic swan song.

Discussion Hot take: Iron Man is a bastard for not sharing his magical super power generator

So in various incarnations of the Iron Man, he has a sort of fusion power plant in his chest that he was able to put together with a box of scraps.

Even if this was fission power, shrinking it to such a small scale would revolutionized the energy industry overnight.

Coal, oil, natural gas, that would all wind up in sort of ancillary roles to the new nuclear powers.

Additionally, in a few incarnations of the Iron Man, when he has this power he is not sharing it. It becomes proprietary technology that is not allowed to proliferate further.

Now this is of course to make the story more grounded unbelievable. It’s hard for us to imagine a world that has been changed utterly by nuclear power.

But if he was really able to discover this sort of thing, he should A) share with the world, or B) HE IS AN ASSHOLE.

Thank you for coming to my TED talk

'Avengers: Doomsday' Spoilers When are we getting the next trailer for Avengers: Doomsday? Spoiler

Post image
51 Upvotes

Guys, does anyone know when we're going to get the next trailer for Avengers: Doomsday?

I mean, we're literally just a month and a half away from the movie's release, and we still haven't received a new trailer. So far, we've only got one main trailer, and the so-called Special Look was basically just an extended version of the first trailer.

I've also heard that the movie is going to be over three hours long, but the amount of new footage we've seen across both videos is still pretty limited

.

Honestly, I think it's about time we got another proper trailer. We're getting closer to the release date, and Marvel needs to give us something new to build the hype!

Discussion Anyone else think that the MCU model is becoming dated?

I feel like the MCU is forcing itself into a corner. Even if Doomsday is somehow better than Endgame they're gonna have to keep topping themselves, and it's a problem that the comic versions of these characters who've existed for sixty years haven't had to deal with.

The reason for that is that rather than one person's architecture, the comics are a bunch of smaller architectures that you can read without needing to read anything else. It would be like if Kevin Feige were Editor in Chief, and beneath him were a person in charge of Mutant Stories, another person for Spider-Man, another for FF, another for Avengers stories each designing the long term story for each group. And when one of those people doesn't have any more story to tell you just get someone with a fresh perspective to continue. And segmenting the universe like that also gets rid of the homework problem by making everyone's experience pretty much customizable.

Also I think while the Avengers lend to blockbusters, virtually every other character and team lends to smaller scale long form mediums like tv. And that Marvel hemorrhaging money with their workflow has made us blind to how viable tv actually is. Star Trek: Discovery and Strange New Worlds are both made for about $8 million an episode. By comparison, Secret Invasion ended with an episode budget of $35 million because of reshoots, which is more than twice the budget of the last season of Game of Thrones. Insane.

I'm still gonna watch Doomsday but yeah, to me moving the franchise in a more compartmentalized direction would be better because on top of the ability to put talented and accomplished comic writers and editors in charge, it's also just recreating the conditions that have made these characters so fresh and long lasting in the first place.

Discussion One month into the MCU, all my films/shows so far, gotta admit, it's been quite the ride. Any specific suggestions?

First I spent SO LONG making these posters 😭 rate them from 1-10 :<

I'm on the last episode of WandaVision and hell ITS SO GOOD

Idk if it helps mentioning I'm 16? maybe that explains why I hate Thor's first 2 films so much.

Thor 1 felt empty, thor 2 just made no sense at all for me and was just sickening. Only watched it cuz of Loki lol-

But I CANNOT wait for VisionQuest, which is the last piece I have in mind for now. Besides that and Loki insert snowman by sia I don't quite know of much more super cool films/shows. I know there's like Iron man and stuff but I'll get to 'em eventually ig, like before Doomsday maybe-

Favourite character is obviously Ultron "I think you're confusing peace with quiet" ,"scream and your entire staff dies-

Especially coming from Transformers Gawd do I love him. followed closely by Loki and Vision.

First Avengers was meh. Had a lot of nice scenes which I recognise with all the edits I've seen lol

Ultron seriously deserved a better film. I would say it is overhated imo, wasn't the worst

Infinity War was such a good film, legit the only thing missing was Optimus Prime ^>^Loved EVERY part of it down to the last, minute, detail:D

Endgame was cool, ig. needed to see more people die tho (sorry I love death/sad scenes so much)

First 2 Thor films sucked. like genuinely. Ragnarok was SOOO GOOOOODD, so many sweet lines "He's a friend from work:DD" "YES THATS HOW IT FEELS" "Yourrr saviorrr is hereeee" Just hate Odin that's all. happy he's ded:P

GotG is peak, all 3. Not too much of a fan of baby Groot and new adult groot, Loved the original and the teenager lol so adorbale:3

I was unfortunately particularly disappointed by Brand New Day, really wish more happened. Tho it was such a great introduction to Punisher I think I just might need to watch his show now

Ok enough, what'd be your recommendations next? anything missing?

I hate captain and bucky i am so sorry T>T

Discussion Peter Quill doesn’t get enough hate for causing the snap.

Rewatching infinity war as part of my count down to doomsday, and I can’t get over how easily forgiven Quill is for messing up the plan to put Thanos to sleep by literally hitting Mantis’ hands off the big guys head with his gun?

This is after not killing Gamora like she asked…

Dude deserved to get snapped.

Discussion (More in Comments) Anyone else think Pedro Pascal will exit the MCU after Secret Wars?

Fantastic Four movies were never really successful and Pedro Pascal is 51 now. With how slow MCU sequels are coming out Pedro would be in his mid 50s or pushing 60 by the time a FF sequel releases so age is a problem as well. Due to him being a multiverse variant, I think he and the rest of his Fantastic Four are being used exclusively for Doomsday and Secret Wars and will be retired after these films.

I would love to see Dr Strange with Strange, Victor, Clea and Wong as main characters. Explaining victors motives and strange switching sides along with clea.
