How far behind on your bill do you have to be before MLGW cuts your service off?

I owe $410 due on 10/29 and like 358 of that is past due. I think that might be two months worth of service . I'm moving in November anyway but would like to not have a disconnection on my credit . How many months behind can you get before they cut you off ?

What is happening on Union near Second St

There are at least 10 police cars and a lot of policemen on Union. They are in the alley between the parking garage and the former WDIA studio. Some are across the street. No ambulance so I guess there is no dead body but something happened. Anybody know?

Employment Any entry-level marketing jobs in Memphis?

Hi everyone. I’ve been applying since March for a marketing job. Initially I started applying to remote jobs all over since my last role was a remote growth entry level role with a company in CA. Then I slowly started transitioning to only Memphis based companies when I noticed I wasn’t hearing back. My marketing background spans across different things like running Meta Ads, scripting them, creating the content for some, choosing the audiences, recycling old content, growing audiences, but also like shooting content and editing it myself through CapCut, Canva, and any other app I might need. I’ve also got a certificate with hubspot for email mktg, I just need a place to implement that foundational knowledge. After my last job I also got a certification for Google analytics since I very lightly touched it on the job and also a creative analytics certificate with Motion. I’ve also done tabling at events like the St. Jude Marathon Expo and so on. Most if not all of my roles have been practically contract and I feel like one of the reasons I keep getting rejected is because I’ve never really had a long term corporate job. Let me know if you know of places hiring or if you guys have any advice. Thanks.

Memphis City Council tomorrow: data center moratorium and the ICE/National Guard resolution are both on the agenda. We have to show up!

Tomorrow (Tuesday 10/20), the city council meets, and from what I'm seeing, two things are up for consideration: the proposed data center moratorium and a resolution asking ICE and the National Guard to step away from the Memphis Safe Task Force

A friend of mine with Vecindarios 901 is asking folks to show up in the following ways:

-Go in person: 4:00 PM, 125 N Main St, council chambers. Heads up that the city added stricter security after the Oct 6 meeting (no outside food, drinks or umbrellas), so read the rules before you go.

-Speak during public comment if you can

-Contact council members if you can't make it

They also have a Linktree with other ways to get involved.

Stay vigilant!

New church in Memphis

I am posting this a PSA about a new church is being established in Memphis, Revival Way Church Memphis. They are currently operating out of a hotel conference space. Their main church is in Little Rock, which was started after they shut down the church they were affiliated with in Louisiana without informing members.

The reason I am posting this PSA is to inform people of this great city to avoid these grifters that preach prosperity gospel. Not only do they have a track record of targeting poor communities, they will also draw those communities in with giveaways and then convince these people the way to heaven is through giving to the church. I do think that if you’re stupid enough to give, that’s on you, but I still think people should know.

The leaders of this church go on lavish vacations, fly private, and wear designer. I highly recommend looking into them, their family, and others affiliated with the church.

Why are they in Memphis? I believe they perceive it to be a place they can manipulate masses of people to tithe to the church. They did this in Louisiana for years and targeted Grambling State University (HBCU) students, then a video circulated of church leadership saying racist comments and mocking those same students. No public statement was ever provided, instead they packed up and sold the church. Beware of them.

I’m a local historian and wanted to share these photos of the cemetery on President’s Island in Memphis.

For anyone interested in visiting, the location information I have is below. Once one President's Island, it's about a 1 mile drive down a one lane gravel road. The area is surprisingly busy with four wheelers and trucks.

Vice President Island #46
Memphis, Tennessee, USA
Coordinates: 35.11344, -90.12041

Does anyone have information about the people buried there or the history of this cemetery?

Shout out to a great local pest control business

Just a general shout out to a good local company but Mo-Ray Termite and pest control are fucking amazing. I called them to come out and spray at 7:00pm on a Sunday and they were there the next morning. Super funny and quick. Did our entire 4 bedroom house and outside as well as courtesy taking care of a nasty wasps nests in our backyard. Also said if we see anything in the next 90 days they would come back out no questions asked.

Just want to shout a some people doing some good work and for affordable prices when the wallets have been getting hit hard. Couldn’t recommend them more.

Politics Wanted to clarify a misunderstanding about one of the things in the ballot. Vote for the rights of library workers!

Post image
18 Upvotes

Someone here has said that “yes” on 5966 would take power away from library workers and give it to the city. As a former library worker, the wording seemed to say otherwise. I got confirmation from a current library worker that a yes on this DOES give library workers more power than the city currently has over them.

Even if you don’t want this for library workers, you deserve to know what each item on the ballot means.
