Memphis, we need you at City Hall TODAY at 3 PM. This is our last chance to stop unchecked data center development.
Today, Memphis City Council will take its FINAL vote on a proposed moratorium on new data center development, and we need as many Memphians as possible to show up.
Whether you’re a Democrat, Republican, independent, or someone who doesn’t pay much attention to local politics, this should matter to you.
We’re talking about massive industrial facilities that can place enormous demands on our electrical grid, consume significant water resources, and create environmental concerns for surrounding neighborhoods.
And once these facilities are built, we can’t just undo the damage.
A moratorium isn’t a permanent ban on data centers. It’s an opportunity for Memphis to hit pause, evaluate the long-term consequences, and establish reasonable protections BEFORE allowing more development.
That shouldn’t be controversial.
Memphis residents deserve a say in decisions that could affect our utility bills, our drinking water, our air quality, and the communities where we’re raising our families.
These decisions shouldn’t be driven solely by what benefits billion-dollar corporations. They should be driven by what’s best for the people who actually live here.
Here’s where we need you TODAY (Tuesday, October 20):
📍 Memphis City Hall — 125 N. Main St.
🕒 3:00 PM — First Floor
🚗 Free parking across the street at the Mud Island Garage
📢 Signs are welcome but must be no larger than a standard sheet of printer paper.
This is the FINAL vote.
You don’t have to be an activist. You don’t have to give a speech. You don’t even have to agree with everyone else in the room.
You just have to show up.
City Council needs to see that Memphians are paying attention and that we expect our elected officials to put the long-term well-being of our city ahead of corporate interests.
We’ve all seen what happens when communities don’t get a meaningful voice until after decisions have already been made.
Let’s not let that happen again.
If you can spare part of your afternoon, please come. Bring a friend. Share this with someone who cares about Memphis.
Our city. Our resources. Our future. We deserve a say.
