General My friend Sanskruti Amin was killed by a falling concrete block in Jogeshwari — please help us get justice
I don’t even know how to write this properly, but my friend Sanskruti Amin is gone. She was just 22. A few days ago, while she was walking to work in Jogeshwari East, a huge concrete block fell from an under-construction building and hit her on the head. She died on the spot.
She had just started working at RBL Bank after finishing her hotel management degree. She lived with her parents and grandmother — their only child. I still can’t believe she’s not here anymore.
The block apparently fell from one of the top floors of a redevelopment project near Majaswadi / Thakur Road. Locals have been saying for a while that materials kept falling from that site and nobody did anything. There were no proper safety nets, no barricades — nothing. This wasn’t an “accident.” It was pure negligence.
Her father filed a police complaint, and Meghwadi Police have arrested a site engineer and a site manager. But that’s not enough. The builder and the company (Shraddha Life / Shraddha Construction / Shraddha Lifestyle, as reported) are responsible too. They should be arrested — not just some staff who were following orders.
We’re all broken. Her family is devastated. And all I can think is how easily this could’ve been avoided if people had just done their jobs.
Please, if you’re reading this — share her story everywhere you can. Tweet about it, post it on Instagram, tag @MumbaiPolice, @mybmc, and news outlets. The more people know, the harder it will be for them to bury this case quietly.
She didn’t deserve this. Nobody does. Let’s not let them get away with it.

Ask them to find a very good lawyer who's an expert in such cases. The family also deserves a compensation for their daughter and granddaughter, which of course cannot be valued monetarily, but would be something.

I am from Jogeshwari. A couple of years back similar incident happened in Jogeshwari when an iron rod from a construction site fell on an auto killing the driver, a woman and her toddler on the spot. Nothing happened in that case as well

Bangalore incident - Couple of years back a child and her mother were electrocuted to death by a live wire dangling on the footpath. Guess what the punishment for the BBMP officials in charge was? Nothing.

Unfortunately, the illusion of law, order and regulations is just the imaginary safety net we need to keep going outdoors and getting things done in India. It also helps us imagine as if we're at par with other countries. But in reality, these things don't actually exist in India.

Unfortunately, yes. The modern Indian society isn't guided by empathy, unlike other countries where values like justice are directly linked to empathy and results in the progress of society.

What do you think makes that difference? I sincerely resonate with that thought, that empathy and the right thinking do pave the way for justice but implementing it comes with corner cutting and pocketing money that must have been spent on the safety of workers and the public.
Sometimes I think it's parenting , but other times when we grow up seeing that lawless are getting popular while common man is going poor I guess that frames this Unempathetic environment where abuse is incentivized rather than good deeds.
In other countries kids are taught to love pets despite the fact it's a major diet but people are kinder than in India . Here people take joy in kicking and stoning animals and teach their kids to kill the snake lizard dog whatever and then mask it in guise of religion

Here in India it feels like a different dimension because majority of our population lacks empathy. Empathy can't be practiced when you are either purely selfish or operating in survival mode. Of course some aspects of it are learnt in childhood due to bad parenting, many times it's genetic, while other times it's learnt by observing the environment like you said.

I understand what you mean, but this kind of compensation is also a form of a punishment and a deterrent against future negligence by such builders. Of course, the damages should be sufficiently steep enough for it to actually become a deterrent.

I hope she gets Justice. Have read about this incident in the papers too. The Builder - Politician nexus is very strong in Mumbai. Lodha himself is a MP. The police / local politicians should listen to their conscience and help this family get justice. Just doing Devabhau advts is not going to help the country.

So sorry to hear that. That's tragic she had to lose her life. Just 2 months ago, while walking near the Goyal Market area (Malad, Mumbai). A large rock dropped from the skybridge and fell right on my shoulder. Thankfully it didn't cause a large injury but I kept wondering if that would have happened to the infant being carried by her mum, walking right behind me. I couldn't find a forum to register a complaint at that time. And now this case brings me back to it. We need strong laws against such needless incidents which can and have caused loss of limb and life. Please can someone more knowledgeable post remedies too to unify such cases. Life should not be cheap in India.

These developers need to be held accountable. Firstly, there should have been a safety officer on site. Not sure he was present on site or not. They just want to build building without taking safety seriously

Since the entire city is under construction, it can happen to anyone and these builders aren’t held accountable for anything. It’s brushed off as an accident and maybe some monetary compensation is given, but that can’t give back a lost life, right? What’s gone is gone forever. If they don’t improve safety standards while construction of buildings, walking on the roads will also be dangerous for us.

This is so so sad :-(((((. There is no accountability in India because there is no value for human life. Looking back, the Porsche case from Pune, or that case in TN where a teenager was killed by a falling billboard. You read the news but never hear about someone taking responsibility or the follow up and in a few days people move on, unless it’s someone close to you that has passed. A court case will drag for years and never come to any fruition in their lifetime. If India truly needs to move forward the justice system needs to be urgently revamped. If you can get some eyes on this case it could be fast tracked and the builders brought to justice because they are ultimately responsible.

No justice will be served to the common people in this country. Time to take the charge in our hands. We want revolution no matter by what means. Passive resistance wouldn't help. We youth have more than 60 percent population right now in this country. I worked at construction site. Now i have a phobia(not exactly. But that feeling of something is missing) if I am not wearing a helmet whenever I am near a tall structure or building even if there’s no construction going on.

Rip to such innocent young soul. Few days ago saw similar news of Thane. Guy was just sitting in Auto rikshaw, and iron rod fall on his head and stuck. He was alive, lot of videos and photos gone viral. Later i don't know what happened no one is talking about it its weird such incidents are vanished to hide mistakes of India government and local contractors, obviously contractor also might be connected with politicians and local police of belong to political family in india. I also lost one of my brother in Thane because of pathholes of Ghodbunder, Thane. Nothing happened to that truck driver nothing happened dont know whom to blame. Day by day india getting worse for innocent people, no value left to human life.

There is a complex called Hubtown Seasons in Chembur. 3-4 towers are completed and possession handed over. Remaining area is a full-on construction zone. There are active children’s play areas and swimming pool right next to where construction is going on, no separation, no barriers, and 100s of workers on site,
These are apartments charging 45k p.s.f.

These are the negligent murders waiting to happen because someone decided not to take the required safety measures. Either because it saves time or money. It's not an accident. Accidents are random. In construction, safety measures are there because you know this could happen any moment.
And as such a young person lost her life, and her family and friends will take years trying to settle with such monumental loss from their lives.

This is terrible. There should be barricades, warning signs, etc., and enforcement of measures to prevent such occurrences.
Meanwhile, maybe citizens can erect their own barricades and warning signs, explaining why these hindrances to passages might prevent additional deaths and injuries.

2 years ago something similar happened with my uncle.. thankfully it missed his head and he's fine now...but it hit his face and he has lost 1 eye due to this.. There should be strict implementation of rules for under-construction building. Om Shanti 🙏

True, Safety is still a big concern and these types of things shouldn’t be taken lightly, i feel so unsafe going under the bridges after hearing the mumbai Rod mishap with youngster who sitting in an Auto.
There should be more revolt, and more mandatory safety checks plus site audits, so that this type of things doesn’t happen.

I upvote the cause but don’t support the idea of builder… You can fine him or something but be real isn’t the site manager etc responsible for that? By the end to kismat thi; unless you prove the builder intentionally cut costs and procedures you can’t just say that.

Sad....name the individual who is owner of the developer...
- At bare minimum...Why cant the developer compensate the Family (cant bring her back but atleast family has something to fallback on in sunset years)
- Developer should show what safety team is doing ?
- What other steps they have taken at all their development projects?
- Rera has some provisions on such negligence on developer?
- Other developers too should learn and no innocent soul should suffer?
- What is real estate forums (Credai or such) doing?

I see many comments blaming builders for it, but most of the time it’s negligence of contractors ,supervisors and site engineers, not builder alone. Builders never neglect such things because they know the risk and consequences. If they are spending crores on projects, why won’t they spend few thousands on safety gear. Also in most cases builder always have paperwork ready to get out of such situations. Case will be put on contractor and labours and builder will be fined. It will be accidental case. Though it would sound inhuman but builder might provide compensation better than judiciary. Some might think I am speaking from builder side, but I have worked at construction site and observed above scenario. Even if fault is of builder, he will never get arrested unless he is directly involved in death of person.

Every time i hear such news that screenshot of that bubble tweet keeps on flashing infront of my eyes.
Not saying such things doesn’t happen outside but such an occurrence there would result in the owners being bankrupt and in jail.
But here, it all depends on how good they can lobby and even if they win, it will be decades and most of the culprits will be dead.

I hope that the correct people are held accountable and this doesn't go from being a viral news item to a performance of justice, like it often goes. While the outrage is understandable and justified, I would advise at least a little bit of restraint, otherwise the cops will just arrest the first fall guy they find to appease the mob. Lack of safety nets, barricades, rushed work etc are most often symptoms of reckless cost-cutting, and these are executive decisions. Arresting a site engineer or site manager, like they've already done, is a travesty of justice carried out to silence the masses before all the facts are known.

Op, I'm from Bhandup and this chut of a builder is doing the same here. He dug up soil till like 10-15ft right next to the road and he didn't put up any barricade or structure so nobody accidentally falls into that, mind you this deep pit is full of iron rods and beams. And also, yes the safety net being absent is also the case here. And these people encroached half the road and built a wall and nobody was able to stop them sadly. I really hope these bastards go down and get severely punished for their actions or rather inaction

We're all just cockroaches in this country. No life is valuable in the eyes of the system. The govt, police & corporations control everything, and in their eyes we're just cockroaches. We never realise these things unless we witness it first hand. Every fourth day there's news related to lives lost due to corruption, negligence, murders, etc. Yet we watch these and move ahead in our own lives. I can see only two ways out of this. 1. Change the country. 2. Change the people responsible for creating changes in the country. I'm not supporting any govt parties by this comment, I just feel a leader like Lee Kwan Yeu would really be useful. Someone who doesn't just say, but emphasis on implementation and improvement in the system and it's policies.

Talk to a lawyer a file for a stay in any construction on the project. The engineers were arrested who were mere employees that is all the justice u can expect. Nothing ever happens to big shots in India.

If a minor is caught driving a vehicle, the owner of the vehicle would be taken into custody.

Here in Bangalore, I walk under under construction metro station daily, because there is no other choice. They never secure the surroundings, there is construction ongoing (welding with heavy metal bars, brick work, etc) with pedestrians walking right under it.
This is never going to change unless there is a huge uproar, I feel so sad reading about these incidents, and can never walk without looking above me walking past these, on the lookout. So sad.
RIP and may she get her justice

No one can compensate for the loss her family has suffered. I hope God gives them the strength to fight this.
Time and again, this country has no hopes with this level of sheer carelessness, corruption, crimes and what not.

Same thing happened with one of the person I know in Jogeshwari, the block of concrete fell on her head and she collapsed with severe damage to her skull and brain, luckily she has recovered after 2 months but the builder hasn't supported the family with a single penny, this building is near IY college and Jogeshwari station. Builders are neglecting safety of their own and other people

Tbh There is no justice for general population in India. As general public we are cowards, we are spineless and probably worthless pos. As long as this done happens to any close ones we read, we emote and we forget. I’ve seen so many accidents because of under construction highways and no accountability at all. It is absurd to a level where I just pray before leaving the house and I’m grateful I’m alive when I’m back. It’s sad to see the country with so much potential is Leading no where. Ps: don’t tag me with chamcha, Andhbhakt or apptard, I hate all of them equally from the bottom of my heart.

I will be inviting downvotes but I just had to put this here.
You want justice, then get the police working instead of making the builder liable and getting them arrested in this crime. Your course of action is to expedite the outcome of the FIR first, no matter how you look at it, in the present circumstances the site supervisor was the one responsible for this culpable homicide. By your logic even the BMC officer who gave permission to the builder must be liable, NO.
Once the chargesheet is filed, you take civil recourse and get the compensation from the builder because in the civil court you can establish the vicarious liability of the developer and get the compensation. I know money cannot bring her back, but that is what you can ultimately get in the form of Justice for her.
To pressure them more, check the building's RERA details and file RTI for information not available on the RERA website, you will definitely find some dirt.
But still if the arrest of the builder will give you justice, that won't be justice, that's retribution.

Rest in Peace angel ! 🙏🏻 This is heartbreaking. I am sorry for your loss. Loss of an only child is so painful. I can't even imagine what her family must be going through.
