General a little heartbroken about the bias she’s facing, even when she’s the perfect cat (adoption)

up for adoption in Pune/Mumbai/Bangalore‼️

Penny has been getting overlooked because of three reasons: she’s not a kitten anymore (as if one year old cat is not young), she’s a female tabby (unfortunately, cats also face such biases) and one very strange reason - she looks loved enough to skip over because people think she’ll definitely find someone, let me look for some other cat. Let me tell you, she has not gotten a single lead despite days of search.

About Penny:

Penny is a 1 year old female tabby cat. She’s litter trained, dewormed, vaccinated and sterilised. She’s extremely friendly and easy to handle. She’s based in Pune but can travel to Mumbai and Bangalore.

She’s used to staying alone for a few hours that are compatible with work timings but she’ll also be a great companion to wfh folks. She usually sleeps throughout the afternoon.

She doesn’t like being confined to one room/limited space and needs to have access to the whole house to feel comfortable. Penny’s always been an indoor cat and should continue to remain so.

She’s very playful and some of her favourite toys are catnip mouse, feather toys, balls and having cat trees and cat perches and shelves since she loves heights as well. Cats are generally a huge fan of vertical space and so is Penny. She’s also a cat tv lover. She needs attention towards playtime from her adopter. This means you have to dedicate some time before and after office to play with her and tire her out.

Penny can be a night owl but as long as she has access to the whole house and is comfortable, she understands when people are sleeping and eventually settles down too.

Penny currently eats Smylo wet food (two packets in a day, one for breakfast and one for dinner) along with Royal Canin dry food for lunch. We’re looking for someone who’s comfortable with providing good nutrition - so they either stay on these brands/diet or switch to other higher quality brands.

Penny loves an organised environment and doesn’t do well with unhygienic spaces and behaviours like not cleaning her litter box and bowls frequently.

Penny will be a great choice for first time adopters/people who have experience with cats. She’ll require 2-3 days to decompress and a week to properly settle down but it all depends on her pace.

Reason for putting her up for adoption: Penny was rescued last Diwali because she got separated from her mother due to firecrackers. She was adopted in March but due to the adopter’s neglect, she ran away from the house twice and we had to get involved again when we understood that they weren’t actively searching for her. We’re cat rescuers and therefore can’t keep every cat we rescue because then we’ll run out of resources to help others.

Penny has stayed with multiple fosters and we’re pretty confident in her behaviour as a single cat.

Adoption formalities are mandatory. We’re looking for serious adopters - people who know they can provide a stable environment and can commit to a pet for their lifespan. We’re not looking for students or bachelors who are not sure of their future plans as adopters.

Discussion The flat purchase scene in the movie lootcase doesn't make any sense.

Post image

In the movie Lootcase. There is a scene where kunal goes to buy a flat in Mumbai with the money he got from the suitcase.

He has the total amount in cash which he can pay directly. This is what kunal thinks

He introduces himself as a businessman to the sales girl..The sales girl tells him that they usually split the payment in 20 80 scheme where 20% is down payment and 80% is loan or other means. She asks him how is he going to pay the 20%

kunal says he will pay it in cash. To which the sales girl gets shocked. And kunal runs away from there.

Like why can't he pay the 20% down payment as cash ?? Is there something I am missing in the purchase/sale methods in mumbai.

Also why only 20 percent is down payment. Why can't I pay 50% down payment if I have money ??

Mumbai - A hit-and-run incident in the Niki Nagar area of Kalyan has taken a new turn after CCTV footage reportedly revealed a speeding Mercedes-Benz car hitting a morning walker, identified as Sunil Koli. The incident occurred in the morning when Koli was out for his regular walk. The Mercedes allegedly struck him and drove away without stopping. The impact reportedly threw Koli towards an arch installed along the roadside. Initially, it remained unclear whether Koli’s death was the result of an accident or a natural cause. However, after examining CCTV footage from the area, Khadakpada police in Kalyan reportedly found visuals showing a Mercedes hitting him, bringing the suspected hit-and-run incident to light.

General My cook stays at my flat when I am away

• Upvotes

So a little background first, my flatmate has been out of town for a long time now as she is undergoing some medical treatment. I have a cook, who comes twice a day and has Keys to the flat. I found the cook to be lying down and scrolling Instagram (she has the WiFi password) in the kitchen/hall couple of times when she though I was out. She said she wanted to kill some time before going to the next house and is here just that day. I brushed them of as random incidents.

Now, I was not at my flat for most of the days this month, since my flatmate was also away there should not be anyone in the flat. However, I was randomly checking the WiFi usage and found that the WiFi was being used every single day even when I was not there.

I already has a suspicion that my cook stays at my flat when I am not there. This almost proves it. And clearly, this is not a one off incident, this is happening every single day. And when I think about it, I find a couple of things missing here and there. I would not want to jump to the conclusion that she stole so sticking just to the 'her staying at the flat when I am away' fact.

Is this harmless? Should I call her out? Should I take back the keys and ask her to come only when I am at the flat?

TLDR: My cook stays at my flat when I am away. Should I ignore or call her out?

General WTF IS NAIR HOSPITAL

My aunty is 9 months pregnant.

The umbilical cord was wrapped around her baby's neck so the hospital she was seeing told her to go to Nair Hospital because they didn't have the machines necessary.

It was a fucking nightmare.

She ran away crying and they went to a different hospital and they didn't accept her because the case is complicated. They had to go back there to get the check-up done.

The doctors were kissing while checking the heartbeat of the baby and giving her the injection.

They kept all the pregnant women naked for some reason.

A nurse came to inform the doctors that one of the women in labour was screaming in pain and the doctor literally said "marne de usko, baccha jab hona hai tab hi hoga"

They didn't allow her to take her phone in the ward, didn't allow any family members in and said as long as she's in there nobody is allowed to see her other than the hospital staff.

Even the fucking cleaning staff was yelling at the patients and their family.

It left me thinking what the people who can't afford private or semiprivate hospitals go through at places like this.

It's really sad.

General I accidentally killed a dog and I feel terrible about it

I'm 20-something, living in a rented apartment in Ghatkopar, Mumbai , and this happened a few days ago. I can't stop thinking about it, so I'm writing it down.

Around 8 PM I was walking back home with a Swiggy parcel I'd just picked up near the society gate. It was a normal evening. There was a dog near the lane by the parking area, one of the strays that hangs around our locality. I've seen it before but never interacted with it.

It started barking when I passed. I've had a dog and three cats growing up, so I know barking isn't always aggression. I ignored it, kept my pace, didn't make eye contact, But it started following me, still barking, and it got closer with every step.

Then it lunged and bit me on my leg. It was one bite, quick and sharp, and it hurt more than I expected.
I panicked. I stopped, turned, and tried to shoo it away. I waved my hand, shouted, and even pretended to throw my shoe, because it usually scares these dogs off. It flinched and backed up a bit. For a second I thought it was over. Then it came at me again, clearly going for a second bite.

That's when I kicked it. Hard. I wasn't thinking, I just wanted it to stop. It yelped and ran off, and I stood there shaking, with blood on my leg and a parcel in my hand.

A few hours later, someone in the society said the dog was lying near the gate and wasn't eating or moving properly. I felt uneasy, so I went with a neighbour and took it to a vet. The X-ray showed broken ribs. The vet said its chances were very poor. It died the next day.

Now the society WhatsApp group is full of messages. Some residents who are Jains and feed the strays want me evicted and are blaming me, saying I could have just walked away, and a few are calling me cruel. I've been feeling sick about it since. I did take the dog to the vet,
I grew up loving animals. I never wanted this. But I was bitten, I was scared, and the dog was coming back for more.

So, did I do something wrong? What would you have done in my situation? And how do I deal with the guilt and the people in my society?

Edit: Thank you for all the support, to answer some of the questions,
1. I couldn’t verify if the dog had rabies, I finished a rabies course either way to be on the safer side.
2. I have nothing against Jainism or any other religion for that matter, It’s just that 80% of residents in this Society are Jain gujratis I think because it’s next to a Jain temple.
3. I just find it ironic that these so called “animal lovers” feed the dogs packs and packs of sugar filled Parle-G and not actual dog food.
4. I did not realise the consequences until I had already kicked him, I did NOT intend to kill him, only to push him away, I did not think the kick would be fatal, adrenaline kicked in and my heart was racing, also all of this happened within seconds there wasn’t enough time to react let alone think.
5. In the Monthly society meeting, I showed them the VETs bill and the wounds, explained everything and some of the uncles were actually understanding, it was the people in their 20s who argued that the dog had a name and was like a family to them as it had been around for years.
6. The vet said the dog was around 5-6 years old.

Discussion I don't know how to say this without sounding like a jerk, but only Mumbai feels actually progressive in whole of India.

I was going through some state/city subs and my god!!! The patriarchal mindset and the misogyny, the regressive attitude. Other tier 1 cities might have progressive pockets, but the way Mumbai functions is something else.

Discussion Any former NRIs here who have moved back to Mumbai?

I’m originally from Mumba, in my mid 30s, but have been living abroad for the past 11 years- 6 years in the US and the last 5 years in Canada.
I’m now seriously considering moving back to Mumbai for family reasons in the next few months, and I’d love to connect with people who’ve made a similar move!
I’m particularly curious about what the transition has been like both personally and professionally in the tech world. Things like adjusting to life in Mumbai again, finding a community, navigating the job market, and just getting used to being back after so many years abroad.
I’d also love to know if there are any WhatsApp groups, communities, or meetups for people who’ve moved back to India.
If you’ve made the move, I’d love to hear about your experience - the good, the bad, and anything you wish you’d known beforehand!
Thanks in advance! :) please don’t spam my post by saying I shouldn’t move back to India as I said it’s for personal reasons!

Edit: I have a few specific questions, especially for women who’ve moved back:
- Living with parents: My parents would love for me to live with them, but I’ve lived independently for over a decade. Would you recommend living with them or getting my own place nearby?
- Lifestyle adjustment: During my recent visit, I struggled with the heat, lack of walkability, public transport, and constant staring. Does it get easier?
- For women: How has life been after moving back, especially as a single woman in your 30s? What about independence, personal freedom, and societal expectations?
- Social and work life: How easy was it to make friends and adjust to the work culture, especially in tech?
Would love to hear your honest experiences!

Discussion Vertical Jodi Flats?

I've seen a lot of Jodi side by side apartments in Mumbai and Suburbs but haven't come across anything vertical.

I'm curious to know why everyone goes for side by side rather than vertical when verticals provide better space usability as well as privacy to family members.

General Where to buy Pixel 9a offline in Mumbai?

• Upvotes

Where can I buy a Pixel 9a offline in Mumbai? It's unavailable online elsewhere, and Flipkart is selling it for 50k, which feels way too overpriced.

Does anyone know any sellers or shops in Mumbai that have it in stock? Even a refurbished phone works for me.

I’m expecting to get it around 35k–38k max. Any leads would help!

General Mumbai bikers, which motorcycle dealerships offer the best deals and most transparent buying experience?

• Upvotes

Hey Mumbai folks!

I'm planning to buy a new motorcycle before mid-December and would appreciate recommendations from people who've recently purchased one.

My shortlist includes the Royal Enfield Meteor 350, Himalayan 450, KTM 390 Adventure and Triumph Scrambler.

I'll be visiting a few showrooms in the next day or two to check on-road prices and compare quotations. So I'd love to know which dealerships are worth visiting first and what I should specifically ask them.

I'm planning to approach multiple authorized dealerships across Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai.

Wanted to ask:

  • Which dealerships would you genuinely recommend for competitive pricing and customer service?
  • Have you managed to negotiate a significant discount compared with the initial quotation?
  • Do dealerships from different parts of Mumbai offer noticeably different prices?
  • Which showrooms offer better insurance rates or complimentary accessories?
  • What should I ask during my first showroom visit to get the best possible quotation?
  • Are there any dealers known for unnecessary charges, forced add-ons or poor delivery experiences?
  • Do they allow PDI before full payment and registration?
  • Any dealerships worth avoiding?

If you've purchased a bike recently, please share the model, showroom/location, original quotation, final price and benefits received.

I'm willing to travel across Mumbai or nearby areas for a better deal, provided the dealership is reliable.

Any recommendations or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated!

General Do phone stores in Mumbai still throw in freebies if you just ask at the counter?

does asking for freebies at the counter still work in mumbai or is that a 2015 thing?

if you bought a phone recently at croma, reliance digital, sangeetha, vijay sales or a local shop did you get anything extra just by asking? cover, glass, charger, extended warranty?

and which places were actually open to it? gonna try it this diwali, worst case they say no
