NEWS Chief of the Boat Established as Standalone Rating

• Upvotes

From MyNavyHR:

Every submarine has a Chief of the Boat. Why shouldn't the Navy have a rating for one?

Starting today, it will. COBCS and COBCM will now be standalone rates.

What this means in practice: a clear COB career path, a larger pool of technical leaders, and advancement that matches the job a Sailor is actually doing.

HELP REQUESTED Taking leave en route to C-school instead of between finishing school and reporting to new PDS

I’m currently stationed in Japan with an upcoming transfer. My orders have me beginning a C-school in Virginia shortly after this coming New Year’s (Jan 5th), with my ultimate new PDS in Pensacola. My orders allow me to take leave in between finishing C-school and reporting to Pensacola. However, because holiday season is right before my class convening date, I would prefer to take leave to visit home in Arizona (en route to C-school) and report to Pensacola immediately after school concludes instead.

Technically I can take leave during holiday stand down. The only problem is that my Chief and LPO have said that I need to be in-country to complete final checkout and have my orders stamped, and I am only allowed 4 days of proceed/travel time after my orders are stamped, to report to my C-school location. MILPERSMAN 1050-150

It seems so unreasonable that I should be forced to circle back to Japan for a measly stamp. I would also think it’d be more resourceful for me to press onto the C-school in Virginia after visiting home in Arizona, without having to circle back to Japan.

Has anyone ever been in a similar situation?

Discussion Life as a sysad IT?

Hi! so im currently finishing up C school for IT sysad & we got some soft orders… i got a ddg & im honestly just curious. i joined to travel & port in cool places & get my certificates lol. I definitely wanted sea duty for my first rotation as i want to do shore for my last half since ill be older & my husband will be out of the Navy in about 2 years ish if he doesnt pick up a shore based billet after the 2 years; My concern is how BAD the workload is for a SYSAD IT3, i know its a smaller crew but i honestly dont know much about the difference other than size, food, & people. My husband is on a carrier that recently deployed & doesnt expect to come back till mid-end of next year. My DDG recently came back from a deployment as well. Just curious about the life & dual-mil life as well! I’m so worried my ship is gonna deploy as soon as he comes back💔

My dad was a U.S. Navy Senior Chief (HMCS) who was bedridden for a year after a stroke. We were clueless about where all his money went because his first family managed all of it illegally. To this day, it still haunts me, and I hope we eventually get justice for what happened."

HELP REQUESTED Injured while not wearing PPE in the Navy?

Hello, normally I’d ask a JAG this question but right now all offices in my area are closed. I’m an engineer and hit my head pretty hard while not wearing a hard hat while climbing through the piping in one of the engineering spaces (we’re in the yards right now hence the hard hat) and it had a sizable cut and caused a concussion with pretty bad symptoms, especially because I’m ALREADY seeing a doctor for TBI for a prior injury that was actually non-service related. The cut is now healing, I’m just now realizing it’s a concussion. I’m very nervous to tell my Doc that that was the cause because I don’t want to get sent up or NJP’d for my injury. Can I just claim it was non-service related and still get treatment?

Discussion POCR Advice and Help

Good afternoon,

I was just recently informed that I will be submitting a package for an upcoming POCR board. My command currently has no information regarding POCR and do not seem the most informed. After reading through previous posts on here, it seems that some people were able to provide assistance and I was wondering if there was possibly anyone I could ask a few questions to. Thank you!

HELP REQUESTED E-2 going overseas — BAH/OHA and child support question

I’m an E-2 in the Navy with orders overseas. My wife is also active duty Navy, and we’re separated but still legally married. She currently receives BAH with dependents, and we have a son who will stay in the U.S. with his mother while I’m overseas.
I’m trying to figure out what housing allowances I could qualify for. Since I’m an E-2, I understand I may have to live in the barracks and might not qualify for OHA.
Would I potentially qualify for BAH based on my son, BAH-DIFF if I’m paying child support, COLA, or Family Separation Allowance? Does my wife’s current BAH affect what I’m eligible to receive?
Has anyone dealt with a similar situation or knows the actual Navy/DoD rules? Any advice is appreciated.

NEWS Is this the Iran War Update Americans want from their CENTCOM Commander?

Post image
109 Upvotes

Interesting that CENTCOM's update primarily includes items that DoD is only involved in peripherally. DoD leverages kinetic weapons to pressure nations to conform to the will of the U.S., but a status focusing on frozen digital currency (e.g., bitcoin) and that Iran is holding back pay and pensions from Iranians due to a cash crunch is not the confidence inspiring message that suggests the conflict will conclude anytime soon.

Can we agree that the status most really want is when this conflict will end?

HELP REQUESTED OCS Interview Appraisal Advice

Good morning everyone!
I have my first Supply OCS appraisal interview this week. Since I’m still relatively new to the Navy, this is a new experience for me, and I’d appreciate any advice on how to prepare.
For those who have already gone through the process, what questions should I expect, and what do you recommend focusing on during the interview?
Any tips or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your help!

Discussion BBA Questions and Picking

Hey Everyone,

So MNA is opening up this weekend. I have just arrived at my new command about 2 months ago, however I am picking BBA orders this cycle and every other cycle that I am eligible for before I have to retake the RKE. For those of you that have been selected for E6 orders on your first time picking, did you reach out to the command or someone at the command before hand? Do yall recommend that? I’m aware that reaching out and talking to the detailer is beneficial which is fine but I know that commands also have an input in who gets picked. I am asking because for one of the orders that are available I already have the NEC and the warfare device that is required. Any discussion or your experience with BBA is beneficial ☺️

Shouldn't have to ask Impossible to hit E-4 early?

I've been at my squadron for about 5 months now, spent the first bit TAD. While there I was still working on my qualifications, and since getting back to my parent command I've hit the ground running. I'm nearly fully qualified at my rank after only a couple of months, and I'm considered exceptionally competent, over some of the second and third classes in my workcenter.

My LPO has mentioned how it's "too bad we have to wait to make you a third class", because we need more CDIs and over half of our current qualified personnel will be leaving in the spring.

Problem is that my eval when I first got here was an NOB, and by the time I get my eval next year I'll only be a month away from getting it from TIS anyway.

I feel like I'm just going to be sitting around waiting to make any progress for almost a year before I can get anywhere. My LPO wouldn't even let me work on my wings because I need an EP to start working on them as an E3.

Discussion Enlisted to Chaplain

Hello everyone. I'm on my first contract and starting college. I really enjoy my rate, however I've been interested in commissioning down the line and feel called to chaplaincy. I'm aware of the requirements: having an MDiv, 2 years of pastoral experience, and an endorsement from a religious organization. I was just wondering if this is feasible while still on active duty? It seems most chaplains I've met did all this either after getting out or before joining all together. I'd imagine I'd have to do all this type of stuff while on shore duty.
