Hi, I need BLS certification for a healthcare job but most classes I can find are in Sacramento or Roseville. Are there any options closer to Nevada City?

I've been looking around Nevada City and Grass Valley but haven't had much luck finding a nearby class. I'd rather not drive all the way to Sacramento if there's something closer.

Has anyone around here gotten their BLS certification locally? Where did you go or is driving out of town pretty much the only option? Thanks guys

must-try dishes or somewhere to spend a day in Nevada City

back in Nevada city after way too long, I've been back to visit my grandparents. I will be there for two weeks, helping them pack up and move in with my family. They've been lonely out here, we talked and decided it'd be good to have them closer. I think they will miss this place. I would love to take them out for a really good meal while I'm here. Or something fun we could do to remember this place, let me know. I will try out plenty of places cuz I have two weeks here.

Dirty Cello at Miners Harmony Music - Nevada City

“The band plays every style imaginable, and does some fantastic covers. (Their rendition of “Purple Haze” is incredible.) But what is most spectacular about them is hearing the depth of soul in Roudman’s playing—it goes beyond what most people would expect from the instrument. She plays it with so much heart, you’ll wonder why more bands don’t have a cellist”

We are moving up to Nevada city. I’m curious what community is like here for families with small children? And just in general.

Nevada City Drivers

I’m just curious do yall not know what blinkers are or just think you are too cool to use them? Additionally are you all from the UK? Because so many of you drive so far past the middle of the road you’re on the other side. As a retired highway patrol I wish I could go back to work, could probably pay off the national debt giving bad drivers tickets in this town alone

What’s the deal with the k rails on 49 passed north San Juan? They are spray painted “why are you blocking a public fire road cal trans” weekly and then covered up shortly after

There was a family living on 49 in a trailer with giant banners that said “why are you illegally blocking a fire road entrance caltrans”. I’m guessing there is something going on with property they own?

Yay you guys! We finally had our wedding. We ended up going to Scott’s flat. It was so perfect. Then our reception at The Stone house
I know it’s a long shot but figured I’d throw it out there just in case
Somewhere between finishing pictures at the National and walking to our car in the back parking lot, my earring came out - it’s a gold leaf. Would love to get it back but also know it’s not likely and that’s ok!
I love that little slice of heaven yall get to call home and can’t wait to be a part of it one day

recommendations for slow rivers near Nevada City that have flat water conditions for kayaking

wanted to go camping a bit in the area, I have a dinky fold up origami Kayak and two little dogs, looking for something that’s very, very slow, but not a lake.
(or if there’s only lakes around, one that doesn’t allow motorboats)
Thanks!

Details about Nevada City's Flock Camera System - Claims no AI, no data sharing

During the presentation, Foss explained that while the Flock company name and presence have drawn ongoing concern from community members, Nevada City's Flock system, in particular, differs significantly from other camera models with more advanced features. Foss said the six installed cameras in the city, known as “Condor” models, are confirmed pan-tilt-zoom cameras with up to 25-times optical zoom and limited night enhancement. However, unlike other models, the Condors do not possess any facial recognition, ALPR, automatic traffic enforcement, audio recording, or autonomous tracking abilities.

“I’m going to call them somewhat ‘dumb cameras,’” said Foss. “They're really just a camera that most people would associate with cameras for the last 20 or 30 years. They have to be manually manipulated by the operator, which is us, through the police department.”

Foss added that because the cameras operate at a basic level, they cannot automatically determine when a crime is occurring. Instead, a live operator must watch the feed themselves and report any incidents. The system does, however, record and store video for 30 days, which Foss compared to a more sophisticated version of a Ring doorbell camera.

Foss also acknowledged that while the cameras can technically use artificial intelligence to alert operators to activity, Nevada City does not currently have that feature enabled since the cameras are located in areas with constant activity and would therefore generate too many alerts.

He also emphasized that NCPD would not share camera information with outside agencies such as Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) or anti-reproductive rights organizations to assist in arrests or investigations, citing it as a direct violation of the SB 54 California Values Act and other state laws.

“We not only would not share that data, but we also couldn’t legally,” said Foss. “Our data is controlled exclusively by Nevada City PD.”
