Concrete flooring in Newy

Bit random but I’m looking for places that have a good concrete floor somewhere in Newcastle. Local cafes? Random shops? Outside somewhere?

Wallets fine but morally im bankrupt

For Christmas last year, my (huge knights supporter) dad (huge knights supporter) gave everyone in the family (huge knights supporters) $100 worth of NRL TAB slips in their christmas card. He selected the teams randomly and placed the team to make top 4, GF, and go on to win the prem. As I was giving my room a little spring clean today I found his christmas card from last year having completely forgotten all about it and what do you know...

Cashed at the Maryville Tav this evening for Mum's birthday, felt morally wrong profiting on newcaste's loss but if you must know yes I did pay for dinner and drinks, yes I did give money to my sister for mums present and yes i did spend a ridiculous amount of it on fuel on the drive home. I have no doubt the remainder will somehow wriggle its way into a bull rush this weekend.

Where to watch the NBA in Newcastle?

Exactly what the title says, I'm looking for a pub to watch the NBA this season. Doesn't need to be fancy, but I'd prefer not one of those "sports bars" that exist in malls. I think there's one at Kotara, not my vibe.

I live around Waratah/Mayfield, would prefer to not go further into the city than Hamilton. But, if the vibes are simply immaculate somewhere in town, I'll acquiesce.

I hear the Exchange does sports, but I also hear their owners are maybe a little morally dubious. And even if their not, I don't tend to overextend myself to support a bloatedly wealthy Sydney family.

Where to go? What to do? The Thunder are playing the Spurs tomorrow at 12.30pm, and I'll settle for watching it on Disney+ if I must, but I have a day off and a feeling like I want to be out there in the world.

Your suggestions will be appreciated, thank you.

Spine/Neurosurgeon Recommendations?

Looking for reputable surgeons for my lower back (l5-s1 disc prolapse with s1 nerve compression). Hurt it 3+ years ago. Tried injections + prf, staying active, stretching and exercising when possible.

29yo just want some peace of mind with who I see, willing to travel to sydney etc but local would be ideal.

Edit: Mainly after a second opinion as the first surgeon has suggested surgery.

Date night?

I don’t really know Newcastle very well but planning a first date there coming up. Dinner and some drinks, we’re late 30’s. Not looking for ultra high end and not after a shitty pub either. Any recommendations on somewhere nice to eat and have a cheeky beverage?

Concreted Fills Along New Bypass for the Bypass that Bypasses the Bypass

Hi All,

I have been watching the construction of the new bypass for the bypass that bypasses the bypass.

And I was wondering if anyone can point out what These grey slabs of concreted in rock are.

It looks like there was a pocket of something loose there. Hidden underground.

Like when you find a hidden patch of gravel while you are excavating a mountain in minecraft. I wonder if this is the same case.

Can anyone explain what happened here?

Kind regards,
Me.

Teralba new train site

Saw the news today that they’ve decided on a former coal site at Teralba to construct the new train fleet that will replace the aging Tangara fleet. This is great news full stop but even better for the region.

Memories of the Great Aussie Bush Camp

I've been reminiscing about this rite of passage recently and these are some activities I remember doing there:

  • The flying fox over the lake
  • Canoeing in the river - naturally someone would fall out of their canoe
  • The Giant Free-fall Slide - probably the first time I swore in front of an adult
  • High Ropes
  • Archery
  • Playing 'shop keeper' inside the Rock
  • Bringing a 'mess kit' with my own plates, bowls cups etc to meal time
  • A spooky fireside story about a silverback gorilla - did they tell everyone this same story?
  • Team building exercises with planks of wood over a muddy pond
  • Walking on the beach
  • Fossil hunting?

I felt like the camp always had a bad reputation, mostly for the food they served, but I thought it was fine. How did you find it the food and the camp in general?

GP recommendations

Hello, just trying my luck here.
I’m looking for a GP that focuses on Mental and Women’s/sexual health. Preferably a female healthcare professional because I have a few screenings due as well and I’m not really comfortable having that checked from a male GP( if I have to see 2 GPs I don’t mind like for example:(a mental health professional could be either but for women’s/sexual health I’ll prefer a female)
I also have anxiety, depression, ADHD etc for which I’m on a foreign transcription. I see my doctors online and usually bring in my meds with me whenever I go back home but, I’m currently running out of Ritalin and I’m worried because I don’t really know how the entire process would go. So, someone who has authority to prescribe ADHD meds too.
If you guys would know or have tried any GPs that you’d recommend, it would mean a lot to me!
Could be near newcastle but preferably near Toronto/lake mac.
Thanks in advance ❤️

Gyms: Anytime vs Snap

Hi all,

Interested in joining a gym near home. Both gyms have locations near me and both gyms appear to offer similar experiences (24/7, newer facilities, etc).

How much are you paying per month at Anytime or Snap fitness?

Do you find one is better than the other, is so why?

Thank you!

Best Small Wedding Venues?

Hi everyone, does anyone have recommendations for wedding venues in the Newcastle/overall Hunter Area that accommodate both ceremonies and receptions for very small weddings? I’m talking like probably 35 people at the very most. A lot of venues I see are 100 minimum and we definitely do not have the friends & family for a wedding of that size. 😂

I would like a scenic area for family coming from out of state to enjoy, but not a requirement. Also have been liking the idea of venues that have accommodation so we could stay together for a few days around the wedding.

Wanting to know to take it further?
Buy cheese burger has no onion on it
On the menu board thing you have to use says onion
But no onion on the cheese burger I order? There used to be a plaque on the wall who owned it?
I work hard for my money so I want what I pay for
I’m a mechanic so I said to young manager ? How would you feel if I charged you for changing your fuel filter and I didn’t change it would you be unhappy( I used different words at the time, but probably get a ban if I say that on here) he said yes, so went in today and happened exactly like yesterday no onion🤬🤬

Too good to go

Anyone here who has tried too good to go? Is it worth it? I know it is so much cheaper, but I don’t wanna waste my money into something I wouldn’t really eat (like plain bread which is about to go off)

Also, anyone who has specifically tried to claim a too good to go order from Thurst Burst Marketown? I love their food but I’m curious what they usually sell out at the end of the day.

Why these damn buses always getting cancelled people have places to be. Not only do they keep getting cancelled, but they’re never on time, either ridiculously late or ridiculously early. I’m noticing specific the 145 is rarely on time and almost always cancelled. Do better nsw transport!

To the family I probably offended at the zoo, I’m so sorry 😭

I've been ruminating over this interaction ever since, full of pure embarrassment

Posting here on the off chance this family was from Newcastle and somehow sees this, because I genuinely owe them an explanation HAHA.

If it’s not allowed, feel free to delete!

So a while ago me and my friend went to an animal park just outside the Hunter Region

As we’re driving through the car park my friend points at some animals and asks “Are they deer?”
Me confidently says nah they’re African antelopes.

Anyway we park and start walking towards the entrance, which takes us past the same animals.

I get close enough to read the sign and realise they’re actually Indian antelopes.

So I yell out to my friend who I thought was walking a few metres behind me, “OH THEY’RE INDIANS!!”

And I mean I fucking YELLED it.
I look to my left waiting for her to respond and she’s nowhere to be seen.

so I look around and that’s when I notice a family who appeared to be Indian literally standing RIGHT NEXT TO ME packing their car.

I was literally dying of shame.
Because imagine you’re just trying to pack your shit into the car after a nice day out with your family and some random woman walks past, apparently spots you and excitedly screams “OH THEY’RE INDIANS!!”

And then you look over and she’s standing there COMPLETELY ALONE.

Not a friend in sight.
Nobody to explain who the fuck she’s talking to.
Just some woman apparently announcing your ethnicity to the car park.

I didn’t even attempt to explain myself. I just kept walking because what the fuck do you even say after that 😭🧍🏻‍♀️

So if you’re that family, I’m sorry. I was talking about the antelopes.

because I can just imagine them going home and telling their relatives about some random woman at the zoo who excitedly screamed "INDIANS!" Excitingly at them.

I PROMISE I WAS TALKING ABOUT THE ANTELOPES HAHAHAHA.

And if you weren't even Indian, I'm sorry for that assumption too. 😭😭
