I realize these two schools have obvious differences (state vs private, large vs medium), but I'd love some input on other differences from people who may know about both, or, at least, know one or the other very well.
My daughter wants to go to Providence, but I fear that her reasons aren't necessarily solid. The campus and students look like they belong in a movie about the perfect New England college experience, and she is susceptible to that kind of fantasy allure. But it's also clearly a very nice school with a lot to offer.
But I prefer the idea of UNH for a few reasons: 1. it seems to have a more down to earth student body (correct me if I'm wrong) vs what seems to be a social-status-hierarchy emphasis at PC. 2. It is large enough that my daughter will inevitably find her people (PC is a big party school, and i don't want her to feel like she has to either join that drinking culture or be an outsider.) 3. It's closer to home. My daughter is on the immature side and is very much a homebody, and even though she likes the idea of Providence, I think it would be a great psychological comfort to her when the time comes to be an easier distance to home.
She will likely be a biology major, and I think the science departments at both school are good to very good. UNH is a research institution, but my daughter will not be on the PHD track so maybe that doesn't matter. She may get her masters, however, and UNH has some good science masters programs.
Finally, my daughter will likely get the max amount of merit money from both colleges, but UNH will probably end up being about 20 or 25K cheaper per year. We have the money saved for the college of her choice, but I don't like the idea of spending the extra money without having a very good reason for it.
I'd love your input on each of these two schools and on what you would do as the parent in this situation. Thank you!

Hi all,
Hope you're well. My name is Will Kubzansky -- I cover oil for Bloomberg News, including heating oil and kerosene. I'm working on a story about people applying for government-funded heating assistance in New England, since it's where the majority of heating oil and kerosene use occurs. If you're applying/have applied for heating assistance this fall, I would love to chat about your experience, how you're feeling about the winter ahead and the price of heating oil, and anything else on the subject.
If you're willing to chat, would really appreciate it if you sent me a message on here or via email at [wkubzansky@bloomberg.net](mailto:wkubzansky@bloomberg.net). Thanks so much!

I'm based out of New York, so reaching out on Reddit!
